WHEN DO WE USE SIMPLE PAST?
( CÂND FOLOSIM PAST SIMPLE)
1) Actions that are not connected with present.
(Acțiuni care nu au legătură cu prezentul)
The Titanic sank in 1912.=Titanicul s-a scufundat în 1912
2) Actions in the past that are chronologically ordered.
(Acțiuni trecute ordonate cronologic)
He came in, sat on the sofa and started waiting. = El a intrat, s-a așezat pe canapea și a
început să aștepte.
3) Repeated actions in the past (= used to). (Acțiuni repetate in trecut = obișnuiam să)
I took English courses when I was twelve (= I used to take English courses). Luam ore de
engleză când aveam 12 ani ( obișnuiam să iau ore…)
4) When after talking about general experience we give details (when we have to be
SPECIFIC and answer questions like WHEN? WHERE? WHY? HOW?).
( Atunci când după ce vorbin despre experiențe generale dăm detalii – când trebuie să fim
SPECIFICI si să răspundem la întrebări de genul CÂND ,UNDE, DE CE, CUM)
I’ve been to London this month. I stayed in a big hotel. I visited Trafalgar Square and
bought some souvenirs. = Am fost la Londra luna acesta. Am stat într-un hotel mare.
Am vizitat Trafalgar Square și am cumpărat suveniruri.
WHEN DO WE USE PRESENT
PERFECT?
( CÂND FOLOSIM PRESENT PERFECT)
1) When we talk about GENERAL EXPERIENCE without giving
specific information (we don’t have to know WHEN you did
something, we want to know IF you did it or not).= Când vorbim
despre EXPERIENȚA GENERALĂ fără a da informații specifice
( nu trebuie să știm CÂND ai făcut ceva, noi vrem să știm DACĂ ai
făcut sau nu

Tarantino has directed lots of blockbusters.Tarantino a regizat o mulțime


deblockbusters (BUT: Tarantino directed “Kill Bill” in 2003).DAR :
Tarantino a regizat “Kill Bill” in 2003.
I have never seen the Eiffel Tower.Nu am văzut niciodată Turnul Eiffel
(BUT: I didn’t see the Eiffel Tower when I was in France).DAR : Nu
am văzut Turnul Eiffel când am fost în Franța.
Jack has written a script.Jack a scris un scenariu (BUT: He wrote the
script last week).DAR : Jack a scris un scenariu săptămâna trecută.

2) Actions that are finished in the past but connected with
present (actions in the past affected the present – you can
see the result).-Actiuni terminate în trecut, dar care
afecteaza prezentul- poți vedea rezultatul)

3) When we want to express an unfinished period of time (that
started in the past but continues now).= Când vrem să exprimăm
o perioadă de timp neterminată( care a inceput în trecut dar
continuă și acum)

I have taken three tests this semester = am dat 3 teste în acest


semestru (this semester is not finished, it’s still going on = acest
semestru nu e terminat , încă continuă).
Helen has been to London once in her life = Helen a fost la londra
o singură dată în viața ei(her life is not finished, it’s still going
on = viața ei nu s-a sfârșit, continuă).
My grandparents have seen “Hamlet” this week = Bunicii mei au
văzut Hamlet săptămâna asta (this week is not finished, it’s still
going on = săptămâna nu s-a incheiat).
