„Luceafărul” (a fragment)
fragment
A fost odată ca-n poveşti, Blessed into life upon a time
A fost ca niciodată, In old, royal bowers
Din rude mari împărăteşti, A maiden of an Eastern clime
O prea frumoasă fată. Grew vying with the flowers.
Privea în zare cum pe mări She sees him rise above the sea,
Răsare şi străluce, Gleaming in his heaven’s hearth,
Pe mişcătoarele cărări Steering black ships to ports of lee
Corăbii negre duce. On many a trembling path.
Îl vede azi, îl vede mâni, One night, a second and the third
Astfel dorinţa-i gata; Spires up her longing sigh;
El iar, privind de săptămâni, And weeks go by till he has heard
Îi cade dragă fata. And fondly cherished on high.
Cum ea pe coate-şi răzima She cups her chin into her hands
Visând ale ei tâmple And dreams of him night whole -
De dorul lui şi inima For he who firmament ascends
Şi sufletu-i se împle. Caught prison in her soul.
2 Şi când în pat se-ntinde drept And ere she stretches on her bed
Copila să se culce, They comb her golden hair.
Speech and Context, 2(III)2011
I-atinge mâinile pe piept, And when to rest she lays her head -
I-nchide geana dulce; Veil her lids with sweetest care.
Şi din oglindă luminiş And when in sleep she turns her face
Pe trupu-i se revarsă, He resplends the mirror frame.
Pe ochii mari, bătând închişi Oblivious of his realm and race,
Pe faţa ei întoarsă. Cradles her in fervid flame.
