Ascultaţi textul următor:

Chris and Jane are married. They are husband and wife. John is Chris’ brother and Jane’s
brother-in-law. Mary and Tom are Chris’ and John’s parents. John is married to Kate and they
have two children, a son, Alec and a daughter, Ann. John’s children are Mary and Tom’s
grandchildren. Jane is Alec and Ann’s aunt and Chris is their uncle.
Chris and Jane have children too. Their son’s name is Mike. Their daughter’s name is Jill. Mike
is Tom and Mary’s grandson. Jill is Tom and Mary’s granddaughter. Mike and Jill are John and
Kate’s nephwes. Because John and Chris are brothers, Alec and Ann are cousins to Mike and
Jill.

Articolul nehotărât A/An (The Indefinite Article A/An )

*Articolul A se foloseşte înaintea substantivelor care încep cu o consoană.

Exemplu: a book, a family, a husband, a room.

*Articolul An se foloseşte înaintea substantivelor care încep cu o vocală (a, e, i, o, u).

Exemplu: an apple, an egg, an umbrella, an orange.
! Excepţii:
* Folosim articolul nehotărât An înaintea unui substantiv care începe cu litera "h", doar atunci
când este vorba despre un "h mut".
Exemple: an hour, an honour.

* Folosim articolul nehotărât A înaintea unui substantiv care începe cu litera "u" sau grupul de
litere "eu", doar atunci când acestea se pronunţă ca "you"
Exemple: a European, a university, a unit.

Articolul A/An se foloseşte în următoarele situaţii:

*Înaintea unui substantiv concret nedeterminat şi numărabil.
Exemple: A man entered the room.
