CETATEA BRILEI

Cetatea Brilei a fost o realitate istoric de la jumtatea veacului al XVIlea pn la 1829.

A evoluat ca toate celelalte fortificaii de pe linia Dunrii de Jos sub
ochiul atent al turcilor adaptnd-o poate greoi progreselor militare mai
ales celor ale artileriei dar i sub presiunea naintrii ruseti spre sudestul Europei.
A trecut de multe ori n minile cretinilor, dar a revenit mereu n
stpnirea Porii chiar i atunci cnd, n 1812, nimic nu mai sugera un astfel
de deznodmnt.
Distrugerea ei a fost hotrt de rui nc din timpul luptelor din
1828, apoi deznodmntul s-a produs lsnd astzi doar urme de multe
ori greu de gsit i de explicat dar care merit efortul nostru de a le
cunoate i a le valorifica.

THE CITADEL OF BRILA

The citadel of Brila was a historical reality from the first half of
the sixteenth century until 1829.
It evolved, as the other fortifications along the course of the
Lower Danube, under the careful scrutiny of the Turks adapting
perhaps difficultly to the military development especially of the
artillery but also under the pressure of the Russian advance towards
South-Eastern Europe.
It was many times in Christian hands, but it always returned
under the control of the Porte even when, in 1812, nothing suggested
such a fate.
Its demolition was decided by the Russians from the very
period of the battle of 1828, than its fate was produced leaving today
only trails often difficult to be discovered and explained but which
deserve to be known and to be valued.
