Upon completion of those endeavors, he remained at USC to act as a Staff Physician for a year, and next relocated to New York, where he accepted the role of Research Associate in hematology at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons' Department of Pathology. Dr. Robert D. Stebbins then served as Assistant Attending Physician at New York’s Harlem Hospital Center for two years before completing a fellowship in hematology at the New York University School of Medicine. Remaining there after his fellowship, he served as an Instructor in Medicine while also acting as Visiting Physician and Consulting Hematologist at Goldwater Memorial Hospital, also in New York. In 1976, he completed another fellowship, this time in oncology, at the Yale University School of Medicine. He then functioned as both Assistant Attending Physician at Genesee Hospital in Rochester, New York, and Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.
When Robert Dean Stebbins, MD, opened his practice, he concentrated on treating individuals with breast cancer and leukemia, and he also offered treatment in the areas of internal medicine and hematology. During his 20 years of practice, he additionally served the Stanford University School of Medicine in several different roles. He acted as Clinical Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine, Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, and Clinical Professor of Medicine.
Over the course of his career, Robert D. Stebbins, MD, has served on myriad academic and professional boards at Stanford University. He also functioned as founding President and Chairman of the Board for the Private Physicians Group at Stanford, Inc., and Deputy Chief of Medical Service for Stanford University Hospital from 1984 to 1986.
Dr. Robert Dean Stebbins has also managed to make time to author a number of articles, which have appeared in industry publications such as the Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Science, and the Journal of Biological Chemistry. At present, Dr. Stebbins serves as a Medical Research Consultant for the Baltimore, Maryland-based Therataxis, LLC.
