GENITIVUL
PRONUMELE I ADJECTIVELE DEMONSTRATIVE "THAT" i "THOSE"
NUMERALELE CARDINALE
NUMERALELE ADVERBIALE
1. Genitivul:
- n limba englez contemporan deosebim dou feluri de genitive:
a. Genitivul in 'S (The Possessive Case, numit uneori i Saxon Genitive) sau genitivul sintetic,
care se formeaz cu ajutorul apostrofului plus S ('S), adugat substantivului care l indic pe
posesor, atunci cnd substantivul este la singular, i al apostrofului fr S, atunci cnd
substantivul posesor este la plural (n cazul substantivelor cu pluralul regulat):
the student's teacher = profesorul studentului
the students' teacher = profesorul studentilor
ns: the children's desks = bncile copiilor.
- genitivul n 'S este folosit aproape exclusiv cu substantive care desemneaz persoane sau
uneori cu substantive nume de animale:
John's hair is brown.
The pupil's book is on the table.
The dog's name is Wings.
b. Genitivul prepozitional (The Prepositional Genitive) sau genitivul analitic, care poate fi folosit
att pentru fiine, ct i pentru lucruri:
The walls of the room are white.
The chair of the teacher is brown.
2. Pronumele i adjectivele demonstrative "THAT" i "THOSE":
- pronumele demonstrativ THAT desemneaz un obiect mai ndeprtat n spaiu sau n timp.
- el are aceeai form pentru toate genurile i se traduce prin: ACELA, ACEEA, ACEL, ACEA, n
functie de genul substantivului romnesc pe care l determin:
That is a student (Acela /aceea/ este student/a)
- THAT poate fi att pronume, ct i adjectiv demonstrativ:
That boy is a pupil (adjectiv) - Acel baiat este elev.
That is a wall (pronume) - Acela este un perete.
- pluralul lui THAT este THOSE i se traduce prin ACEIA, ACELEA, ACEI, ACELE:
Those girls are pupils - Acele fete sunt eleve)
Those are good pupils - Aceia /acelea/ sunt elevi /eleve/ buni /bune)

a. Numeralele cardinale reprezentnd numerele ntre 13 i 19 se termin n sufixul - TEEN:

13 thirteen; 14 fourteen; 15 fifteen; 16 sixteen; 17 seventeen; 18 eighteen; 19 nineteen;
b. Numeralele cardinale reprezentnd zecile ntre 20 i 90 se termin n sufixul - TY:
0 thirty; 40 fourty; 50 fifty;
c. ntre zeci i uniti se pun liniue de unire:
68 sixty-eight; 23 twenty-three;
d. Dup sute, cnd acestea sunt urmate de zeci sau uniti, se pune conjunctia AND:
105 one hundred and five; 738 seven hundred and thirty-eight; 217 two hundred and seventeen;
e. Numeralele HUNDRED, THOUSAND i MILLION nu primesc terminaia - S cnd sunt precedate
de alte numerale:
300 three hundred; 5,000 five thousand (fifty hundred); 2,000,000 two million;
- aceste numerale (inclusiv TEN), cnd sunt folosite nedeterminat devin substantive i primesc
terminatia -S:
Thousands and thousands of young people practise sports (Mii si mii de tineri fac sport)
There are hundreds of old trees in the park (Sunt sute de copaci batrani in parc.)
f. Grupele de trei cifre reprezentand sute, mii, milioane etc. se despart prin virgula:
6,000 six thousand; 1,000,000 one million
- n schimb, zecimalele se despart prin punct:
1.5 one point five ; 8.56 eight point fifty-six sau eight point five six ; 0.4 (.4) point four
g. Numeralul A (ONE) BILLION are sensul de un trilion n Anglia i un miliard n S.U.A.
h. Anii se citesc n grupe de dou cifre:
1968 nineteen sixty-eight sau nineteen hundred and sixty-eight
i. Numerele de telefon se citesc pronunndu-se fiecare cifr:
163809 one-six-three-eight-o(ou)-nine
j. Numeralul cardinal se folosete cnd se indic numrul unei case, al unui tramvai, al leciei
etc. i el urmeaz substantivului respectiv:
no.12 - number twelve; tram 5 - tram five; lesson 2 - lesson two
4. Numeralele adverbiale:
once = o dat;
twice = de doua ori;

three times = de trei ori;

four times = de patru ori .a.m.d.
- cele patru operaii aritmetice de baz se numesc:
addition = adunare;
subtraction = scdere;
multiplication = nmulire;
division = mprire;
