Citirea vocalelor n poziie accentuat

Aici este bine de tiut cte tipuri de silabe sunt n limba englez. n dependen de tipul
silabei, una i aceeai liter va reda sunete vocale diferite. n limba englez sunt patru
tipuri de silabe.

(1) Primul tip de silab este silaba deschis, adic silaba care se termin ntr-
o vocal. Totui, silaba deschis poate fi de dou feluri n limba englez:
silab absolut deschis, unde forma grafic coincide cu cea fonetic (e.g. me, no, etc.);
silaba parial deschis, aceast silab este doar grafic deschis i fonetic nchis (e.g.
note, Pete, bite, bone, time, tune, ape, ect.). Sunetul din acest tip de silab va coincide cu
sunetul literei respective din alfabet (e.g. a /ei/, e /i:/, etc.).
!!! Dup sunetele /r/, /l/, /d/, litera u se citete ca /u:/, e.g. rule, flute, June. !!!

(2) Al doilea tip de silab este silab nchis, adic silaba care se termin ntr-o
consoan sau mai multe consoane (cu excepia literei r) (e.g. send, rap, kept, pin, ect.).
Sunetul din acest tip de silab va fi unul scurt.

(3) Al treilea tip se consider silaba n care dup vocala accentuat urmeaz litera
r /a:/. n cazul dat litera r nu se citete, ea doar indic lungimea vocalei precedente
(e.g. bar /ba:/, car /ka:/, etc).
!!! n cazul n care consoana r este dublat, atunci sunetul din silaba dat se citete n
conformitate cu tipul al doilea de silab (silab nchis) (e.g. sorry, merry, etc.). !!!

(4) Al patrulea tip de silab se aseamn grafic cu tipul de silab parial deschis,
dar c n cazul dat ntre vocala accentuat i e mut se afl consoana r, e.g. hare, bare,
bore, pure, etc.
!!! n cazul n care dup vocala accentuat tr-un cuvnt bisilabic st consoana r,
aceast vocal se va citi conform tipului al patrulea de silab (e.g. Mary, during,
etc.). !!!

bine de avut ntotdeauna un dicionar la ndemn :) !!!

Introduction

Vowel sounds present a considerable challenge to non-native speakers. Spoken

English has an unusually high number of vowel sounds - from 5 written vowels
(a, e, i, o, u) we produce 19 vowel sounds (see chart below).

Do you know how many vowel sounds your language has? If it has less than
English, you will need to learn the new sounds.

Types of Vowel Sound

A vowel sound is made by shaping the air as it leaves the mouth. There are four types of vowel
in English:

Short monothongs (2, 3, 4, 7, 10, 12 in the diagram)

Long monothongs (1, 6, 8, 9, 11 in the diagram)
Diphthongs (13 - 19 in the diagram)
Weak vowels (1, 2, 5 , 9 in the diagram)
