Throughout the Rumanian factories manufacturing cement~
bricke as well ac in other constructions being executed
under the control of the People's Boards of each town or
of the jinietr, of Construction, use is being made of the
socalled military-working units organized by the "Direc-
tiunea Generale A or Toe sor uncli - D.G.5.u" (The
ft
ieneral Direction of the “orks Services.)
These wilisary unite or detachments are composed of young-
stere perforning their military duty, but who are of "kulak"
origin or intellectuals, persons not considered reliable 4
by the present Communist regime. They wear grey-blue uniforne
and have the ease rinks as other soldicrs. Vor-ing schecule
is of eight or 10 hours per day (effective April 1752, all

heavy work not even 5,000 calories would suffice. Each unit

fully checked by the office s. Soldiers have to work almost
alwoye cear-n; their uniform. If the factory, which they
are a..igned to, doos not supply the. with overalls, it

Prior to bein; assigned to some works in factories, these |
soldiers are given ailitery trainin, but most one hour of

attend one hour of politiccl instruction. The output of
these solicers-uorsers is not too good according to what!
source affirms (who has worked tozetier with one of these
units) since they are always hungry and thus cannot and do
hot want to work.
