Ce sunt sașii?
Saşii sunt o populaţie de origine germană, colonizată de către regii
unguri în Transilvania. Se crede că locul de origine al saşilor ar fi
fost Flandra sau un ţinut din apropierea Mării Nordului, în timp ce
alţii au venit din regiunea Rinului de mijloc sau din Luxemburg.
⦁ Comunitatea sașă este, la origine, vorbitoare de limbă
germană,aceștia fiind stabiliți în sudul și în nord-
estul Transilvaniei începând cu mijlocul secolului al XII-
lea.

⦁ Deşi vorbesc aceeaşi limbă, nu de puţine ori ardelenii nu

reuşesc să se facă înţeleşi nici în sudul ţării şi nici în
Moldova. Cuvinte precum „bolund”, „găluşte” sau „jinars”
ridică sprâncenele oltenilor şi moldovenilor deopotrivă.

Dialectul săsesc este idiomul vorbit de
coloniștii germani care au populat
teritoriile Pământului crăiesc începând
din secolul al XII-lea și până în secolul al
XIV-lea. Acest dialect, care a fost folosit
până în secolul al XX-lea în aproximativ 240
de localități întemeiate de sași, își are
originea de bază în graiurile francone de pe
cursul mijlociu al Rinului la care s-au adăugat
pe parcursul procesului de colonizare
elemente din Germania centrală, de est și
de sud.
