Why Education? Why Research?


In our culture today, there is a huge emphasis on education,
especially on higher education. Society basically says the more
educated you are, the better off you are. That is pretty much true if
you live by the means of society. The basic idea that education,
especially a college education, is something that people should
pursue even into their adult years is not by any means a new idea.
Education, if looked at beyond its conventional boundaries,
forms the very essence of all our actions. What we do is what we
know and have learned, either through instructions or through
observation and assimilation. When we are not making an effort to
learn, our mind is always processing new information or trying to
analyze the similarities as well as the tiny nuances within the
context which makes the topic stand out or seem different. If that is
the case then the mind definitely holds the potential to learn more,
however, it is us who hinder ourselves from expanding the
horizons of our knowledge with self-doubt or other social,
emotional, or economic constraints.
While most feel that education is a necessity, they tend to
use it as a tool for reaching a specific target or personal mark, after
which there is no further need to seek greater education.
Nonetheless, the importance of education in society is
indispensable, which is why society and knowledge cannot be ever
separated into two distinct entities.
Every society has specialized individuals who fulfill
certain positions that require extended education. In some cases,
these people are known as shamans, priests, or professors, or they
may be doctors, mechanics, blacksmiths, or artists. In all these
professions, some form of higher education is necessary. It could
come from apprenticeship or rigorous private study, or it could take
the form of a formal higher education. Whatever the form, the
meaning is the same: gain knowledge and use it.
The idea of education has been a big part of each and every
culture on earth.
Education is not just what your major is, it is also what you
learn along the way. It is about learning about life and who you are.
It is a journey, and for those of us fortunate enough to embark on
that journey we hope that we make the most of it.

Why Education? Possible answers:


Education gives people critical skills and tools to help
them better provide for themselves and their children;
- Education helps people work better and can create
opportunities for sustainable and viable economic growth
now and into the future;
- Education encourages transparency, good governance,
stability and helps fight against graft and corruption.
The impact of investing in education is profound:
education results in raising income, improving health, promoting
gender equality, mitigating climate change, and reducing poverty.
The most basic thing to know about the importance of
education is to research its benefits or how it will brighten up your
life. If you like numbers, then maybe search up statistics of how
many people have changed when they were more knowing about
the world.

This volume of Conference Proceedings Education


research : contemporary issues and practical approaches was
initiated by the Centre of Research, Resources and European
Studies, European Association for Promoting Excellence in
Education and Research, the Department of Research, University
of Wales Romania and the management of Avram Iancu Secondary
School in a joint effort to share the results of the scientific research
undergone by their members within the research project Promoting
the Society of Knowledge through Education and Interdisciplinary
Research (RO/2013/ PSKEIR-02), and to contribute to the existing
interdisciplinary research in the field.
The present volume is a collective volume, which, in
addition to the research articles mentioned above, contains selected
papers from the contributions delivered at the International
Conference AIECI2014, held in Oradea (at Avram Iancu
Secondary School) in November, 2014.

The coordinators of the present volume would like to thank
the contributors and all those who facilitated networking within the
members of the project, including Associate Prof. Viorica
BANCIU PhD from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences,
Department of Educational Sciences, University of Oradea, our
colleagues from the University of Wales Romania: Assoc. Prof.
Diana ROIORU (Rector) and Assist. Prof. Mihail TEAC.
Also, we would like to thank Prof. Alin IUHA NOVAC
from the School Inspectorate of Bihor County (ISJ Bihor) and Prof.
