BC-104 Guitar Anatomy
Translation of the video lesson
Hi, howre you doing? Justin here, welcome to BC-104, which is The Anatomy of the
Guitar.
Salut, ce mai facei? Sunt Justin. Bine ai venit la lecia BC-104 despre Anatomia
Chitrii.
Ive got here an electric guitar. Most guitars have kind of similar kind of features, so Im
gonna use this one for now, though if I think its something that requires an acoustic
guitar, Ill grab one of those out. So, the basic chunks of the guitar, if you like; weve
got here the Headstock, sometimes just referred to as the Head. Weve got here - the
long bit is called the Neck, and this bit here is called the Body. So youve kinda got
your Body, Neck and Head. Pretty straightforward, so what about the other things.
chitrii. Avei astfel Corpul, Gtul i Capul. Destul de simplu aa c mergem mai
departe.
The little things on the end here, that help keep you in tune, funnily enough are called
Tuners, or a Tuning Peg. Yeah, so theyre your Tuners, Tuning Pegs.
Aici avei
sistemul de chei de acordare a chitrii.
Sometimes, though this guitar doesnt have one, but youll find in here theres a little
thing that holds your strings down, usually the two thinnest strings it kinda holds
them onto the neck. If you do see one of those, thats referred to as a String Tree. But
I cant add a little photo - Ill try and find a photo of one for the website so you can see
one on the page.

OK, the bit of either bone or metal or plastic that you have right at the end of the
guitar, kind of where the Fingerboard starts (the Fingerboards the bit where you put
your fingers, funnily enough), thats called the Nut. Now thats really important that
you remember that one. This is the. . .either ends of the strings where you put your
fingers and stuff, is the Nut, at this end on the Headstock, and the other end of it is the
Bridge, which is where the strings kind of disappear into the body of the guitar. So
remember that, its really important because we use that quite often when were
teaching stuff you know, move your hand toward the Bridge or whatever, or toward
the Nut. So Nut, Bridge, very important to remember those two.
Cluul(Bridge), acolo unde corzile dispar n interiorul chitrii. inei minte deoarece
genul s ii miti mna ctre Clu sau ctre Prgu, m rog, ceva asemntor. Aa c
avem Prgu i Clu i este foarte important s le reinei.
So, the little bits of metal that weve got going over the Fingerboard are called the
Frets. Thats pretty straightforward. The shape of the piece like I said is just called
the Neck. You have Marker Dots, very likely to be either on the top of the guitar or on
the front in the third, fifth, seventh, ninth and twelfth. Youll always have a double-dot,
or some kind of different design in some other guitars, that represents the twelfth fret,
because thats exactly one octave higher than the open string. Dont worry about that
too much, as that kind of thing will come a little later.
i a doisprezecea.
trziu despre ea.
OK, so once were down onto the actual body of the guitar now, an acoustic guitar would
just have a hole in the middle which is called a Sound hole, funnily enough where the
sound comes out of. They still have a Bridge, though it looks a little different to an
electric guitar bridge, but they still have a bridge. On an electric guitar youll notice
these little things underneath the strings there, these are called Pick-Ups, and they
pick up the sound. These are little magnets and as the string wobbles around it
interrupts the magnetic field around the Pick-Up, and the Pick-Up picks up the changes
in the magnetic field and will send it off down out of the guitar to the amplifier to
amplify that signal. If you get two Pick-Ups that look like theyre next to each other,
theyre probably called Humbucking Pick-Ups, because Single-Coil Pick-Ups can
sometimes be a bit noisy, when you stick two together it stops them humming, so you
get this Humbucker. Theyre commonly found in kind of Gibson guitars in Les Pauls
and that type of thing.

You sometimes might have a little stick on here this is called the Whammy Bar,
which is if you play strings and move it towards the body of guitar or pull it away, it will
change the pitch of the strings. If youre a beginner guitar player you probably dont
want to be mucking around with that, itll just make your guitar go out of tune, so Id
leave that out of the way if I was you.
You probably have a couple of knobs if youve got an electric guitar (Wha-Hey!!). One of
them will be Volume; the other ones will be Tone. Most likely for a beginner you wanna
make sure that theyre all up all of the time. Your volume control you could back off, but
generally with the tone controls when youre starting out, its a good idea just to leave
them on full all the time until you understand what you might be doing with them.
pn cnd vei nelege cum s le folosii.
You might also find that youve got a switch. On here this is a five-way Selector Switch
on a Stratocaster; on a Les Paul you have a three-way selector thats usually up on this
part of the guitar. This selects which pick-up youre gonna use, because you notice
theres three there and they all sound a little bit different. So depending on whether you
want to use the back one, which is kind of the brightest, most treble-y kind of sound,
or the one nearest the neck, called the neck pick-up and this ones kind of got the
bassiest (more bass) and flattest sound. That would be the pick-up and that would be
the Pick-Up Selector and the reason youve got five is you can either use one pick-up, or
two pick-ups together, or just the middle pick up, or the front two pick-ups, or just the
front one thats your five. The middle position on a Les Paul type guitar will select both
pick-ups, the front and the back on a type of guitar that has two pick-ups.
Putei observa i un buton comutator aici. Pe acest Stratocaster avem un comutator cu
cinci poziii. La chitrile Les Paul are trei poziii i se gsete plasat n partea de sus.
Acesta selecteaz doza folosit deoarece putei observa c avem trei doze aici i toate
sun puin diferit.

gen.
Just trying to think what else you might have. Youve got little Strap Locks Ive got
Strap Locks on mines, I dont know what you call them Strap Buttons? I dont know
all the years Ive been playing guitar and I dont know what those little things are called.
OK I think thats about it.
