THE SECRETARY HER JOB

Her Primary Area of Responsibility
Problems that She Routinely Addresses
Documentation that She Routinely Administers
I work as a secretary. My first responsibility is to assure the interface between my boss
and the employees, contractors, partners, suppliers.
I have to arrange his meetings, to select the calls and the appointments in order to
spare him of the less important problems that can be solved by somebody else.
I have to manage the mail (in or out), to prepare it, to register it, to present it to my
boss, and then, according to his resolution, to file or to give it to the person assigned by him.
One of my job is to provide unofficial translation of the documents. Fortunately, my
boss speaks English very well, but sometimes I have to translate from Romanian for the
foreign partners. Documentation that I routinely administer is:
Daily: letters, minutes, mail, faxes, listing.
Monthly: time sheet, monthly reports with the annexes, the transfer of the employees,.
As everywhere, there are good or bad points, busy or quiet days and all together give
me the great satisfaction to do what I like to do.

Speaking about Daily Program

ALEX: Paul, what do you do every morning as a general rule?

PAUL: Well, I usually wake up at seven oclock every day except Sunday, then I get
out of the bed and I go to the bathroom. I always, or nearly always, have a
shower. I shave and dress and then I have breakfast. This is generally tea,
toast and jam, bread and butter, and sometimes ham and eggs too, but really
have more than that for breakfast. Occasionally, its black coffee instead of
tea. I always leave home at 7:45 as it seldom takes me more than ten minutes to
get to the office. I am never late for work. In fact, I am often early, and I work
hard.
ALEX: How many hours do you work on weekdays?
PAUL: I work eight hours a day, thats forty eight hours a week.
ALEX: And what do you generally do in the afternoon?
PAUL: Well, I always leave the office at 4:15. I take a bus or a tram, and I get home
about 4:30. I have lunch and then I sometimes take a nap. This is hardly ever
more than for an hour. Twice a week I go to the English course at Cepeca
Consulting Center, and on Saturday nights I listen to some English records.
That is hard work you know.
ALEX: Do you often listen to English records?
PAUL: Yes, I do, very often. Its always such good practice in every-day English.
