Agile All-Photonic Networks (AAPN)

Profs. Gregor v. Bochmann, Trevor Hall, Oliver Yang This is an NSERC Research Network (5 universities and 5 companies) funded over 5 years Theme-1: Network architecture
Coordinator: Gregor v. Bochmann

Objective: Share the large (10Gbps) bandwidth of an optical wavelength among many flows based on timesharing and very fast photonic switching (without o-e-o conversion in the switches) Typical network parameters:
Overlaid star architecture 1000 edge nodes connected to one or more photonic core switches Switching speed of 1 micro-second for time sharing Scalable system architecture by using different number of wavelengths and concentrators for sharing a core port among several edge nodes

AAPN: Research problems

Bandwidth allocation for the flows among the edge nodes (performed at each core) Fault recovery in case of link or node failure Routing of Internet traffic (IP and MPLS) over an AAPN Integration of fast switching AAPN with ROADM networks (slow switching; tens of milliseconds) and static DWDM networks

User Controlled Lightpaths (UCLP)

Prof. Gregor v. Bochmann in collaboration with CRC, i2Cat (Barcelona) and Inocybe (Montreal) This was a project largely funded by Canarie with the objective to develop a control platform for network and end-system resources that can be used by the end-user and which can control network devices from different manufacturers. It is based on Web Services. The UCLP-V2 system is now being used by Canarie and other organizations in different countries. Further research issues are: Extensions for the support of various switch and network control protocols, including GMPLS Support of lightpath multicasting Inter-domain routing Integration with Grid computing

User-Controlled Lightpath Provisioning Version 2 (UCLPv2)

Prof. H.T. Mouftah in collaboration with Prof. O. Cherkaoui (UQAM) Objective: To provide a software that enables users to create and manage APN (Articulated Private Network) through interaction with the advertised resources of CA*net 4 and similar optical networks. Users interact with the system using a GUI, and web service interfaces. UQAM-UO UCLP-V2 system is now being used by Canarie and other organizations in different countries. Further Research: - Survivability - Multicasting - Multi-domain setting

Limited-Perimeter Vector Matching (LVM) Fault Localization Protocol

To narrow down the associated time and space complexities, the protocol restricts the fault localization area to a small area called limitedperimeter. Patent Pending. NSERC I2I for commercialization. OCE Market Readiness application. LVM protocol deployment on our ONRL testbed.
