NOIUNI INTRODUCTIVE

Reguli de folosire a ghidului Acest ghid se adreseaz n principal lucrtorului Ministerului Administraiei i Internelor, dar nu numai. Ghidul a fost conceput att pentru cei care au puine cunotine de limba englez ct i pentru cei care au un anumit nivel de pregtire n acest domeniu, mai ales pentru vocabularul de specialitate. Lucrarea este structurat pe capitole pentru o delimitare mai uoar. Alfabet, pronunie, ortografie Alfabetul englez se compune din 26 de litere: cinci vocale: a, e, i, o, u dou semivocale: w, y 5

nousprezece consoane: b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, x, z

Literele alfabetului luate n parte, se pronun astfel: A [ ei] B [bi:] C [si:] D [di:] E [i:] F [ef] G [di] H [eit ] I [ai] J [dei] K [kei] L [el] M [em] N [en] O [u] P [pi:] Q [kju] R [a:] S [es] T [ti:] U [iu] V [vi:] W [dblju] X [eks] Y [wai] Z [zed]

Pronunarea cuvintelor este puin mai dificil n limba englez dect n celelalte limbi strine. Consoanele se pronun aproape toate la fel ca n limba romn. Vocalele se pronun uneori diferit. Nu vom aminti prea multe despre fonetica limbii engleze, deoarece nu am dat i transcrierea fonetic a expresiilor amintite n aceast lucrare. n limba englez nu exist reguli stricte de ortografie. Sunetul nu corespunde ntotdeauna literei, de aceea ne ajutm de transcrieri fonetice unde ne folosim de diferite simboluri cum ar fi: , , , , , , etc. Vocalele pot fi nchise sau deschise, scurte sau lungi: a:, ; i, i: etc. Accentul are un rol important. La cuvintele formate din dou sau trei silabe, una dintre silabe este accentuat. Unele cuvinte plurisilabice au dou accente. Accentul este important deoarece n cuvintele compuse sau derivate el poate duce la schimbarea ntregii pronunii. La schimbarea valorii gramaticale cuvintele i pot schimba ortografia i pronunia: Invent[in`vent]-------inventory[`invntri

Tocmai datorit faptului c n limba englez pronunia prezint un grad de dificultate mai mare, dicionarul este un instrument de lucru foarte util i nu trebuie s lipseasc nici unui nceptor care dorete s nvee aceast limb strin.
