PRESENT CONTINUOUS
• Prezentul Continuu (sau progresiv)  este un timp utilizat pentru a
vorbi despre situații care au loc aproximativ în momentul vorbirii.

e.g. I am cooking a cake now.

She is reading a romantic novel.
• - Aspectul continuu al prezentului se referă la acțiuni în desfășurare în
momentul vorbirii, fiind adesea însoțit de adverbe ca : NOW, AT THE
MOMENT, AT PRESENT.
• Ex. What are you doing ? ( Ce faci acum? )
• - Se poate folosi pentru a exprima acțiuni temporare, însoțit de
adverbe ca : TODAY/ THIS WEEK/ MONTH
• Ex. My wife is using the car this week, so I am takeing the bus to
work.
• - Se folosește pentru a exprima o acțiune stabilită pentru viitor, un
aranjament, o promisiune.
• Ex. What are you doing next weekend?
• !!! O serie de verbe NU SE FOLOSESC la aspectul continuu. Ele arată :
• - percepția simțurilor : to see, to hear, to smell, to taste, to feel,...;
• - percepția mintală : to understand, to remember, to forget, to know...;
• - posesiune : to have, to love, to like, to want, to wish,...;
• - acțiuni percepute ca fără durată : to drop, to slam, to slap, to smash...
• !!! Când aceste verbe sunt folosite cu alte sensuri, ele își pot schimba aspectul:
• Ex. I am seeing my lawyer tomorrow ( I have an appointment with my lawyer )
• They are having dinner with the General manager ( They are eating with the General
manager )
• - Cu adverbe ca ALWAYS, CONTINUALLY ele exprimă iritare din cauza repetării unei
atitudini/ acțiuni supărătoatre.
• Ex. He is always criticising me in front of the boss.
MOD DE FORMARE
• AFF: Subject + to be + [verb + -ing] + …
E.G. She is watching TV at the moment.
• NEG : Subject + to be + not + [verb + -ing] + …
E.G. She is not watching TV at the moment.
• INT : To be + subject + [verb + -ing] + …
E.G. Is she watching TV at the moment?

• Short forms
I'm playing. The bird's singing. We're dancing.

Excepții

Verbele cu sufixul -e: eliminăm -

e și adăugăm -ing
Infinitive Verb + -ing

• Verbele care se termină într-o consoană, care are la rândul ei o vocală
înainte; verbele cu accentul pe ultima silabă și verbele care se termină
în -l: li se dublează consoana.
