n limba englez, trecutul simplu are o singur form pentru toate persoanele, cu excepia verbului to be. Trecutul simplu al verbelor regulate se formeaz prin adugarea sufixului(terminaiei) ed la forma de infinitiv a verbului care este conjugat. n funcie de context, n limba romn, The Past Tense este fie echivalentul perfectului compus fie al imperfectului.
