Introducere
În această lecție vom discuta despre prepozițiile de loc și timp. În limba

engleză, un grup de prepoziții se folosește pentru a indica timpul, iar
altul pentru a indica locul. Cel mai bine se rețin prin exemple.
Ca prepoziție de loc, at se folosește pentru a indica locul unde se

întâmplă acțiunea.
Exemple:
at the football match – la meciul de fotbal
at school – la școală
at the party – la petrecere
at work – la serviciu
at university – la universitate
at the station – la stație
at Jane's (house) – la Jane
at the doctor's – la doctor
at the door – la ușă

at the desk – la masă
at the top – la vârf
at the bottom – la fund
Ca prepoziție de loc, in se folosește pentru orașe și țări.
Exemple:
in London – în Londra
in France – în Franța
Rețineți că se spune:
Exemple:
in the world – în lume
in the picture – în imagine
in the street – în stradă
Diferența dintre at și in, când indică locul, constă în faptul că in se

referă la interiorul clădirii, iar at poate însemna înăuntru, dar și în față,

în spate...
Exemple:
I'll meet you at the theatre. – Ne vedem la teatru (în teatru, în

fața sau spatele clădirii).
I'll meet you in the theatre. – Ne vedem la teatru (în interiorul

clădirii).
Când se folosește pentru a indica locul, on înseamnă pe.
Exemple:
on the chair – pe scaun
on the roof – pe acoperiș
on the floor – pe podea
on the wall – pe perete
Prepoziția to se folosește pentru a indica direcția de mișcare. Se

folosește cu un verb de mișcare.
Exemple:
go to work – a merge la serviciu

run to the office – a alerga până la birou
swim to the boat – a înota până la barca
Dacă substantivul (home) este precedat de un verb de mișcare, în față

nu se folosește prepoziția:
Exemple:
I'm tired. I'm going home. – Sunt obosit, mă duc acasă.
Did you walk home? – Ai mers pe jos până acasă?
Dcă substantivul (home) este precedat de be, stay, do something,

în față se pune at.
Exemple:
I'm staying at home this evening. – În seara această rămân

acasă.
When I am at home, I usually watch TV. – Când sunt acasă, de

obicei mă uit la televizor.
I like working at home. – Îmi place să lucrez de acasă.

Când mergem dintr-un loc în altul, folosim from...to.
Exemplu:
We travel from Timișoara to Bucharest. – Călătorim de la

Timișoara la București.
Când este vorba despre un mijloc de transport, se folosește prepoziția

by.
Exemple:
by bus – cu autobuzul
by car – cu mașina
by plane – cu avionul
Dar se spune:
on foot – pe jos
Prepoziții de timp (In-On-At)

Exemple:
in the morning
in the afternoon
in the evening
Excepție: at night, at midnight
in + luna
Exemple:
in January, in February, in March…
in + anotimp
Exemple:
in spring, in summer, in autumn, in winter

in + an, secol, perioadă istorică, Evul Mediu
Exemple:
in 2016, in the twentieth century

on + zilele din săptămână
Exemple:
on Monday, on Tuesday...
on + o anumită dată
Exemple:
on 17th May 2009, on 7th December
At
at + noaptea
Exemple:

at night, at midnight
at + o anumită perioadă din zi
Exemple:
at dawn, at noon, at 8 o’clock
at + weekend
Exemple:
at the weekend
at weekends
Notă pentru testele de avansare: Pentru a asimila materia cât mai
