Welcome and Greetings!

Greeting is an act of communication in which human beings intentionally make their presence
known to each other, to show attention to, and to suggest a type of relationship (usually
cordial) or social status (formal or informal) between individuals or groups of people.
{Salutul este un act de comunicare în care fiinţele umane îşi fac intenţionat prezenţa
cunoscută, pentru a arăta atenţie şi pentru a sugera un tip de relaţie (de obicei cordială) sau
statut social (formal-mediu de afacerii sau informal-amici, familie) între persoane sau grupuri
de persoane.}

A greeting can be formal or informal and can be used everyday or can become a special
greeting. {Un salut poate fi formal sau informal și poate fi folosit zi de zi sau poate deveni un
salut specific/o urare}.

Everyday Greetings
Hi/Hello! = Bună/Salut! (la telefon, se folosește Hello ca un echivalent de Alo!)
Good morning! =Bună dimineața!
Good afternoon! = Bună ziua!
Good evening! = Bună seara!
Good night! = Noapte bună!
Goodbye! = La revedere!
Bye! = Pa!

P.S. We usually use in a formal conversation “Good evening!” instead of “Good night!” Or
“Bye!”, because it’s more polite. For example, we say “Good night!” when we say “Goodbye”
to a friend or when we go to bed. Also, when we meet someone after around 5 o’clock in the
afternoon we say “Good evening!”.{ De obicei, în conversații formale folosim “Good evening!”
în loc de “Good night!” sau “Bye!”, deoarece este mult mai politicos. De exemplu, noi spunem
“Good night!” când spunem “Goodbye” unui prieten sau când ne ducem la culcare. De
asemenea, când întalnim pe cineva după ora 5 după-amiază , spunem “Good evening!”} .

Nice to meet you, too! = De asemenea/ Și eu sunt încântată!
Good/Nice to see you again! = Mă bucur să te văd din nou!
I’m glad/happy/pleased to see you! = Mă bucur să te văd din nou!
Welcome! = Bun venit!

Happy New Year! = La mulți ani! {urare de Anul Nou}
Happy Birthday! = La mulți ani! {urare pentru zi de naștere/onomastică}
Happy Christmas! = Crăciun fericit!
Merry Christmas! = Crăciun fericit!
Happy Easter! = Paște fericit!
Good Luck! = Mult noroc!
Congratulations! = Felicitări!
Well done! = Foarte bine!
Get well soon! = Să îți revii! / Să te faci bine! {Când cineva e bolnav și îl încurajam pentru a se
însănatoși}.
