Aria de interes a invitatului, conform CV-ului:
My research broadly focuses on evolution and biodiversity, with an emphasis on angiosperm hybridization/polyploidy, conservation issues and special breeding systems. As an evolutionary biologist, I combine ecological genetics, epigenetics, genomics, molecular phylogenetics and comparative analysis to explain the origin of biodiversity and its dynamics. My main current work uses environmental transcriptomics and high throughput sequencing (RAD-seq and RNA-seq) to investigate the adaptive diffusion of a series of sibling allopolyploid Dactylorhiza species (Orchidaceae). Paun et al. 2010 (Molec Biol Evol 27: 2465), which received wide international media attention (e.g., reviewed as surprising science on blogs.smithsonianmag.com and covered by The Times and Frankfurter Allgemeine), is the first study to show that natural selection acts on epigenetic information in a similar way as on genetic loci, but could result in speciesspecific phenotypic differentiation in much shorter evolutionary times.
