Developed in the 1960s, by French and British engineers. Runs on four very advanced and powerful jet engines. Able to reach supersonic speeds. Uses REHEAT technology. The most tested Aircraft.

Timeline
1959, Supersonic airline research begins in Europe. 2nd March 1967, The first prototype, Concorde 001, rolled out from Toulouse, France. 9th April 1967, The first flight of Concorde 002 from Bristol, UK to its test centre at Fairford 1st October 1967, 1st super sonic flight. 1973, First flight to the US. 1976, First commercial supersonic flight from London to Bahrain. 1977, First London-New York commercial flight. 1986, First Round the world trip. 2003, Last commercial flight from New York to London.

Operational Issues:
Visible problems and failure of upper rudder. First failure occurred in April 1989 when BAS G-BOAF(216) lost part of its rudder while flying between Auckland and Sydney

In 1994 hairline cracks were found in the aft wing spar webbing of BAs Concorde's. Nonstructural nature which had to be overcome was that of fitting traffic alert and collision avoidance system

the crash was caused by a titanium strip that fell from a Continental Airlines DC-10 that had taken off minutes earlier Crashed in 60 sec after take off suffering type blow out that cause fuel tank to rupture. Caused sequence of fire eventually led to engines failing and air craft crashing.

REASONS OF RETIREMENT
Made untidy operating profit for the airlines. No hopes for airline being able to fund this investment of premium first class market demand. Airline decided to write of the investment of aircraft of around 100 M rather than risk having to write off sums that could top 200M in upcoming years Emission of Nitrous dioxide Fuel constraints
