Abstract
Contemporary society shows a fundamental concern for increasing the degree of efficiency,
effectiveness, quality and performance within organizations, and organizational culture represents a
very special factor when adapting organizations to the present competitive environment. Foremost
specialists in the field consider organizational culture as a sure means of becoming successful within
organizations, while understanding and applying its essential components can lead to performance.
The concept of organizational culture is essential for the explanation of some phenomena taking place
within the organization, as for instance: interpersonal relations, forming values on the hierarchical
system, configuring the informational system, establishing fundamental attitudes towards changes
within the external and internal environment, human resources quality, and crystallization of the
image of organizations. Therefore, approaching some theoretical aspects referring to the definition,
role, functions, characteristics and directions taken by organizational culture means dealing with
important problems in this area of social and objective reality and all these aspects represent our focus
in this study.

Rezumat
n societatea contemporan preocuparea pentru creterea gradului de eficien, eficacitate, calitate i
performan a organizaiilor devine fundamental, iar cultura organizaional reprezint un factor cu
totul deosebit n adaptabilitatea organizaiilor la mediul concurenial actual. Marii specialiti n
domeniu consider cultura organizaional ca fiind o ans sigur ctre succesul organizaiilor, iar
nelegerea i aplicarea componentelor eseniale ale acesteia pot conduce organizaia ctre
performan. Conceptul de cultur organizaional este esenial pentru explicarea unor fenomene care
au loc n cadrul organizaiilor, precum: relaiile interumane, ierarhizarea valorilor, configurarea
sistemului informaional, determinarea atitudinilor fundamentale fa de schimbrile din mediul extern
i intern, calitatea resurselor umane, cristalizarea imaginii organizaiilor. De aceea, abordarea unor
aspecte teoretice referitoare la definirea, locul, rolul, funciile, caracteristicile i direciile de angajare
ale culturii organizaionale reprezint probleme importante pentru acest domeniu al realitii sociale i
obiective asupra crora ne-am concentrat atenia n acest studiu.

Mediul economic actual conine numeroi factori
care oblig organizaiile, n cele mai multe situaii,
s-i regndeasc i s i restructureze activitile
astfel nct acestea s poat rspunde ct mai bine
cerinelor i presiunilor existente. n acest sens,
specialitii n domeniu au identificat att rolul, ct
i principalele funcii ale culturii organizaionale,
care s ajute n dezvoltarea organizaiilor, dar i n
procese de schimbare organizaional.
