A DAY IN THE LIFE SUMMARY:

The case illustrates a day in the life of Rachel,project manager of a large information system project. It describes the tasks performed by a project manager such as: Building & sustaining interpersonal relations Decision making Information gathering & dissemination Coordination of activities and handling grievance of people

The case describes how she carried out her project activities in synchronisation with other activities to be performed at work. She successfully manage to work under pressure, utilizing every single minute of her office hours, leading to an efficient & effective control over the organization & its people.

Q-1:How effectively do you think Rachel spent her day? Ans-1:In my opinion,Rachel proved to be a successful project manager undertaking the tasks assigned to her in an efficient & effective manner. She reaches early at the office with an intention to get her work completed on time. While at office,she interacts with various people ranging from lowest level to the top most level,in order to gather information and disseminate it so that proper coordination of activities can be carried out. Her activities throughout the day revealed her spontaneous and optimistic attitude,which can be ascertained from the fact that she handled the grievance of her co-worker and counterparts and made decisions in line with their responses.

Hence,she adopted a participative leadership style,which would prove to be a boon for the successful implementation & execution of the project leading to her efficient working as a project manager.

Q-2:What does the case tell you about what it is like to be a project manager? Ans-2:The case demonstrates that to be a good project manager,following functions need to be carried out: -Information gathering & dissemination: Project managers are the information hub for their projects.They are in constant communication with various stakeholders,collecting information from various sources and sending it to those who need it to know. -Decision making:Project managers consult with various people to make decisions necessary to complete the project. -Building & sustaining interpersonal relations:Project managers have to network and develop good working relations with team members & other project stakeholders.
