Sashimi is a Japanese delicacy consisting of very fresh raw meat or fish sliced into
thin pieces to be eaten immediately. The word sashimi dates from the Muromachi period
(a division of Japanese history 1137 - 1573) , and was possibly coined when the word
kiru = cut, was con- sidered inapropriate to be used by anyone other than Samurais.
Sashimi is sushi without rice.
Many Japanese people believe that sashimi is considered the finest dish in Japanese
cui- sine, should be eaten before other strong flavors affect the palate. According to
tradition of Japan is that they eat only with chopsticks and not by hand.
