I believe this is Ilinca Burlan (vocal) with her father Constantin Burlan Pătatu's "taraf" from Rovinarj in Gorj
(Oltenia). If I remember correctly, she later went on to a career singing in Bucharest. Some other field
recordings of her, of similar vintage have been put out from time to time. I only have a set of out-of-print
LPs from the Romanian Institutul de Cercetări Etnologice și Dialectologice. There may be French Cds of this.
I am not Romanian, so I would welcome any corrections.

@Nessie Andrew In the 1960s and -70s nearly every college campus had an international folk dance group.
The dances were done for fun, not for "show". The visiting teachers of these groups were American
folklorists (e.g. Sunni Bloland) and expatriated Romanians. Many of us fell in love with the music and
started collecting and even playing the music. The rich folklore of Romania particularly captivated my wife
(who I met at one of these groups) and I, and in 1973, 1975, 1958 and 1980 we went to Romania to visit the
countryside. In those days Romanian LPs were of good quality and only $2.20, so I eventually bought 140 of
them, and subsequently, as many CDs. I am not at alla professional folklorist, but I do an amateur radio
show here in St. Louis on which I play music from Southeastern Europe and related stuff. We still travel to
Romania occasionally.

du", so is not "gurita" but "guritsa".

what is spunds like , the ă baisicly makes taht sound kindo. A more specific way to explain it... you know

Draga  TheRCristian85, Maria Tanase nu este 100% olteanca , este doar dupa tata. S-a nascut in Bucuresti,
in mahalaua Caramidari,unde este acum patinoarul Floreasca. Sunt de acord cu tine ca este cea mai mare

Te contrazic..... mahalaua Caramidari a fost situata in zona Palatul Copiilor strada Piscului unde se afla
biserica Caramidari (cartier Tineretului) si nu unde se ala patinoarul Floreasca. Mahalaua Caramidai facea

is not very complicat. very simple romanian language, but in my opinion is is a mix of songs, nice version
indeed. She is singing about the man that she love, ( like a monolog) she is asking where gone, and it she is
doubting that he was searching the love somewhere else. The last part is the calling of the man to see her

on the Bartok album by the band Muzsikas. They then play versions of these old songs. Fantastic album

@Google User Strangely, there's no tribe corresponding with the Romani people in India. The closest one
can see are some Banjara tribals, however because of their lighter skin and hair, they are considered to be
outside the Hindu caste system. Gypsies and Banjaras probably are a transient race between European and
Indians. Unfortunately they do not fully belong to either societies, but rather a fringe. In some parts of India
the Banjaras are a respectable lot, but in most not so much.

Maria Tanase a fost cea mai mare cantareata a intregii Romanii! Nu uita ca s-a nascut si a crescut in
Bucuresti, dintr-un tata gorjean si o mama sibianca si a cantat muzica din aproape toate zonele etnografice
