Macduff Primary School

Christmas in Scotland
Christmas in Scotland is a very exciting time for the
children. We decorate trees at home and at school.
We send cards to each other with our classroom post
box. We have a theatre company come to the school
and perform for us. This year the pantomime is
Cinderella.
We have used our own stories to tell you how we
celebrate Christmas with our families and friends. In
Scotland we traditionally celebrate Hogmanay more
than Christmas. At Hogmanay people go to other
peoples houses with their kids to have a party. Some
people put off fireworks at 12.O’clock . Lots of
people invite their kids friends Written
round to celebrate

The Nativity
At Macduff Primary School we have a
nativity play every year. All the primary
classes from P1, P2 and P3 have a part in
the performance.
First we show it to the P4 to P7 classes and
their teachers. Then we do two
performances for our Mums and Dads,
Grannies and Grandpa's.
The Nativity tells us about the birth of
Jesus.
Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem to pay
their taxes. There was no room at the inn so
Mary’s baby was born in the stable. The
shepherds came to see the son of God. Then
the three wise men came and brought
presents to the baby.
We have a P2 choir who sing lots of songs
during the performance. They are dressed
Christmas at School
At Christmas we have a party at Macduff Primary School.
At the party we do a dance called The Grand March. A girl
picks a boy partner and we march around the room to a
Scottish marching tune played on the bagpipes.

After that we do musical arms and we win prizes. The boys

have to skip round a long line of girls then find an arm
sticking out when the music stops.
For our party food we have sandwiches, biscuits, drinks,
crisps, sweets and ice-cream. We pull crackers when we
have our party food. We all get a hat and we wear it. It is a
lot of fun because we play fun games.
After the food we have a disco and we can win prizes for
the best dancer.

Then Santa comes and gives us a present.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
Christmas lights in Macduff.
The Christmas lights in Macduff are
bright and colourful. Each light has a
different picture on it. There is
Rudolph, Santa, Santa’s sleigh,
reindeer, stars, Christmas trees,
angels and baubles. The lights
decorate the roads, streets and
lampposts. Macduff School are
getting their own Rudolph light to put
up on the school. The Macduff church
has two lights they are a Jesus cross
and a star.
Macduff Christmas Light
This is our own Christmas light. Last year P5 did an
enterprise to create the light. The Christmas Light
Association gave P5 the funding for the light. P5 held a
competition to design a light. There was a lot of entries
so P5 decided to hold an election, for the whole school,
to find out which light design was the most popular.
We all got to vote for our favourite design. The choices
were snowman, Santa, a Christmas tree and Rudolph
the red nose reindeer. This was the winner. Written by

Christmas Eve
• On Christmas eve I put decorations round
my house with my sister. I put my tree up
then I put the decorations onto it. I write a
card to Santa to say here are some biscuits
and carrots for yourself and the reindeer. I
put out the milk and water for Santa and
the reindeer. Then me, my sister and my
brother cut up carrots for the reindeer and
put them into the little boxes. Then we help
each other to put up the mistletoe and my
mum and dad kiss. Then my dad helps me
put the angel onto the top of the tree.
