An Invitation from God

Isaiah 55:1-13

The Invitation of God?


What is it? Why come or respond to it? What to seek from it? What is the result if we do? What is its purpose?

1. The Invitation: (v.1a)

The Universal Invitation to the Grace of God!


Isa.55:1a - Come, all you [everyone] who are thirsty, come to the waters

Jesus is the GRACE OF GOD!


John 7:37b - If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. John 4:14 but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

2. Why come to the Invitation of God? (v.1b-5)

Because of what God Graciously Offers to us!


Water (v.1a) refers to the Holy Spirit [Jn.7:37-39] Wine (v.1b) refers also to the HS [Eph.5:18] Milk (v.1b) refers to the Living Word of God [1 Pet.2:2,3] Bread (v.2a) refers to Jesus himself [Jn.6:32-35]

JESUS: The Grace of God!


John 6:27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.

3. What to seek from God? (v.6-11)

The URGENT of all Urgents !


Now is the time to be saved! [2 Cor.6:2] And tomorrow may be too late! [Heb.9:27]

Isaiah 55:6
Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.

Seeking God involves two things:


Let the wicked (1) forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him (2) turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. [v.7]

SEEK GOD!
His Thoughts, His Ways,

His Word!

A. Seek His Thoughts [v.8a,9b]


Phil.4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praise-worthy think about such things.

B. Seek His Ways [v.8b,9a]


Ps.25:4,5 Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

C. Seek His Word [v.11a]


Ps.119:105 Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. John 15:7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will given to you.

4. What do we get if we respond to Gods invitation (v.12-13a)

1. A Life of JOY! [v.12a]


1 Pet.1:8,9 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

2. A life of PEACE! [v.12b]


Isa.54:10 Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

5. The Purpose of Gods Invitation!


(v.13b)

Remember this: To God be the Glory!


Jer.33:9 Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.

Conclusion:

Come to Gods greatest invitation!

Seek Gods Grace that can save your soul!

Only Jesus can give us true joy and peace!
