iubita fiica a unei mari familii franceze.

Milionarul Ed Vincent, protagonistul cartii de fata, cade fulgerat

de gloante pe cind cobora din avionul sau pe aeroportul La
Guardia din New York. Cu un minut in urma, era un prosper
om de afaceri, indragostit si bucurindu-se de viata. Acum zace
in coma, zbatindu-se sa supravietuiasca, constient, dar
incapabil sa comunice.
Detectivul Marco Camelia, insarcinat cu rezolvarea cazului, are
un singur indiciu un nume pe care Vincent il tot repeta:
Zelda Aceasta misterioasa persoana este cumva asasinul?
Aparitia Zeldei, in fapt Melba Eloise, va lamuri lucrurile: ea

All or
Nothing

Hollywood Hills private investigator Al Giraud hails from New

Orleans's wrong side of the tracks; a tough-talking dick, he's
as much a lover as a sleuth. Marla Cwitowitz is the gorgeous
30-something lawyer who's crazy about him and, after
wheedling Al to give her assistant PI status, becomes his
partner both on and off the job. They are a stereotypically
mismatched couple: Al asks high-class law professor Marla,
"What the hell d'ya see in me? An uneducated bum, an ex-cop,
a two-bit P.I.? A lovely woman like you?" But Marla adores his
street smarts, dinner conversation, and lovemaking skills, and
she's thrilled at the thought of working with her man
investigating murders. The trouble begins when a real estate
agent, California golden girl Laurie Martin, disappears. Burly

detective Lionel Bulworth and his brazen assistant Pamela

"Pow!" Powers believe Laurie's client Steve MallardAwhose job
is forcing him to relocate his Los Angeles-based family to San
DiegoAis the guilty party. None too coincidentally, Al and Marla
happened to notice Laurie and Steve together before the
alleged murder. As far as they could tell, Laurie and Steve
were not romantically involved, which does away with the
cops' theory that Steve killed Laurie in a jealous rage. Steve's
wife, the level-headed Vicki, hires Al and Marla to prove her
husband's guilt or innocence.
Retired New Orleans homicide detective Al Giraud is now a
private investigator in L.A., where law professor and ex-DA
Marla Cwitowitz falls for him and decides she wants to be a p.i.
tooAl's partner, in fact. The couple trade a ton of martinis and
Nick-and-Nora sexual badinage, but never in a Dashiell
Hammett mystery does a tanned p.i. wear an ``ankle-length
silk jersey skirt slit to the thigh, and a tiny white chiffon top
embroidered with pale green butterflies. In a La Jolla bar, Al
and Marla see Laurie Martin, a tall, unmarried, blond realtor
with good legs and a gold snake ring, pushing a Laguna Beach
seaside house on electronics executive Steve Mallard. He may
be married, but Mallard looks like a dead duck after dining with
Laurie for two weeks in a fruitless search for the right house.
When Laurie disappears and her car is found with blood on the
backseat, Steve is the prime suspect. He hires Al and Marla to
find Lauries missing body and exonerate him. Later, dogs sniff
out a body at the bottom of a canyon near where the bloody
car was found. What tie did or does Laurie Martin have to
Bonnie Victor, other than owning the same dog? Is Laurie
Martin even Laurie Martin? When Marla and Steves wife,
Vickie, are attacked with a knife in the Mallards kitchen, will
Vickie emerge from the resulting coma? The climax is a literal
cliffhangerpresumably because villains no longer tie heroines
to the railroad tracks.
Spanning the globe from Paris and London to New York and
the exotic island of Eleuthera, this is a dazzling novel of four
beautiful women torn between passion and power at the
glamorous heights of success in the fashion world.
After winning a high-school modeling contest, Jessie-Ann
Parker becomes a super-model and later the beloved wife a a
multi-millionaire. Never one to be a rich mans pampered wife,
Jessie-Ann has aspirations of her own. Four other women
who are also irresistibly drawn to the world of high fashion and
glamour join forces with her to create their own modeling
agency. But, behind the glittering faade, a psychotic killer
lurks, bent on revenge.

Fortune Is a
Woman

From
Barcelona,
with Love

Adler follows up Peach and The Rich Shall Inherit with another
glitzy roller-coaster saga. Using standard rags-to-riches
ingredients, she gives us a trio of Cinderellas who suffer and
survive their way to fortune, romance and a predictable happy
ending. Set in turn-of-the-century San Francisco and Hong
Kong, the novel tells the stories of lifelong friends Francie
Harrison and Annie Aysgarth and of Francie's daughter
Lysandra. All three are saintly women who've been hideously
mistreated by the men in their lives. Indeed, virtually every
male in this novel is either a brutal monster or a weakling.
Fortunately, the misused heroines all fall under the benevolent
influence of a mysterious Chinese mandarin, Lai Tsin; Francie,
indeed, becomes his concubine. He guides them through their
troubles and bequeaths them a legacy of worldly and
philosophical riches.
Plot hippity-hops back and forth over a century of ties between
San Francisco and Hong Kong, beginning in 1937 when
mandarin Lai Tsin--San Francisco's ``most mysterious, most
notorious, and richest man,'' and ``grandfather'' of Lysandra
Lai Tsin, who is the illegitimate daughter of Francie Harrison-dies and leaves baby Lysandra a personal fortune of $300
million (in pre-WW II dollars), plus ownership (as taipan) of Lai
Tsin Corporation, a trading company worth $900 million and
based in Hong Kong. Which is nice--taxwise--for six-year-old
Lysandra. Francesca, her mother, is named head of the
company until Lysandra turns 18. At this time, in 1937,
Francie's best friend is ex-Yorkshirewoman Annie Aysgarth,
who has risen from poverty and is now president of Aysgarth
Hotels International, a subsidiary of Lai Tsin Corp. Francie and
Annie met during the San Francisco earthquake, during which
Annie's lost brother Josh died--but not before impregnating
Francie with Oliver. In 1906, Francie and Annie brought the
poor coolie-gambler Lai Tsin great luck at poker, and he repays
by taking them into his new and vastly expanding importexport business. Later, Francie has Lysandra out of wedlock
with Buck Wingate, a three-time senator from California whose
imperially snobbish wife Maryanne thinks he should run for
president. However, Francie's horrible brother Harry, a
distraught multimillionaire caught in the Depression, has the
hots for Maryanne, who kills him when he starts to rape her,
which leads to Buck and Francie's affair being exposed and
Buck resigning his office. Then Lysandra comes of age and we
discover Lai Tsin's deepest secret, that he's actually.... Never
touches earth for a second.
From the Hollywood Hills to the streets of Barcelona, from lush
vineyards and wineries to the most exclusive homes in Europe,
let Elizabeth Adler take you on a journey with a story that will
hold you spellbound.
Bibi Fortunata was the hottest ticket in town: singer, actress,
and celebrity. Two years ago she was arrested on suspicion of
murdering her lover and his new mistress, who was also Bibis
best friend.
Bibi was front-page news in a way her publicists had never
dreamed of. But the police were never able to prove anything
and she was set free, with the cloud of suspicion and murder
still hanging over her. Bibi left for Barcelona where she quite
simply disappeared.
But when Bibis daughter comes to private investigators Mac
Reilly and Sunny Alvarez for help, they cant resist the
temptation to solve this mystery once and for all. Who really
killed Bibis lover? Who would want to frame Bibi? And who is
beckoning them from Barcelona?

The House in

In a
Heartbeat

Earl Mountjoy decides to track down his brother's illegitimate

descendants and discovers three granddaughters from very
different backgrounds. Launched into society as debutantes,
the girls become firm friends, but one has a deadly secret in
her past, and she must protect her sisters.

American Lola Laforet was swept away in a whirlwind wedding

and found herself the chef/owner of the Hotel Riviera. Her life
seemed to be a dream come true. But then her husband
disappeared one day with nothing more than a wave goodbye.
Six months later, Jack Ferrar, an American ex-pat living on his
boat, drops anchor in Lola's harbor and teaches her the true
meaning of attraction. When various shady people--all claiming
ownership of the Hotel Riviera--and the police appear, Lola and
Jack have to track down the mysterious Patrick. And along the
way, they fall in love. With great food, wonderful sensuality,
and lush scenery, Elizabeth Adler holds you under her spell and
transports you to one of the most romantic places on earth.
The secrets of her past lie in Italy
Lamour Harringtons husband died two years ago. It is the
second time she has lost a man she loved to a tragedy: her
father died in a mysterious boating accident when she was
seventeen. When a devastating discovery about her husbands
death leaves Lamour feeling stunned and betrayed, she
returns to the house on the lush Amalfi coast where she'd lived
with her father during the happiest years of her childhood.
and so does unexpected love
But the house of her memories has secrets all its own, forcing
her to face new truths about another man she once loved. Was
her fathers death truly accidental? Or was he hiding
something that caused his early demise? Torn between two
mysterious and compelling men who have now entered her
life, Lamour discovers that the past has a way of returning
when you least expect it. And someone wants to ensure that
Lamour doesnt uncover the secrets of this idyllic, dreamy
coastal getaway. As the past and the present collide in a
shattering and suspenseful climax, Lamour must face the
things she fears the most, in order to find the courage to live
life to the fullest.
Ed Vincent, a real estate tycoon with a mysterious past, has
been shot by a would-be assassin and lies comatose in a New
York hospital. His love interest, Georgia peach Melba
Merrydew, also a target, comes to grieve by Ed's bedside.
Enter Marco Camelia, a handsome homicide detective, who,
with Melba's help, investigates Ed's shadowy past, all the while
falling in lust with Melba's Southern charm and sun-kissed
legs.
Millionaire Ed Vincent is nearly killed by four bullets to the
chest. As Vincent's lover, Zelda Merrydew, helps a charming
homicide detective investigate the attempted murder, she
uncovers things about the man she loves that he'd rather she
didn't know. Adler's enjoyable characters and lively dialogue
alone wouldn't quite overcome this tired premise. But there's
one other thing that makes the novel different: Ed Vincent
himself, lying in the hospital, unable to communicate in any
way, is a principal character in the story.

Indiscretion
s

Although this story spans the world of high society from

Hollywood to Paris to London to Rome, essentially it is a moral
tale about three hard-working girls trying to make it. Named
for the cities and places where they were born, Paris, India
and Venetia are the daughters of Jenny Haven, glamorous
American film star, and have been raised according to the
Puritan work ethicleavened by a dash of haute couture. When
Jenny dies under mysterious circumstances, the daughters
hope that some of her millions will trickle down to boost their
budding businesses. But their mother has apparently died in
penury and now each daughter must create her own success,
as well as try to clear Jenny's name.
The Haven Women--born into Hollywood sin and scandal, they
inherited their mother's passion... Venetian, Paris, India-three
beautiful women, each named for the city or country in which
she'd been conceived, each driven by passionate needs
for success and love. Raised apart, their past bound by
one extraordinary woman-the legendary Jenny Haven.
She gave them life. She gave them everything they needed
to "make it.

Invitation to
Provence

Franny Marten's life is unraveling--after arranging to meet her

boyfriend Marcus for dinner she finds his wife waiting for her
instead. After the initial shock wears off, Franny finds she has
more in common with Clare Marks that she could ever have
imagined. And, amazingly, the women become fast friends. But
even more surprises are in store for Franny Marten: she is
unexpectedly offered an all-expenses-paid invitation to go to a
reunion of her estranged family in Provence. And Clare decides
to charge the trip to Marcus (for his sins) and come along.
Franny knows very little about the French side of her family,
but how stressful can meeting long-lost aunts and cousins be
after what she and Clare have just gone through?

11

It All Began
in Monte
Carlo

Provence is everything Franny pictured, but nothing at all what

she expected. There are dangerous family secrets buried deep
in the lovely, lush landscape of Provence, and someone who
will go to any lengths to keep Franny from uncovering them.
Jake Bronson is an American with ties to the Marten family,
and he seems to know more than he's saying. He's the most
intriguing and compelling man Franny's ever encountered, but
there are treacherous currents surrounding him. And at the
center of it all is the matriarch, Rafaella Marten, a woman with
secrets going back decades. Her two sons have caused her
both heartache and joy, but Franny may ultimately be the key
to truly reuniting the Marten family--and putting to rest the
shadows, scandals, and the rivalry of a dynasty. Evoking the
lush descriptions of everything that is Provence, Elizabeth
Adler casts an unforgettable spell as Invitation to Provence
transports you to a truly magical place.
Sunny Alvarez is tired of having a man who wont commit and
the urge to get away from it all is stronger than ever. In Monte
Carlo, she expects rest and relaxation; instead, she finds
herself caught in a web of intrigue involving a series of
robberies of high-end jewelry stores. Can Sunny trust the new
friends she meets in this glamorous hotel in the South of
France? Plus, theres Sunnys old friend, movie star Allie Ray,
who owns a vineyard in France and who comes to Sunnys aid,
while at the same time sorting out the life and appearance of
her old friend, Pru Hilson, with a makeover that not only
changes her dowdy, overweight appearance, but changes Pru
into an amateur detective.
If Sunny doesnt untangle this plot, she might end up an
unwitting accomplice to theft, blackmail, and even murder.

Paris, the most romantic city on earth, is a place of second
honeymoons and newly discovered passions. It lures us with a
banquet of tastes, sound, sights, and smells. And for Lara
Lewis, it is the place where she and her husband once
experienced love at its best. Now it is a place where fortysomething Lara believes she can rekindle her marriage. She
plans the most romantic adventure: to retrace her first
honeymoon with her husband, visit the same sights, eat in the
same restaurants, explore the same villages. But when her
surgeon-husband tells her at the last minutes that there's
another woman, Lara's heart is broken...almost.
Somewhere along the road of life, Lara has lost herself. but
she makes a bold move. She decides to invite a man she
hardly know to take the trip with her, a much younger man.
What follows is the story of two innocent Americans stumbling
through France in a madcap romantic adventure that begins
with missed connections, lost luggage, and language barriers,
and ends up being one woman's journey to find herself and the
love that has eluded her all her life...

In 1883, Lily Molyneux, daughter of a noble Irish family, is

raped by the scion of an equally prominent family. Pregnant
and afraid that she will be forced to marry her molester, she
names as the father the lowly stableboy Finn O'Keeffe, hoping
that she will then be allowed to remain unwed. But her plan
backfires: Lily is banished and Finn and his brother Daniel
must flee for their lives. All three find themselves on the same
boat to America. Their heady and romantic adventures unfold
against a panorama of Irish country estates, squalid Boston
slums and the New York City bustle of Broadway and Wall
Street. The author brackets this turn-of-the-century drama
with a present-day mystery: real-estate tycoon Bob Keeffe,
Finn's descendant, has died of a gunshot wound and been
ruled a suicide. His daughter, however, is sure that he was
murdered, and she reaches back into the past for clues. Spiced
with betrayal, revenge, lust and scandal, this is an intoxicating
brew, served with panache.
In a narrative that purrs like a Rolls, Adler (Fortune is a
Woman, The Property of a Lady, etc.) once again weaves and
spins her story threads so skillfully that the aged pop-dynasty
staples- -dust to diamonds, coincidental meetings, one-shot
pregnancies-- meld into the relentlessly charming surrounds.
The wildly tangled fortunes of the doughty O'Keeffe boys, Dan
and Finn, and exquisite Lily of the titled Molyneux family are
revealed--Arabian Nights-fashion--by ancient Maudie Molyneux
in the fine old family house (``Ardnavarna'') in Connemara,
Ireland. Maudie's audience is composed of two young people

dresses for dinner every evening in her 1920's-30's-style
Schiaparellis and Diors, slowly reveals the personality of the
beautiful Lily Molyneux, Maudie's late aunt. In Ireland, Lily's
hasty cruelties mean banishment for Dan, as well as for Finn,
whom she has begun to love, and her reckless pursuit of a
rotter causes a pregnancy and a never-darken-this-door-again
edict from Lord Molyneux. It's off to America then, where the
brothers eventually float upward--to the top in Boston
business and politics--and where Lily is rescued by adoring
actor Ned Sheridan, has a baby, suffers, marries twice,
produces another child--and, meanwhile, guess who lives just
around the corner? While three men deal with Lily's lure, the
Molyneux family--back in the auld country--disintegrates.
Thanks to Maudie in the present, the family trees are
espaliered for plain viewing--before she and an ancient
housekeeper travel to the States to to confront a killer. A
peppering of teasing secrets in a mix of favorite pop
gimmicks--by one of the more accomplished plotsters and
tellers of tales.

not practical, Leonie casts her lot with Gilles whom she
continues to address as "Monsieur," as if he were a rock-star

he does nobly under the covers, he also has the heart of an

Now or
Never

A serial killer is stalking young women in Boston, and the

police are at a loss for clues. The best they've come up with so
far are a composite drawing of the killer and some educated
hunches. Totally frustrated, Detective Harry Jordan turns to
Mallory Malone, the beautiful star of a prime-time investigative
TV show, in hopes of obtaining some air time from her for the
case. The arrogant Malone agrees to meet Jordan but expects
to deny his request as unworthy of her talents. What she does
not expect, once they do meet, is the electric attraction
between them. As the case unfolds and their relationship
blossoms, Malone is faced with revealing her deepest personal
secrets in order to catch the killer.

Nights

Harry Jordan is an unusual cop: the urbane scion of an oldmoney Boston family and a Harvard-educated lawyer. Faced

sparks fly, but there's something mysterious about the
beautiful Mallory. Eventually Harry pries his lover's deepest
secrets out of her and finds she may hold the clue to the
murderer's identity.
It was just one of those Malibu nights, dark as a velvet shroud,
creamy waves crashing onto the shore, breeze soft as a
kittens breath . . .

sound of a womans scream over the crashing waves, his lowkey beach-bum lifestyle is changed forever. A beautiful,

and its pointed directly at him. . . . Mac escapes her bullet,

behind an elusive murderer, and one step ahead of an actress

Peach

Two disparate story lines are skillfully braided into a solid,

entertaining, if sometimes relentlessly melodramatic, novel by
the author of Leonie. Young Peach de Courmont is visiting her
redoubtable grandmother Leonie on the French Riviera when
the Nazis invade France and requisition their elegant, familyowned hotel. Her beautiful half-sister Lais, mistress of a highranking German, secretly collects information for the
Resistance, and Peach follows suit, carrying vital messages in
her schoolbag. In America, Noel Maddox is abandoned to an
uncaring orphanage and must scramble for the necessities and
comforts that Peach takes for granted. Their paths crossonce
happily, once disastrously and, years later, romantically, when
Noel is a successful auto industry executive and Peach, who
has left a loveless marriage, runs the de Courmont auto
plants. Unusual settings and suspenseful wartime scenes give
otherwise predictable plotting a real boost.

Present of
the Past

Maudie Molyneux, a sprightly, feisty, 80-year-old, aristocratic

Irish woman lives in her crumbling stately home, Ardnavarnha,
in Connemara. Then Shannon Keeffe arrives with her wild tale
of murder and ghosts, and it is Maudie who unravels the past
for her.

22

Private
Desires

Leonie is born into a world of poverty and hardship, until her

exotic beauty and her fighting spirit lead her to a very different
life of wealth and luxuary. As mistress of the ruthless and
wealthy Duc de Courmont, she craves love, but he craves her,
needs her, is obsessed by her.

The Property
of a Lady

The magnificent Ivanoff emerald: It surfaced at Christie's at

Geneva, "The Property of a Lady"--a lady now sought by
powerful men intent on seizing a legacy that could tilt the
world balance of power . . .
The terrifying Ivanoff secret: She lived like a pauper with a
royal ransom in gems, determined to carry her secret to the
grave . . . until an act of love and a public auction
brought the world--and the curse--to her door . . .
The last of the Ivanoffs--pawns in a deadly game: The royal
gems are merely the lure to the hidden billions for which
nations are willing to kill. The last of the Ivanoffs should have
died in 1917. Now, two generations later, they are the prize-and the prey . . .
From war-torn Russia to New York's teeming Lower East Side .
. . from Ziegfeld's Broadway and the Hollywood of the moguls
to contemporary Washington, Geneva, and Berlin, Elizabeth's
Adler's novel of passion, power, and royal privilege
will command your attention to the very last page.

The Rich
Shall
Inherit

25

Sailing to
Capri

Adler's third novel ( Leonie ; Peach ), has the makings of a

run-of-the-mill sex-and-Gucci jet-set frolic that condescends
slightly to its readers (doesn't everyone know Geneva is in
Switzerland?). Yet it rises above the genre to surprise,
fascinate and eventually elicit a smile at its resolution. Mike
Preston, an investigative journalist looking for a new subject,
spots an ad in the L.A . Times seeking the heiress to the estate
of Poppy Mallory (born in Santa Barbara, died in Italy). When
he contacts the Swiss lawyer who placed the ad, advocate
Lieber tells him that Poppy's estate is worth hundreds of
millions, and agrees that if Mike finds the heiress, he can write
a book about Poppy. The novel continues on two time lines. In
the present, the various claimants, all somehow (but how?)
linked with Poppy, gradually become aware of each other.
Alternately, we learn that Poppy was seduced and abused, ran
the most exclusive brothel in Paris, fell in love with a powerful
Italian gangster, lost her son's love, died slightly gaga, very
rich and utterly alone. But all is not cliche; here are scarlet
herrings (men and women), genuine pathos, humor and
inventiveness, and the rich actually reap the whirlwind while
the riches are inherited by the meek and deserving.
Elizabeth Adler invites you on a decadent Mediterranean cruise
where nothing is what it seems, no one is telling the truth,
and murder is on the agenda
When English tycoon Sir Robert Waldo Hardwick dies
mysteriously in a car accident, he leaves behind a note naming
six people he suspects might have wanted him dead. Daisy
Kean, and P.I. Harry Montana team up to take the suspects
and also six red herringson a fabulous Mediterranean
cruise, all expenses paid by the late Sir Robert. As they call at
Monte Carlo, St. Tropez and Sorrento, the mystery deepens.
And the unexpected twists are just the beginning.
Finally, they arrive at the beautiful Villa Belkiss on Capri, where
Sir Roberts will is to be readand the killer unmasked. With
the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside, the Mediterranean
resorts and the magnificent cruise ship, plus the intense
attraction between loner Montana and wary Daisy, passions
flare and the beauty of the Villa Belkiss enchants. No one
writes delicious armchair travel or intriguing suspense like
Elizabeth Adler.

The Secret
of the Villa
Mimosa

Psychiatrist Phyl Foster is intrigued with the unconscious Jane

Doe found-having obviously been left for dead-in a San
Francisco ravine. When the woman wakes up with amnesia,
Phyl helps her try to remember her past and treats her like a
kid sister, giving her clothes and a place to stay. The
psychiatrist also runs interference for the woman, newly
named "Bea French," with macho homicide detective Franco
Mahoney, who follows every lead toward Bea's true identity,
which he hopes will help him discover who tried to kill her.
After Phyl finds Bea a job as social secretary to a rich socialite,
the amnesiac travels to Paris. When her employer dies
suddenly, she is left with a fortune, two orphans, a restored
French villa-and a 50-year-old murder mystery. Bea's
investigation into that murder triggers her memory, so she
calls Phyl for help, but the psychiatrist is busy with a jealous
new lover. Meanwhile, Franco runs a check on the lover. What
he finds sends him rushing to Paris to protect the innocent.

Sooner or
Later

Ellie Duveen, with "misty blue-gray eyes and curly red hair
worn long and flowing," lets us know that she is too busy for a
relationship as she struggles to make her California cafe a
success. Dan, an NYPD homicide detective, "dark-haired and
blue-eyed, built tall and rangy," starts a new life after taking a
medical retirement and moving to California to open a winery.
Buck Duveen, with a "fine head of copper-red hair, dark eyes
and a lean-jawed, handsome face," is a genius psychopath
obsessed with Ellie, whom he last saw more than 20 years ago
when she was a child. Guess who gets out of the insane
asylum? Guess who is the family secret? Guess who walks into
Ellie's cafe? And guess where this all leads?
Ellie Parrish Duveen was five when the brakes of her parents'
Bentley convertible failed and the car plunged off a steep
California road. Or had the brakes been tampered with? The
orphaned Ellie survived, her forehead only scarred, and she
grew up under the care of wealthy grandmother Lottie. But as
it happened, Ellie's father had a son, Buck, from an earlier
marriage. Buck was strictly psycho, and although he dressed
and comported himself like Cary Grant, he had the lousy habit
of strangling prostitutes during sex. Arrested for such
indulgences, Buck beat a jail rap and wound up in a private
New York hospital for rich sickos. After 20 years, his
grandmother's money ran short and Buck was booted out,
essentially for nonpayment. He still had a small sum in the
bank, though, which by now had accrued to $35,000 traveling
money. Set free, Buck kills another prostitute to get back in
shape and entrains to California, where he learns that Ellie has
opened a restaurant. He then begins to consider recovering his
part of the family property and fortune through murder.
Meanwhile, busy Ellie has no time for romance, but sooner or

later, of course, it must come. It does so in the form of exNYPD detective Dan Cassidy, who, after taking a bullet in
Manhattan, has retired to the West and bought a small winery
near Ellie's restaurant. They meet, and love blooms, but gets
set aside. Still, any reader will bet that, sure as night follows
day, Ellie will eventually find herself being throttled by Buck in
the Duveen family manse--with Dan, naturally, racing toward
them in the night.
Gemma Jericho is an overworked New York doctor with a
handful of a teenaged daughter and a mother who worries that
Gemma has no life. So when her mother receives a mysterious
letter telling her about an even more mysterious inheritance in
Tuscany, Gemma sees her chance: the three of them throw
caution and convention to the wind and leave for Italy. Gemma
hopes that a change of scenery will bring back the closeness
she used to share with her daughter. And perhaps the
challenges of living in a foreign country will give her mother
something to worry about beyond Gemma's social life.
But what they encounter there is far more distracting than
Gemma expected: a crumbling old villa and a town divided.
Half the residents believe that Ben Raphael, another American,
is the rightful inheritor of the villa. As cultures clash, gossip
soars, and intrigue unfolds, Gemma is caught up in the most
disturbing and delicious trouble she's ever had. And her
summer in Tuscany will change her outlook-and her lifeforever.
Gemma, an overworked ER doctor, her mother, Nonna, a
typical Italian widow who spends her week cooking the Sunday
supper, and daughter Livvie, a punked-up but well-adjusted
teen, are living normal, unexciting lives in New York City until
Nonna receives a letter informing her of an inheritance in her
childhood village of Bella Piacere. The letter launches the
Jerichos into situations both delicious and funny in a novel in
which romance is detailed as vividly as the landscape of
Tuscany. Gemma becomes embroiled in a mystery with the
intriguing Ben Raphael, while Nonna is transformed and
charms a man from her youth, and Livvie has a ball with
Florence's dashing teens.
