Effect Of Climate Change On Agriculture
As average global temperatures begin to rise due to human activity, scientists say the drastic effects of climate change continue to take effect all over the world. One of the most severely affected sectors is the field of agriculture. In the past decades, extreme weather conditions caused by climate change have disrupted global food production. "The food system is already stressed in many ways," said Professor Navin Ramankutty of the University of British Columbia, an expert on global food security and sustainability. With the adverse effects of climate change, Ramankutty said the phenomenon is becoming an additional stressor to global food production. Ramankutty is the senior author of a new study featured in the journal Nature, which examined the link between weather-related disasters and food production. Along with a team of researchers from UBC and McGill University, Ramankutty found that extreme heat waves and droughts have reduced global cereal harvests such as maize, wheat and rice by 10 percent in a span of 50 years. The impact persists even in areas where farming is technologically advanced, researchers said. In the study, the team looked into the "fertilizing effect" in which high levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere could have visible effects on crops, an effect that could outweigh the damage caused by droughts and heat waves. Ramankutty and his colleagues analyzed records that contained national food production of 16 different cereal crops in 177 countries, and compared the effects of 2,800 weather disasters that occurred from 1964 to 2007. After evaluating their data, the team created a detailed snapshot of how extreme weather conditions affected global cereal harvests. In North America, Europe and Australia, droughts and heat waves had both caused an average reduction in cereal harvests by about 20 percent. They also found that the average reduction in cereal harvests caused by droughts and heat waves increased from 6.7 percent in the mid-1980s to 13.7 during more recent years.

Dear Ms. Dragan,
I am sending you this letter as a response to your sales manager job ad, posted by your pesticide company on Plants health magazine. At present time, I am a 2 year student at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine and because of my really interest in this field, Phytosanitary protection, I think I am a suitable candidate for an internship in your company. Throughout my education, I participated in several projects, as a soil survey research project on the farmlands around Braila, which allowed me to achieve theoretical knowledge in this area, as you can see in the resume I have attached. Furthermore, I did volunteer work in the university in the spring holidays. I also had several full-time jobs in the summer at S.C Agricost S.R.L, where I collaborated with leading engineers from the area. Therefore, I had the opportunity to improve teamwork and communication skills. I also consider my ability to work on deadlines and taking on responsibilities as great career achievements. As a member of your team, I am convinced I would be able to face all responsibilities at the requested standards. I have excellent communication skills, Im easily adaptable and I consider new tasks as real challenges. Along my life and career, I have proved to be a really good team player, but I can also manage individual tasks very well. I hope this letter to be reason enough to further analyze my resume and Im looking forward to an interview, at whatever time it is suitable for you. For more information, please contact me at 0756254836 or by e-mail hoisansabin@gmail.ro Thank you for your time, Sincerly, Hoisan Sabin
Why I chose to become an agronomist?
Finishing school is the beginning of the independent life for millions of school leavers. Many roads are open to them: technical schools, institutes and universities. But it is not an easy thing to choose a profession out of more than 2000 existing professions in the world. Some pupils follow the advice of their parents, others can't decide even after leaving school. Choosing the kind of career to follow is probably one of the most important decisions you will ever make. Before you make this decision you will have to do a lot of thinking about who you are, about the things you like to do and the things you do well. It is an advantage to choose a future career while at school. It gives a goal to work towards and enables to choose a right, suitable course of study. When deciding your future you must be realistic about your interests and abilities. Some people have different goals than others. Some have career goals or some have ordinary job goals and others have school or academic goals. Picking a career is not as easy as it seems. To some people, picking a job based on money or a salary is very important. To others, being happy with a job is more important than money but it is not that easy to just jump in to a field of study and not be happy with it. I plan to pick my career based on my personality and on what I really want to get out of a career. Science and especially more towards agronomy has been my area of interest since my early years and I have always from that time loved to do experiments and observe changes in this area. It is also one of the main reasons as to why I took up science during my high school and decided to apply for the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine. Since I was a child my father showed me the secrets of agriculture and due to the dedication that always seems to pick off as his work, Dad made me to want to do the same thing with as much dedication. For me, this job is not just as a decent living, is much more than that. For me, to become an agronomist is a dream that I hope will come true soon. I can not wait to focus all my attention to the crops, to devote myself in it for getting the best productions. It seems to be a very interesting feeling and this is the main reason why I chose to become an agricultural engineer. Furthermore, agronomists have varied duties that require them to think critically to solve problems. First and foremost, agronomists experiment and plan studies to improve crop yields. They study a farm's crop production in order to discern the best ways to plant, harvest, and cultivate the plants, regardless of the climate. It is also important for agronomists to develop methods to control weeds and pests to keep crops disease-free. All this duties are fascinating and a good reason for wanting to promote successfully the University on the Agriculture Department. All in all, for all these reasons and more, I want to become an engineer, but not just any agronomist, but a successful one among the most successful worldwide.
