THE MYSTERY OF SORATH

 The Mystery of Sorath

Rudolf Steiner tells us there will be three manifestations of the number 666 in world
history. 666 is the number of the Beast and the number of the name Sorath.

According to Rudolf Steiner each time Sorath’s manifestation occurs it is more obvious.
Now we are at the time of his third manifestation and the paradox is that when things
are too obvious we just don’t notice them because we are looking for a ‘mystery’. But who
is this supra-cosmic being? What are his origins and his plans for world evolution? And
how can we recognise these playing out in the world around us?

This lecture seeks to begin an exploration of this mystery in light of spiritual science.

Let us pause a moment to say a Protection Mantra. Imagining a blue light in the shape of
an egg all around us let us say:

May the outer sheath of my aura become denser.

May it surround me with an impermeable skin for all impure,
Unclean thoughts and feelings.
May it only open to God's wisdom.

Who is Sorath?

Rudolf Steiner tells us that every planet has its good spirit and its demon. Sorath is the
Sun demon and is the direct Antagonist of Christ the Sun Being.

Rudolf Steiner does not mention Sorath’s Hierarchical affinity, nor his origins, except
to say that he does not belong to our Solar System, or the evolution of the Earth in any
way.

He tells us, Sorath originates in other world periods and has acquired the tendencies of
other world periods.

One could say his origins are found in a period before Saturn in a different Solar
System directly preceding our own and has a connection with the Sun Sphere or the
Second hieararchy.

Beings of Darkness

Now all the beings from the second Hierarchy up from the Exusiai to the Seraphim had
completed their human stage before Saturn evolution, but they have a place in our
evolution as ‘creator gods’. With respect to the Kyriotetes, Dynamis and the Exusiai who
belong to Old Sun evolution, they may have had their human stage at about the middle of
the previous Cosmic period…perhaps an equivalent period to our present epoch

The beings we know as the ‘Angels’ have had their human stage during the planetary
evolutions of this Solar System:

Archai - Saturn
Archangels – Sun
Angels - Moon

But there are angels who fell behind – these are what one might call the Beings of
Darkness.

Asuras are the foremost beings who fell behind on Saturn when the physical body of
human beings was being elaborated (warmth). They did not reach their human stage on
Saturn and so although they should now be Exusiai, they are now at the level of Archai
with the potential of Exusiai. They have a predilection for the physical body and that
part of the soul, which has a particular connection to the physical body – the
Consciousness Soul – all the degradation of society and culture are their inspiration,
they have only recently entered earth evolution.

Ahriman was the foremost being to fall behind on the Old Sun. He did not reach the
human stage. Ahriman belongs to Earth evolution and has since Atlantean times become a
seducer of human beings. He has evolved ‘abnormally’ to the stage of Archangel. He
should be an Archai but he has not reached that stage. Even so, he has the ‘potential’ of
an Archai. His hosts, or those who followed him in his ‘falling behind’ are those we call
the Ahrimanic spirits. Ahriman has a particular predilection for the human etheric body,
since he fell behind when the human etheric body was being elaborated on Old Sun, and
so, in particular, the human intellect, which he seeks to harden – the Intellectual Soul.
So on earth his task is to unite the human intellect to the human brain and to the
mineral nature of the world so, to matter. All ‘materialism’ all hardening is his
inspiration.

Lucifer was the foremost being who fell behind on Old Moon when the human Astral
body was being elaborated. He is an angel, known as the ‘brother’ of Christ, who has the
potential of an Archai. He did not develop his I on Old Moon and he and his hosts must
accomplish this on Earth through human beings. He has belonged to Earth Evolution since
Lemurian times where he tempted the Adam Eve complex to fall and thus made the
freedom of the human soul possible by way of perception. All dreamy flights of fancy all
nebulous mysticism belong to his inspiration.

The Beings of Light

Sophia is the highest being on the Sun, the Kyriotetes, whose responsibility is to gather
the cosmic intelligence, the wisdom of all the cosmic conversations about what can be
known of Christ. She is a Sobornal being, meaning, she is at the head of the hierarchies
beneath her and looks upwards to the first hierarchy as those who are her inspirers.
The image in the Book of Revelations of the woman with the Sun in her belly, the stars
crowning her head and the Moon at her feet is the macrocosmic expression of this
being.
Michael was the foremost ‘Human’ being on Old Sun and is Ahriman’s direct cosmic
Adversary. He has a close connection to the highest member of the ranks of Kyriotetes
– Sophia - and is called the Son of the Sophia. He has a particular affinity with the
human etheric body and the intellect and he has been the guardian of the Cosmic
Intelligence until it was sacrificed to humanity. Michael and his hosts seek to keep the
path to the intellect free so that it can develop a new organ of spiritual perception.

Anthroposophia is the Body of Anthroposophy, she has descended from Sun heights in
order to elaborate the human soul into a vessel for Christ over aeons, where she was
seen as Theosophy, Philosophy and finally Anthroposophy. She incarnated as a human
being at the Turning Point in Time as the Luke Mary, now she is the guardian angel of
Spiritual Science.

Christ is the Son Logos who left his abode beyond the stars and entered through the
gateway of the Sun into our solar system in order to sacrificed Himself five times.
Three times in spiritual worlds on his descent to Earth so as to die an Earthly death to
bring the forces of Life or consciousness into the human soul – the IAM. He has since
sacrificed himself once more in the Angelic realm before the turn of the last century.

Ahriman and Asuras and Lucifer are the Earthly Adversaries of Christ and Earthly
instrument of Sorath.

Sophia, Michael and Anthroosophia, – are the Cosmic Adversaries of Asuras, Ahriman
and Lucifer and the instruments of Christ.

So who is Sorath?

He is called the ‘Sun Demon’ but what does this mean?

As I mentioned earlier, every planet has its demon, a retarded being who works in
opposition to the regent of that planet. This opposition is necessary and has been
responsible for our earthly evolution. But Sorath does not belong to our Solar System so
what is he doing here?

Sergei O Prokofieff considers the possibility that Sorath belongs to the Hierarchy of
Exuisiai1. The Exusiai are those beings of the second hiearchy who are the principle
Regents of the Sun. Their human development would have taken place at about the
middle of the previous aeon. But if Sorath is a ‘backward’ Exusiai then he has the
potential for being a Dynamis and so is one step above without the rank.

The task of the Dynamis is to bring about balance in the solar system, the task of the
Exusiai during Earth evolution, was to breathe life (ego) into the human being, so it is
easy to understand how Sorath would work against both principles, desiring on the one
hand to bring about an imbalance that is capable of throwing Earth Evolution off its
course and thwarting the work of the highest expression of the Cosmic ‘I’ or ego - the
Sun being of Christ, who as the second Logos left the womb of the Sun (Sophia) to unite
Himself with Earth evolution in order to bring to it His cosmic ‘I’.

Sorath endeavours to attack both Sophia, the highest being of the rank of Kyriotetes
on the Sun and Christ, the Sun Logos, and this attack is depicted in the Book of
Revelations in the 12th Chapter: Sophia is depicted as the woman who is about to give
birth to a Sun Child (Christ)…while the Dragon (Sorath in the spiritual worlds takes on
this cosmic form) stands at the ready to devour Him. After that we are told that a war
breaks out in heaven, in which Michael and his angels fight this dragon and it is hurled
down to the Earth.

Through out the aeons this image of the woman (Sophia) giving birth to a (Christ) child
in the heavens signified how the Sun kindles the ‘I’ and that one day the being of the
sun, Christ the Son, would enter the world to kindle the ‘I’ not merely in the prepared
vessel or etheric sun-soul – the Nathan Jesus - but also in the etheric body of all human
beings who became conscious of Him. Michael, son of the Sophia and the Countenance of
Christ, fights the dragon Sorath who is poised to devour the child in spiritual worlds,
defending the Divine Sophia and Christ. This Macrocosmic event has its reflection in the
human soul Microcosmically Michael defends the Wisdom of Christ in the human soul –
Anthroposophia - on earth, one could say what he is defending is the etheric body, the
wisdom body, so that it may become the vehicle of consciousness for the ‘I’ of Christ
which is love, just as the blood is the vehicle of human I consciousness. He can do this
because, having been the principal human being on the Sun, he has a special affinity with
the etheric body (light) and the human ‘I’.

In a number of lectures but most prominently in the lecture cycle named The Fall of the
Spirits of Darkness, Rudolf Steiner characterises this ‘fall of the dragon’ from the
perspective of our times, being that which occurred after the war that ensued in heaven
from mid 1840’s to 1879, at which time the Ahrimanic angels with the power of
Archangels were cast out of the spiritual world (etheric world) by Michael towards the
Earth:

‘I was speaking of something quite concrete, namely the battle which began in the 1840s in the spiritual world
lying immediately above our own. This was a metamorphosis of the battles, which are always given the ancient
symbol of the battle fought by St Michael against the dragon. I told you that this battle continued until
November 1879, and after this Michael gained the victory — and the dragon, that is the ahrimanic powers,
were cast down into the human sphere’ 2

In the human being, Microcosmically, this has its reflection in the Ahrimanic angels
being cast out of the nervous system and into the blood.

Michael cast out the dragon (Spirits of Darkness who represent him) for two reasons.
Firstly their presence in the spiritual world polluted it to such an extent that human
beings would not have been capable of experiencing Christ in the Etheric world as he was
manifesting through an angelic being (Nathan Soul). In truth materialism on earth was
carried to the spiritual world by sleeping souls at night and this fed the evil of those
beings of darkness that battled there so that it caused a great pollution to arise in that
realm strangulating and asphyxiating the angelic being who manifested Christ. Rudolf
Steiner tells us that being died in the etheric world. This Rudolf Steiner tells us was the
Second Mystery of Golgotha. those beings of darkness had to be banished to create an
‘unpolluted realm’ in the etheric world, for only that way could human beings who had

developed etheric thinking could perceive Christ’s Resurrection through that angelic
Being in the Etheric World. This was the rebirth, which the ‘sign’ in heaven had foretold.

The dragon was always seen as that being that inspires those forces on earth, which
work to kill this ‘I’ in human beings or in the etheric world, before it can be born .

From the perspective of the 19th century, the woman is not only Sophia, but also
Anthroposophia in the human soul, helping humanity to develop the Consciousness Soul,
which in our times must give birth to this Christ ‘I’, a consciousness capable of
perceiving Christ as he began to manifest in the etheric world through the reborn angel
from around the year 1933 onwards.

There is another way to look at it. Michael not only throws the spirits of darkness to
earth once in order to leave the etheric world clear of their ‘clouding’ but this battle is
ongoing because he does it every autumn in the outer world and he also works to ‘clear’
the path from the heart to the head, that is, he throws from the dragon from the
Astral body to the Etheric body, from the nerves to the blood, in other words, he wipes
away all the ‘after images and complements’ of the things we see with every perception,
and thrusts the beings that belong to all we see, into the depths of our souls. For we
must remember that in our time, all we see, which forms the basis of our intellectual
thinking is ‘infected’ with dragon forces.3 And it is in our thinking that abnormal angels,
which have the potential for being Archangels have entered, since their fall, causing
havoc because human beings are not conscious of them.

The Angels of Darkness were cast out of the nervous system and into the human blood, and now wreak the
havoc in the human blood, which I have described. It is because they are at work in the human blood that all
the things I have described as due to the influence of retarded Angels are happening here on earth. It is
because they are at work in the human blood that people have become as clever as I have said. All this
developed slowly and gradually, of course, and we are able to say that whilst the profound break came in 1841,
the whole of the nineteenth century had been infected with it.4

So in a sense, the battle of the spirits of darkness with the spirits of light has moved
from the spiritual world, to the soul of human beings, into that threshold between the
blood and the nerves. And the principle task of humanity is to become conscious of this
battle and through this consciousness, to find the ‘I’ of Christ in the human etheric
body, and in the etheric world.

But the important point is this: the organ of perception which can find the ‘I’ of Christ
in the etheric world and in the human soul, will come in our time only through a
transformation of thinking in the etheric body so that thinking becomes an organ of
perception and in this way a victory in the human soul, in the very blood, is gained over
the forces of the ‘dragon’.

So to recapitulate in spiritual worlds Sorath has the cosmic form of a dragon, but he
works in the physical world through those 3 X 6 or the three-fold manifestation of the
number 6 which is the imperfect number, this being 3 category of retarded angels, or
what one can call the ‘army’ of Sorath on Earth:

Lucifer - retarded Archangel working as an Angel – fell behind on Old Moon – Entered
Earth Evolution in Lemurian times – 3rd Great Epoch

Ahriman – retarded Archai working as an Archangel – fell behind on Old Sun – entered
Earth Evolution during Atlantean times – 4th Great Epoch.

Asuras – retarded Spirit of Form working as Archai – fell behind on Old Saturn - have
entered Earth Evolution only during the 5th Great Epoch of Earth Evolution.

And 3 earthly manifestations of the Beast in our 5th Post Atlantean Epoch:

1st 666AD – Academy of Gondhi Shapur – where a premature intelligence was fostered.
2nd 1332 AD – Demise of the Templars – where there was a seizing of the intelligence of
Templars.
3rd 1998 AD – The advent of Artificial Intelligence in which the intelligence of humanity
is fused with machines.

In the Book of Revelations we find these four adversarial beings named as:

The Dragon = Sorath

The Snake/1st Beast = Lucifer
The Devil/2nd Beast = Ahriman
Satan = Asuras

So when the Dragon falls to Earth this is when the war in which human beings are the
‘prize’, begins. The Book of Revelations tells us that the Fall of the Dragon, results in a
‘rising’ up of two Beasts.

We are told the first Beast rises up from the sea, he has seven heads and ten crowns –
he is given the ‘power’ of the dragon, his throne and authority, and is a blasphemer
against Christ. This beast Rudolf Steiner tells us, is comprised of human beings who
have succumbed to the forces of the Dragon. They have become vessels for the
elemental beings that serve the dragon on Earth - as the Book of Revelations calls them
– Locusts.

‘With the human soul withdrawing more and more from the body, the body is increasingly in danger of being
filled with something else. And if human beings are not prepared to take up impulses which can only come from
spiritual knowledge, the body will be filled with demonic powers. Humanity is facing a destiny where the body
may be filled with ahrimanic demonic powers. So we have to add to what I said yesterday about future
development: there will be people in future who are Tom, Dick and Harry in ordinary life, which is something
determined by social circumstances, but their bodies will be empty to such an extent that a powerful ahrimanic
spirit can live in them. One will be meeting ahrimanic demons. Human beings will not be what they appear to be.
The individual person will be deep down inside, and outwardly one will get a totally different picture.’ 5

Whenever Rudolf Steiner speaks of demonic powers we need to understand what this
means. The primal ‘Powers’ are the Exusiai or the Spirits of Form. Sorath tentatively
belongs to this hierarchy, though he has the potential of a Dynamis. So when we speak
of demonic powers, we are speaking of those beings that have been infected with the
‘power’ of Sorath. So when we are told by John in his Book of Revelations that the first
Beast is given the ‘power’ of the Dragon, he is speaking of those Luciferic elemental
beings which have fallen into Temptation of the dragon. They rise up from the sub-
earthly ethers - from the ‘sea’ – and into the human blood and lymph. Their inspiration is
everything to do with blood ties and what lives below the ground – Blood and Soil.

Then we are told a Second Beast rises from the Earth. It has two horns and speaks like
the dragon. The fact that it speaks intimates to us that it is connected to Ahriman, who
is the foremost antagonist on Earth of the ‘Word’ of Christ. This Beast performs great
signs and orders human beings to form an image of the first Beast into which he
breathes ‘life’ and so endows it with the ability to speak. Here we see how the Ahrimanic
being serves Sorath through a distorted image of the work of the Exuisiai or Spirits of
Form who breathed ‘life’ or the ‘I’ into the human beings on Earth during Lemurian times.
But this is a shadow, because image of the first beast is only given an anti ego, it is a
‘dead’ ‘life’ an automata, which speaks for the beast – with his words – it cannot think or
create, it can only ‘calculate’.6 And it causes all people to receive a mark on their
foreheads (nerves and senses) and their right hands (blood/pulse), so they may not buy
or sell without the mark, which is the name of the Beast and the number of a man. 666.

In Gematria 666 = Sorath.

In some of his lectures Rudolf Steiner refers to Ahriman as Satan, at other times he
refers to Sorath as Satan and Asuras as Satan. So let us look at this more closely:

Ahriman, as we have stated above, did not finish his human stage on Old Sun and should
be an Archai but is still an Archangel. While Asuras did not finish their human stage on
Old Saturn and so, they should be Exusiai but instead belong to the hierarchy of Archai.
It is this connection with the hierarchy of Archai that results in Asuras and Ahriman
both being called Satan at different times, but only when they work together for
Sorath. When they work on their own behalf they are Ahriman and Asuras.

So one sees the reason why in Rudolf Steiner’s lectures to the Priests Satan has the
degree of an Archai.

Leaving that aside for a moment let us first take a look at the two Beasts which are the
fallen and then risen Earthly manifestation of the Dragon Sorath.

Rudolf Steiner tells us in his lectures to the Priests that whenever John speaks of
Beasts he is speaking of two experiences of the dragon, a physical Macrocosmic one and

also its Microcosmic effect on the human soul. Macrocosmically the Beast is Biela’s
comet, according to Rudolf Steiner. Attention on it began in the 1840’s when calculations
suggested that by 1933 it must surely collide with the Earth, but in 1872 it split into
two and disintegrated and its particles became absorbed by the Earth. In this we see
the physical manifestation of the ‘fall’ of the ‘beast’.

The Earth digested the comet’s particles when it entered the seas, rivers, oceans,
forests, the soil but its effects rose up homoeopathically again to affect human astral
bodies, for good or ill.7 Cyanide, according to Rudolf Steiner has a particular effect of
purifying the Astral body in very small homeopathic doses. It enters the earth…one
might say all the way to the core and moves up through the layers, through the soil to
the root of the plants. Animals eat these plants and humans eat these plants and animals
and this ‘chemical’ effect also has an effect on the elemental beings who are connected
to the minerals, plants and animals. That is what John meant when he said that the
Beast was set loose on the Earth…particularly through the etheric world of nature and
the elemental beings. This has an effect of clearing our Astral body, but it can also have
a negative effect on the Astral body, particularly if the human double, which, one might
say is also connected to the elemental beings, is strong in a human being. It can, in that
case, strengthen the double.

Remember, Michael thrust the Angels of darkness from the Spiritual world to the
Physical world, from the nerves to the blood. So one might say this comet’s ‘fall’ is the
physical manifestation of the work of Michael and his hosts in the spiritual world, but
whether this is spiritually healthy or unhealthy depends a great deal on an individual’s
weaknesses.

Since that time human beings have had to face this battle in the blood, or the etheric
body, and it is this struggle, between light and darkness in the human soul, which, if it is
conscious, will lead to the development of the organ of thinking into an organ of etheric
perception.

This astral organ is found in the head. It is the two petalled chakra8 and it is created by
our work at cleansing the astral body. Perception with this organ will cause an
etherisation or spiritualisation of our blood which unites it with the etheric stream of
Christ – through thoughts imbued with Spirit – and Michael gave us a hand in this by
clearing of the Astral body, through the cometary substance he sent to earth. We must
accept this gift in the right way before we can see the Etheric Christ. Hence Rudolf
Steiner tells us:

‘Before the etheric Christ can be comprehended by human beings in the right way, humanity must first cope
with encountering the Beast who will rise up in 1933.’

This means, essentially, that what entered the earth in 1872 when the Biela Comet split
and its effects fell to Earth, these effects rose up from the ‘ground’ particularly
through the elemental world and into the human being by 1933. So from 1872 to 1933
there was a gradual rising of Beast in the souls of human beings. That is why 666 is the
number of ‘a Man’ – it denotes human beings infected with the first beast and corrupted

in order that the second Beast might possess them fully and make them into automata.
Those who were inspired by the collective ‘Beast’ after 1933 inspired the First World
War which was really a preparation for the Second World which would lead to Nazism
and Bolshevism and all the wars that have come since that time, all the destruction we
have seen in the world as after effects of the rising of the Beast.

So to recapitulate, the Beast with seven Heads and Ten crowns, are those Luciferic
human beings who are infected with the fallen elementals which corrupts their souls so
that they can be possessed by the ‘power’ of the Beast with two horns, possessed by
higher beings connected to the Dragon, who works in such a way in the blood as to
affect even the physical features of a human animal – the Blonde Beast. This dragon,
through his beasts, who are human beings, inspires the terrible crimes we have seen
perpetrated against those who are not of the same ‘blood and soil’ 9– meaning, those who
do not have the mark of the beast, or the effect of the spirits of darkness and their
elemental helpers, in their thinking heads (nerves) and in their wrists (blood).

One can draw a connection between the Cyanide found in the substance of a comet,
which entered the earth and the oceans – the physical world and the physical human
being with the cyanide gas used by the Nazis to kill millions. For although Cyanide in
cosmic homeopathic doses clears the Astral body, if it is taken through the lungs it
enters the blood and it has the effect of destroying the etheric body of human beings
and for destroying the etheric body of the Sun.

‘If anthroposophical knowledge could be more widely known, no one would poison himself with potassium
cyanide. One would not dream of it! It is only through a materialistic view of life that people poison themselves
with potassium cyanide, because they think 'dead is dead', quite irrespective of whether one dies of cyanide
poisoning or by an inner process of dissipation. But that is not a matter of indifference!

If one dies through inner dispersion then the soul and spirit pass into the spiritual world in the usual way; they
continue to live on. But when one is poisoned by cyanide one's soul tends to accompany each little piece of
one's body, namely, to expand with the nitrogen and to dissolve into the cosmos. That is the true death of soul
and spirit. If people would only know that soul and spirit are the real human being, they would say: It is quite
impossible that we should cause the terrible explosion which, in a delicate way has its repercussion throughout
the whole of the cosmos, when somebody poisons himself with cyanide. For every person who poisons
himself with potassium cyanide joins himself in a wrong way to the current which flows from the earth to the
sun. And it should be possible, if one had the right instruments, to see a small explosion in the sun every time
that a person poisons himself with cyanide. And the sun deteriorates through that. A human being spoils the
cosmos and also the force which comes from the sun to the earth if he poisons himself with cyanide. If a
person poisons himself with cyanide then it is true that he actually ruins the sun! And that is the case with

every cyanide poisoning.’

So we see how the soul/moral as well as the natural world, join in a single evolution
through human beings in our times.

On Earth the Dragon works through the Beasts. But Sorath does not merely wish to
combat human beings by way of his army on Earth – since that army actually belongs to
Earth Evolution, it does not always work according to Sorath’s plans because those
beings need the Earth in order to develop! So one can speak of them being ‘adversely’
ordered to be opponents of evolution with a ‘promise’ that they will one day be
‘redeemed’. Sorath, on the other hand, does not belong to Earth Evolution and will never

be redeemed through it so he has no qualms in destroying it. He works from his own
desire to combat Christ and all those who serve Him and to do this he must destroy the
Earth and Human beings because Christ has united Himself with Human beings and with
Earth Evolution through the Mystery of Golgotha.

In fact Rudolf Steiner tells us that had Sorath been able to strangle (suffocate) the
Christ spirit in the Germ…or one could also say, in the realm of the bones, the entire
Earth would have succumbed to Sorath.11 Why is this so? It is because the bones are
connected to the spirit through thinking’s relationship to the breath and blood.

Sorath could only have got something from the Earth by being able to achieve dominion at a certain moment,
namely when the Christ principle descended to the Earth. If the Christ principle had been stifled in the
germinal stage, if Christ had been overcome by the adversary it would have been possible for the Earth in tis

entirety to succumb to the Sorat principle.’

This danger occurred as Christ entered the bones of Jesus on the cross and that is why
not a bone of His could be ‘broken’ until the mystery was consummated – until Christ had
suffered an Earthly Death.

It seems to me that one could imagine that in another Cosmic aeon, Christ and Sorath
stood opposite one another in a mighty contest and that Christ overcame Sorath, but in
doing so Christ created the ‘cosmic karma’ - a weakness on the Sun which enabled Sorath
to ‘slip’ into it’s Sphere as its demon through his affinity to the Exusiai who are the
‘regents of the sun’ in order to have his revenge on Christ.

So he is a stowaway in our Solar System and Christ is his only equal in our Solar System.

So when one speaks of Sorath as the opponent of Christ, he is called the Antichrist –
for even Christ himself must have his counterpart. And so when we speak of all three
category of beings 666 working for Sorath, we are also speaking of the Antichrist. For
just as your name denotes your spirit but also refers to your limbs, heart and lungs and
head, so too does the name Antichrist refer to Sorath as well as those members of his
‘being’ that work for him.

The Antichrist uses all three category of retarded beings to accomplish his task,
however Christ uses only human beings! This is the important point and one we must not
gloss over! Christ places such high expectations on humanity that He allows human
beings to connect him freely in order to bring to Him those higher forces that can help
Him. For he has discarded his ‘higher’ members on his way to the earth in order to unite
with humanity and human beings must lift themselves up to create those forces through
Anthroposophia, Michael and Sophia.

We have seen how in the past manifestations of the number 666 have been linked to
human intelligence. The year 1998 or thereabouts is the third manifestion of the
number and, according to Rudolf Steiner, it is supposed to herald a more obvious

manifestation of Sorath. But the obvious can become so obvious it ends up being ‘ho-
hum’. This itself is a tool of Ahriman and Sorath – that knowledge of them is taken
intellectually into the soul and not fully consciously understood so that it becomes
‘common’ and when something is common knowledge it looses its spiritual, esoteric
potency.

Firstly we must take into consideration that Sorath/Satan, that is, Sorath working
through Asuras, is in our times – the age of the Consciousness Soul, the most
comprehensive owner of intellectuality, according to Rudolf Steiner who said that
before the internet was even imagined!

The intellect in human beings is something Sorath has been desiring to seize since his
first manifestation 666 because it is the ONLY aspect of the human soul which is free
from the protection and guidance of higher beings. This freedom necessary for our
development is also our greatest weakness. Michael made this freedom possible so that
we might, out of our own soul forces, come to the spirit again – the Cosmic Intelligence
of the Spirit. But it is through the intellect which is stripped of spirit that
Satan/Sorath seeks to use as a window into the feeling and will of human beings - to
take an entire human soul into his realm is his desire.

We know that the evolution of the world will proceed in seven stages, Saturn, Sun, Moon,
Earth, Jupiter, Venus and Vulcan.

Rudolf Steiner tells us that when the Moon separated from the Earth this was the seed
of freedom – one might say the human head or nervous system became free of the
coarse materiality of the Moon, and its astrality which was incorporated only into the
mineral kingdom to create gravity. Gravity is what has made us Earthly beings and only
Earthly beings can develop a free intellect which can be spiritualised into true thinking.
Hence Rudolf Steiner tells us in the Foundation Stone Meditation, ‘Then, from the
ground of the spirit in man, thou wilt truly think.’

‘It can be said with truth that the separation of the moon, with the consequent changes in the earth and in the
being of man, was the outcome of a decision on the part of the Spiritual Beings who guide and direct the
evolution of humanity. It was because this coarse moon-substance was sent out of the earth that man's
organism developed in such a way as to make it possible for him to become an earthly being. Through this event
— through the separation of the moon and the incorporation of the mineral kingdom into the earth — man has
become an earthly being, existing in the sphere of earthly gravity. Without earthly gravity, he could never
have become a being capable of freedom.’

But during Earth evolution and particularly since 1879 and the fall of the angels into the
blood and its spiritual manifestation - the etheric body - this intellect or soul organ of
thought has grown ‘shadowy’ because human thinking is elaborated only from what is
materially perceived and so it creates concepts only regarding the physical world – this
is what Rudolf Steiner refers to as Materialism.

Materialistic thinking is free from the spirit because it has become detached from the
rest of the soul, which is protected by higher beings, but if life is not kindled in this
thinking by our efforts, in other words, if the will activity of the mind is not exercised,
the spirit behind things, cannot be recognised. And if human intelligence does not
become consciousness through spirit awareness, a recollection of the spirit, by the time
the Moon unites with the earth once again, what human beings have created through
their shadowy thoughts, in other words, all that has become detached from the human
being in the realm of intelligence will become a new brood of elemental beings. All our
shadow pictures will be quickened to life.

He warns that:

‘From the earth there will spring forth a terrible brood of beings, a brood of automata of an order of
existence lying between the mineral and the plant kingdoms, and possessed of an overwhelming power of
intellect.’13

Rudolf Steiner goes on to say:

‘This swarm will seize upon the earth, will spread over the earth like a network of ghastly, spider-like
creatures, of an order lower than that of plant-existence, but possessed of overpowering wisdom. These
spidery creatures will be all interlocked with one another, and in their outward movements they will imitate
the thoughts that men have spun out of the shadowy intellect that has not allowed itself to be quickened by
the new form of Imaginative Knowledge by Spiritual Science.’14

And,

‘All the thoughts that lack substance and reality will then be endowed with being.
The earth will be surrounded — as it is now with air and as it sometimes is with swarms of locusts — with a
brood of terrible spider-like creatures, half-mineral, half-plant, interweaving with masterly intelligence, it is
true, but with intensely evil intent. And in so far as man has not allowed his shadowy intellectual concepts to be
quickened to life, his existence will be united not with the Beings who have been trying to descend since the
last third of the nineteenth century, but with this ghastly brood of half-mineral, half-plantlike creatures. He
will have to live together with these spider-like creatures and to continue his cosmic existence within the
order of evolution into which this brood will then enter.’15

Spiders, Rudolf Steiner tells us, are controlled by elemental spirits that belong to the
8th Sphere. So we are talking about elemental spirits that have a connection to what we
call ‘hell’ in classical tradition. In one respect Hell will become one with the Earth when
the Earth becomes one with the Moon again.

‘All parasitic beings are ruled and controlled by Elemental Spirits. These are the beings who had already
completed their own particular development in the Lemurian epoch, hence Form predominates in them. They
are now on the decline; so too, for instance, are all the animals which have an outer skeleton. On the Moon they
had an inner skeleton. The inner skeleton has dissolved, and they surround themselves externally with a horny
layer (e.g. beetles). These are preparing for their decline into the Eighth Sphere. The Moon has also had an
Eighth Sphere, a companion moon. At that time these beings were complete, but they shot beyond their
evolution and are now like over-ripe fruit. Spiders belong to the Eighth Sphere; and among plants, the
mistletoe. For that reason Goethe described the kingdom of the spiders and the flies to Mephistopheles.
Everything parasitical is an external expression of Elemental beings living on the astral plane. Man was
formerly an elemental being himself. Not all that is physical in man is destined to be redeemed; the dross will
be left behind. This dross is continually present in man, it is under the influence of the astral elemental
beings.”

The Eighth Sphere.

The Eighth Sphere or the Hell of tradition, is that sphere which was detached from the
Old Moon before it became Earth. It contains the dross, of Moon Astrality. One might
this Eighth Sphere an ‘Anti Moon’ and it is into this sphere that Sorath works.

This sphere is connected to the earth by way of the 9th Layer of the Earth. So one
might say, the layers of the Earth do not form the 8th sphere but the 9th Layer, which
Rudolf Steiner Characterises as the layer of the greatest Egoism and black Magic is the
layer that connects the Earth with the 8th Sphere. Kamaloca is the sphere between the
Earth and the Moon, it is what is traditionally known as Purgatory, so in this sense the
two - kamaloca and the Eighth Sphere - stand opposite one another and do not come
together except that they have one connection – the human being.

It is for this reason that Rudolf Steiner tells us the dead cannot be contacted during a
séance because Mediums through their trances usually only access the beings that
belong to the Eighth Sphere.

The Eighth Sphere is where Christ descended after his death at Golgotha, this is his
descent into hell, in order to bind the lowest of the beings that reside there – the
Asuras. In Lemurian times there was a recapitulation of the stage when the Moon
separated from the Earth, and it was at this stage that Jehova elected to descend or to
remain behind on the Moon to create a counterbalance.
Our Fifth Great Post Atlantean Epoch is a recapitulation of this separation of the Moon
from the Earth which occurred in Lemurian times, and the Egyptian Cultural epoch was
also a recapitulation of this separation. Our Fifth Cultural Epoch as a recapitulation of
Egyptian times is once again a further recapitulation of this split with the Moon and it is
for this reason that we are at the point in our development as a human race, in which we
are dealing with the mystery of evil. And it is no coincidence that at this time we are
developing the Consciousness Soul, which, according to Rudolf Steiner has a potential to
bring consciousness of the spirit or to be fused to the physical body as a temptation of
the Asuras and become terribly egoistic.

Lucifer tempted us through Perception – Astral Body

Ahriman tempts us through Thinking – Etheric Body
Asuras tempts us through Consciousness – Physical body

We need to remember that Asuras’ predilection for the physical body goes back to the
fact that they remained behind on Old Saturn when the seed of the human physical body
was being created and so when you combine this with the fall of the spirits of Darkness
into the realm of thinking and memory, there is the possibility that these angels will, by
materialising thinking, intensify the work of the Asuras who will then bind our
consciousness (I) through thinking to our physical brains and therefore our physical
bodies.

But since around 1879 other beings are entering our Earth sphere from the cosmic
realms beyond the earth, other beings have been entering Earth Evolution and desiring
to enter into a relationship with us according to Rudolf Steiner:

‘Since the eighties of the nineteenth century, super-earthly Beings have been seeking to enter the sphere of
earth-existence. Just as the Vulcan-men were the last to come down to the earth so now Vulcan Beings are
actually coming into the realm of earthly existence. Super-earthly Beings are already here, and the fact that
we are able to have a connected body of Spiritual Science at all today is due to the circumstance that Beings
from beyond the earth are bringing the messages from the spiritual world down into earth-existence.’16

Note that he does not say Vulcan Men – but Vulcan ‘Beings’ or Supermen. In other words
higher spiritual beings in the sense that they do not belong to the earth, but who
depend on us for their further development. They are in a sense our ‘teachers’ and enter
into a relationship with us. What does this mean? This means that as they enter into us
they don’t only develop through us and also at the same time they bring with them
messages from the spiritual world which teach us.

But who are these beings?

In order to understand them we have to understand the difference between Sub-nature

elemental beings, elemental beings of nature and planetary elemental beings.

Sub-natural elemental beings are connected to all that belongs in the Eighth Sphere all
that is retarded and so they are, one might say, the offspring of the three adversaries
we have mentioned above, Asuras, Ahriman and Lucifer and their relationship with human
beings. The work of these adversarial beings in the human will, thinking and feeling cause

detachments we call Phantoms Ghosts/spectres and Demons. In turn they are related to
the three fallen ethers: the Power in the Atom (fallen life), Magnetism (Fallen Sound)
and Electricity (fallen light).

The Elemental beings of Nature are related to the world and its elements, Earth,
Water, Wind and Fire.

But there are elemental beings that belong to the higher order of ethers: Light, Sound
and Life Ethers.

It is these elementary spirits, which I believe Rudolf Steiner is referring to when he

speaks of the spirits of Vulcan - those that come from a sphere between Mercury and
the Moon (this of course takes in Venus as well). He calls them Vulcan beings because
they are related to the Vulcan Mysteries, which have a connection to the last planetary
stage of human evolution.

The secret of these Vulcan beings or elementary ‘spirits’ belongs to the very hidden
Vulcan Mysteries whose great initiate is Scythianos.

The Vulcan mysteries are mysteries of the future

“Of the seven oracles, which were named after the seven planets in ancient Atlantis, the Sun Oracle stood out
from all the others, but next to it the Vulcan Oracle prepared itself in secrecy for its future task.” 17

These mysteries have a relationship to the complete spiritualisation of the Physical body
of human beings on future Vulcan, which will be a recapitulation of the Old Saturn at a
higher level and in our times has a connection to the Consciousness Soul as a pivotal
point for the future spiritualisation of the human being.

From what we now know, we can easily see how the Asuras are the most vehement
adversaries of this mystery because of their relationship to the Consciousness Soul and
the physical body. The Consciousness Soul is, one might say, the point which the upper
Gods meet the Lower Gods and in this sense it is the battleground - a mini Armageddon
where the Angels of the nerves battle those of the Blood.

As an aside, when Rudolf Steiner’s illness in his physical body was at its height he wrote
a verse for Ita Wegman – who as a physician had to acknowledging and understand these
‘green demons’ or Asuras who are the adversaries of the primordial powers or of the

progressive Archai and who work through the physical body of human beings, in
particular, in connection with his illness.

There, where the light

In face of green demons
Is tremulous,
And the primordial Powers
Born of the light
To wrestling men
Proclaim the riddle,
Which from the demons
Only by men can be enticed forth
And brought to the Gods
There soul found soul
In order to offer someday to waiting Gods
The secrets of demons
In a darkened place
That light may be born,
Where for want of this deed
Eternal darkness held sway.
Such a place there is
It must vanish
Make it someday vanish,
So speaks the admonishing
Gaze of Michael.

The place that must vanish in the verse above is the 8th sphere…that is the place where
the darkness holds sway eternally.

It is in the consciousness soul that we can become conscious of the spirit, and Asuras
which to prevent this at all costs. For the spirit enters us by way of the things we see in
the outside world through our nerves and senses, this spirit meets the etheric body
inside us, and is imprinted there so that a reflection, not of the spirit but of the mirror
image can become ‘thought’. Our consciousness of this moment, when we experience a
sensation – the place where we experience after images and complementary colours – is a
consciousness in the soul, a consciousness of the genesis of thinking – which is spirit.

But our ‘shadowy’ intellect is the product of this moment going by unnoticed, because in
the after image and complement we have something spiritual. It is the spiritual nature
of all we see that enters us and later becomes a mirror image remembered or reflected
by our brain. That mirror image of the world is what Rudolf Steiner calls ‘shadowy’
thinking, because it is a ‘shadow’ whose true being has been detached from it.

For instance we see a rose…it is red, inside us it creates a green after image, the red we
remember is the shadowy thinking, the green after image is the spirit. Seeing this green
image is the beginning of consciousness. Not seeing it means that we become more and
more estranged from the spirit. Seeing the spirit in all we see around us in our times,
but unlike former times, when we were surrounded by nature beings, much of what we
see in our times has a connection with what has become seduced and ‘trapped’ into the
physical nature of the things we have created, not through our connection with nature
elementals but through our creation of machines and technology. What enters machines
and technology are the subearthly beings or beings of the Eighth Sphere, what Rudolf
Steiner calls ‘The Beings of Birth and Death’ – the beings of Iron Necessity, which have
entered into our epoch through our memory of Lemuria and Atlantis so the Vulcan
beings had to enter human evolution to help us to fructify the intellect:

However, in order to fructify the developed intellect, a stream of spirituality from higher regions of world
existence now seeks entry into the earthly life of mankind. Whether this will happen depends upon man
opening his heart and soul to what thus seeks entry, through many doors, as it were, into the earthly world
from the spiritual world. It will be necessary for man not only to become conscious once more of the spiritual
in all nature, but able to perceive it.18

The Vulcan beings bring to us what can weave between human beings - light, warmth and
life when two or more are gathered. These are the spirits that can help us to reconnect
to the spirit so that the Sun of Christ can light up in our souls. Christ Who is the
Highest Expression of Truth and Love in the Cosmos, the Being that entered Earth
Evolution to bring us his Cosmic ‘I’, is among human beings when what weaves between
them through these spirit Messengers is conscious. They then do not merely connect us
with Christ but also, in so doing, connect the being of Christ through us, to the cosmos.

In the Four Mystery plays Rudolf Steiner says:

‘The weaving essence of the Light rays forth from Man to Man to fill the world with Truth. The blessing of
Love warms Soul by Soul to work Salvation of all worlds. And Spirit-messengers, they wed Men’s works of
blessing with the aims of Worlds. And when these twin can wed the Man who finds himself in Man, then Light
of Spirit rays through Warmth of Soul.’

The spirit messengers of Vulcan, Rudolf Steiner tells us, want to bring us the content of
spiritual science, they are the spirits who together with human beings who were
discarnate formed the hosts of Michael in spiritual worlds during the years 1840 - 1879!

For what is the body and content of spiritual science, they want to bring us, if not the
way to find Christ in our time – through a transformation of thinking (in the etheric
body) into an (astral) organ of perception of the etheric world!

‘It can be said with truth that the development of the thoughts contained in Goethe's hymn to Nature would
provide a dwelling-place for the Beings who would fain come down from the cosmos to the earth. But the
barren conceptions of physiology and biology, the systematising of plant-life and the theories that were
evolved during the nineteenth century — all the thoughts which, as I showed in the lectures on colour, have
really nothing to do with the true nature of the plants — can awaken no real knowledge, nor can they get
anywhere near the being of man. Hence the body of knowledge that is regarded today as science is essentially
a product of Ahriman, leading man on towards earthly destruction and preventing him from entering the
sphere which the Beings from beyond the earth have been trying to place within his reach since the last third
of the nineteenth century.’19

The Vulcan beings bring to us what lives in the sphere between the Moon and the planet
Mercury in advance of the fusion of the Earth with the Moon, which will lead to the loss
of a counterbalance to the Eighth Sphere.

But we must receive these beings consciously if they are to fructify our thinking or:

‘Upheaval upon upheaval will ensue, and earth existence will at length arrive at social chaos if these beings
descended and human existence were to consist only of opposition against them. For these beings wish to be
nothing less than the advance guard of what will happen to earth existence when the moon reunites once again
with earth.’20

What does this mean to be ‘the Advance Guard’ of what will happen when the moon
unites with the Earth?

What is an Advance Guard? The Dictionary tells us it is a military unit sent ahead of a
main body to find gaps in the enemy defences, to clear away minor opposition and to
prevent unexpected contact with the enemy. It is a temporary military detachment sent
a head of a force to prepare for a landing or other operation. They come therefore to
help us ahead of time, before it is too late.

The Moon is destined to unite with the Earth again, at which time the Astrality of the
Earth will be greatly enhanced and so the Astrality in human beings. If this coincides
with another mystery, which is mentioned in the mysteries - an Axial coincidence - the
Earth’s path will be diverted and the Earth will become estranged from the Sun.

In order to understand how this might come about we must look at Sorath’s attack on
humanity as two pronged. He will not merely turn human beings into Beasts and create
the right conditions for a rising up of the 8th Sphere but he will also according to Rudolf

Steiner, strive to use the Asuras or Satan, to derail the Earth from its cosmic course –
in other words to derail its orbit around the sun.

The Earth as we know spins around a rotation axis that runs through the North and
South Pole. This rotation axis is fixed in a titled position relative to the Earth-Sun plane
and relative to the distant stars. This results in our seasons, the cycle of the year and
time itself, what we call ‘life’ on Earth. Rudolf Steiner tells us that the Spirit of the
Rotation of Time is the angelic being responsible for the Earth’s rotation around the
Sun.

‘Those in whom Consciousness predominates have a their own Form consciousness which is more all-embracing
than their own Life, their own Form. Therefore, they can exercise power over other lives and other forms. In
Christian Esotericism these beings are called: Angels of the Rotation of Time. A planet is only able to revolve
around the sun because it has an Angel of the Rotation of Time who can exercise the power of driving it
around the sun. These are Planetary Dhyanis, or Planetary Spirits. Our earth has its own Angel of the Rotation
of Time, its earth-Dyani. (The Earth Spirit in Faust). Its body is the whole astral substance of the earth.'21

‘Again the imprint of the Spirits of the Rotation of Time is what is usually known to ordinary consciousness as
the Laws of Nature. Fundamentally all the laws of nature are in existence because the Spirits of the Rotation

of Time work as the directing powers.’

Michael Himself is committed to the Earth’s connection to the Sun, but he fears Satan.

‘Michael who has the degree of an Archangel (this being prior to his ascent to Archai) does not have the rank
of Satan, who has the degree of an Archai. Michael is only and Archangel. From Michael’s point of view Satan is

not a power to be despised but a power to be immensely feared.’

Satan or Sorath working through Asuras, lies in wait for every comet. He desires to
seize it and by doing so hopes to use its direction and momentum to disrupt the orbits of
all the planets including the earth.

"Satan will succeed in taking his initial steps towards bringing disorder into the planetary system. Humanity
will have to develop a strong spirituality to counteract this. The disorder that will come about can only be
counteracted by the strong spirituality of human beings."

But in order for this to happen the elemental beings of nature have to be seduced by
Ahriman.

‘If it should happen that the elemental beings come under the guidance of Ahriman with the clear intention of
opposing human evolution, then mankind would be unable to make further progress. The possibility would arise
that the ahrimanic powers in union with the elemental beings would divert the earth from its intended

The Shadowy Human thoughts, those disconnected from the spirit and which we call
abstract thinking - which lives in all of technology and has a connection to the 8th sphere

have caused not only a rising up of the eighth sphere to the earth creating a greater
anti spiritual ‘gravital’ pull for the Moon, but also, will eventually cause a seduction of all
the elemental beings of nature by Ahriman.

This may then lead to the seduction of the Angel who controls the Earth’s rotation and
who guides time. For the shadowy thoughts pollute the Astral Sheath of the earth,
which is one with the Astral body of this angel responsible for our earth’s rotation and
it could mean a seduction of this being by Sorath himself. This is what Rudolf Steiner
said could not be spoken of in his time and which will cause terrible chaos in the Laws of
nature.

‘It will be the greatest and most significant experience through which human beings will have to go in the
future when they have to recognise that something inexplicable is going on in the laws of nature, that
phenomena are occurring that do not fit with the laws of nature. This will happen to a high degree, and it will
not be merely a matter of miscalculating the position of a planet, so that it does not arrive at the position one
has calculated.’ 25

‘So just now we can only hint at the fact that in future the temptation and seduction even of beings from the
hierarchy of Angeloi and especially the Archangeloi might be possible.’ 26

Should this occur at the same time as the Moon unites with the earth and the 8th
Sphere has no counterweight, the Earth may well spin out of the solar system. This is
called Axial Coincidence by the brotherhoods, who know about his mystery.

The Axial Coincidence is meant to occur during the Venus stage when the 8th Sphere is
meant to become detached, it is not meant to happen ahead of time, in the 8th Millenium
of our Earth Epoch, for the 8th sphere would then take the Earth with it, so that the
Earth would miss its task and would never go on to Jupiter, Venus and Vulcan.

The vanguards of this dangerous time in the 8th Millenium are the Vulcan Beings.

They want us to understand this mystery and to heed the warnings.

So let us see how the mystery of 1998 is one that is quite obvious… Let us see if there
were any comets at that time whose influence may have helped Sorath and the Beasts on
Earth?

In 1986 we had Haley’s Comet, but only eleven years after, in 1997, there was a viewing
of a ‘new’ comet in the night sky. Hale Bop. This comet is thought to have been the most
widely observed of the 20th century, and one of the brightest seen for many decades.
It was visible to the naked eye for a record of 18 months. As the comet approached the
Sun it continued to brighten, showing a growing pair of tails (one might imagine that the
law of opposites in occult mysteries indicates that these are really horns) the blue gas
tail pointing straight away from the Sun and the yellowish dust tail curving away along
its orbit.

What has come to existence since these two comets is directly related to Rudolf
Steiner’s warnings regarding the future seizure of human shadowy intelligence and it is
manifested in a number of phenomena which work together inextricably:

At around this time:

• The Internet began to influence all facets of life.

• The rise in use of ‘spiders’ and ‘bot’s to browse the ‘web’ acquiring data for
statistical information.

• The use of Artificial Intelligence in logistics data mining, medical diagnosis,

stock market predictions.

• Satellites populating the skies.

• The commercialisation of the WWW – no man may buy or sell…

• Google was incorporated.

• Apple brought out its first Imac.

• A Japanese firm released the first smartphones.

• Since then Facebook was launched, Youtube, Twitter, instagram so on…

• Since 2001 War and destruction.

• Environmental disasters.

When we look at the technology today, we can say with some confidence that this is the
realm of Sorath, in particular the internet and computers. For on the internet, we have
all of human intellectuality trapped in a subnatural world. Satan/Sorath has achieved his
aim with great speed and has become as Rudolf Steiner has said, the most
Comprehensive owner of intellectuality. Intelligence is bought and sold to the highest
bidder to achieve certain outcomes. It uses that marriage of the science of statistics
with the science of psychology that Rudolf Steiner warned against. Because by applying
this marriage to every aspect of human life, human intelligence is seized from the soul
and what weaves between human beings is no longer light, life and warmth but darkness,
death and coldness.

In Rudolf Steiner’s day he said that in the realm of statistics Satan had broken
loose…one only needs to watch the proceedings of the Congressional Hearings on
Facebook etc, to see how far this has come.

But none of this would be possible without Google and its ‘spiders’ or ‘bots’ which crawl
the web and which collect information about the users of the internet whose intelligence
is carefully stored in the cloud as statistical information for those who want it. Soon
with facial recognition no one human being will be able to ‘hide’ from these beings.

Moreover, Facebook, twitter etc, brings human beings together in ‘groups’ in which ‘new’
Ahrimanic group souls can exist, where the intellect is even more efficiently detached
from human souls, since it works in what should live between human beings, what is
usually shared between friends, our likes dislikes, loves, hopes fears etc.

‘So groupings will form, despite the fact that in the age of individuality - in what is actually the Christian age –
everything that is individual is what would be salutary for humanity. Groups will form, but these groups must
be removed from danger in which they will find themselves. A time will come when the satanic power will have
made great efforts to win over humanity’s power of intelligence and when this satanic power will have grown so
great that I will approach all the groups that have formed: so the situation will really arise in which Satan’s
power will work into all the four corners of the world. These groups- smaller ones Gog and larger ones Magog
will be expose to temptation and seduction by the satanic power.’ 27

One might say the internet and the world wide web is an image of the seven headed
beast and the image of the beast is the computer into which Sorath breathes, so that it
can speak with his voice.

There is a Jewish legend in which a Golem, a being, is created from dirt (mineral
substance) in an image of a man. It was believed that golems could be ‘activated’ by an
ecstatic experience induced by the ritualistic use of various letters of the Hebrew
Alphabet forming a ‘shem’ which means any of the names of God. This was then inserted
in the mouth of the image created of clay or placed on the forehead.

Might this Golem not be the computer device?

Might one of these names not be W.W.W.

In some traditions a golem is inscribed with Hebrew words emet or ‘truth’ written on its
forehead. The golem could then be deactivated by removing the Aleph changing the
inscription from "truth" to "death" – meaning the law of destruction is the reversal of
the law of creation. In other words…every lie is like a ‘killing’ in the Astral World.

In the realm of the internet-web, which we access through our devices, we are in the
realm of the shadow of truth, which is a lie, a lie in the spiritual world is death. The
shadow of the Cosmic intellilgence or the Divine Sophia is the Whore of Babylon.

We have heard about the fall of the beasts and of Satan, but there is another fall, the
Fall of Babylon, the corruption of human souls through magic is imaged forth by the
Book of Revelations as a woman riding the beast with the seven heads and ten crowns.
She represents the corrupted human soul – the human soul whose intelligence has been
seized by the Beast and become corrupted and who must go where the Beast takes her.

The internet is just the beginning of what Rudolf Steiner called, Ahriman’s school of
magic, a materialised clairvoyance where what we see is really tailored to our needs by
search engines, through the statistical information which has been gathered from our
intelligence.

‘When Ahriman incarnates in the West at the appointed time, he would establish a great occult school for the
practice of magic arts of the greatest grandeur, and what otherwise can be acquired only by strenuous effort
would be poured over mankind. Let it never be imagined that Ahriman will appear as a kind of hoaxer, playing
mischievous tricks on human beings. No, indeed ! Lovers of ease who refuse to have anything to do with
spiritual science, would fall prey to his magic, for by means of these stupendous magic arts he would be able to
make great numbers of human beings into seers — but in such a way that the clairvoyance of each individual

would be strictly differentiated. What one person would see, a second and a third would not see. Confusion
would prevail and in spite of being made receptive to clairvoyant wisdom, men would inevitably fall into strife
on account of the sheer diversity of their visions. Ultimately, however, they would all be satisfied with their
own particular vision, for each of them would be able to see into the spiritual world. In this way all culture on
the earth would fall prey to Ahriman.’28

It is true that we simply take for granted what is obvious. Imagine how in another time
what we take for granted might be considered a terrible magic: imagine if you showed a
person in the middle ages a smart phone? You would end up being burnt at the stake!

For it is a form of magic to be able to see what is happening on the other side of the
world just by pressing a button. This is a parody of what Rudolf Steiner tells us will be
an ability on the future Vulcan

“On Vulcan the spirit is completely detached; he has then taken the etheric body also with him. This condition

endows man with an exact knowledge of the entire world.”

Right now we can conjure up music or images from any part of the world, just by moving
our hands. Information on anything in the world can be found in a second, any book in the
world can be ‘kindled’ to life. But we can’t however, know if what we are seeing is true or
even real because everything on the Internet has been detached from life, from the
individual, from what weaves between human beings, and in this sense it is a lie – and
when it is detached from the spirit of the human being who has created it one cannot
judge what lives in it.

In the future humanity will find itself not merely unable to know the difference
between what is true and what is not, but what is the true reality! For not only one but
many realms of ‘virtual’ reality or a realms that paradoxically are devoid of ‘virtue’ and
of reality, will exist.

Human intelligence being imprisoned on the Internet is only the beginning. The dead
intelligence, which is the shadow of the cosmic intelligence, is like the shell discarded by
the snail, but at this stage it can still be used for good, but how it is used is up to us.

To write this lecture I have used a computer connected by Wi-Fi to the Internet. I have
searched using a web browser.

Technology can be used to benefit humanity, by making life easier, by connecting us with
like minded people and also to disseminate information…it is what we do with it the
information that counts. Rudolf Steiner tells us that the saga of Prometheus is the saga
of our times.

Prometheus was the Titan who angered the Gods by bringing the fire down to humanity.
Fire can kill, but fire is also necessary for life, it is this paradox that cannot be

understood by the adversarial powers, who, no matter how powerful they are, are not
able to grasp paradoxes. 30

It was fire – a force of transformation, which enabled human beings to create tools.
With these tools we have transformed the mineral Earth and we have started to
transform the living plant world in such a way that has served us, but for every upward
step, we have taken a downward one, for instance we have also misused the dead forces
of the plant in coal and oil and gas to create electricity which correspond to fallen light
ether. We have discovered magnetism which corresponds to fallen Chemical ether, we
have discovered and misused those powers that belong to the lowest levels of the sub-
earthly ethers and which in the upper reaches belongs to life and in the lower ones
belong to destruction and death.

For just as all the good in the world is connected to the forces of transformation, so is
all evil in the world connected to its misuse. The Transubstantiation is the highest
expression of these forces of love which can transform the bread and wine into the
body and blood of Christ, but the misuse of these forces for selfish aims is at the
foundation of all black magic and was responsible for the destruction of Lemuria by Fire
and Atlantis by water and the end of the Great 5th Post Atlantean Epoch this misuse is
destined to end it through air. Because what is being used or misused? Elemental beings
and spirits! What will happen if we ignore the Vulcan beings, the Michael spirits of the
sphere between the Moon and Mercy who are descending from the realms of the higher
ethers to help us? They will also fall into the temptation of the adversaries. And where
the lower nature spirits are connected to all that wants to multiply, the beings of the
higher ethers are connected to all that seeks to form a unity.

‘What we have considered so far amounts to one aspect of what in the future threatens mankind. There is
another aspect — just as the lower elements of earth, water and air are inhabited by elemental beings, so are
the higher elements of light ether, chemical ether and life ether. However, these beings of the higher
elements differ considerably from those of the lower ones. The beings of light, and particularly those of life,
do not aim at becoming multitudes. The ones who strive the most to become multitudes are the beings of the

earth element. The beings of the etheric element strive rather towards unity...If these beings are
disregarded by man — i.e., if he does not turn to spiritual knowledge and the insight that what exists up in the
sky is not merely the physical sun, but that with the sun's warmth and light etheric beings stream down to
earth; if man's comprehension stops at the external material aspect, then the possibility exists that these
beings will unite with ahrimanic powers. In order for the earth to become what it was originally intended to
become, man must wake up to the dangers that threaten from both sides — on the one hand, the danger that
those beings who dwell in the lower elements will join forces with ahrimanic powers, and on the other, that the
ahrimanic powers will unite with those of the higher elements in their striving for unity.’31

‘But now we live at a time when the intellect has begun to decline within the civilized world; it is failing into
decadence. If mankind does not become receptive to what streams towards him from the spiritual world, then
the result of this dullness on man's part will be — and there are signs already of it happening — that these
elemental beings will gather together to form a kind of union and place themselves under the leadership of the
supreme intellectual power: Ahriman.’

Elemental beings no matter whether they are lower or higher do not have an ego, that is
why the Vulcan beings must develop through us. They need us to help them to become
moral, but if we ignore them they fall into Ahrimanic temptation. The task of the nature
spirits is/was to bring into our souls the Spirit that lives locked inside all the things of
the world up to the Moon Sphere, since 1879 many of them have fallen into the
seduction of the adversarial powers. The elemental spirits of ‘iron necessity’ the bring
us the influences of the spirit of the fallen spirits of Lucifer, Ahriman and Asuras from
the sphere between the Moon and the Anti-Moon (the Eighth Sphere), have caused the
Anti Moon to rise up into the sphere of the earth since 1879.

One need only think of all that is connected to Atomic power.

It is this which has necessitated that the Elemental Spirits of the higher ethers or the
Planetary elemental spirits enter Earth evolution to bring to us the Spirit from the
realm above the Earth and beyond the Moon Sphere. But even the planetary elementary
spirits are being systematically ignored, and like the elemental beings of nature will fall
into the ‘hands’ of humans who either out of ignorance or through a cold calculation,
place them in the service of the adversarial powers who work for Sorath.

In the future a war will ensue between white and black magicians those who wield either
the good or the evil elemental spirits: the Christened Michael spirits or the Sorathic
spirits of darkness, until finally the evil race will be conquered by the Christ race and
the Sorath race will separate from the Venus Earth as denizens of that anti-moon, the
8th Sphere. If all goes according to plan on distant Vulcan, human beings will then be
devoid of immorality and will be in the position to become progressive Planetary beings
with all of Creation as their responsibility, just as the being of Rotation of Times is now.

"Everything contained within these two streams — and the third stream, also — is actually resting
unconsciously in the depths of our being. And now, on Earth, the sphere we can call the sphere of morality is
beginning. It will be completed on Vulcan." 32

The Importance of Day and Night – Life and Death

But we must consider something else. It is of utmost importance what the human being

wills and thinks in the day, for it has a direct effect on what he detaches from himself
and what he connects with at night.

For at night what is evil in the human being and becomes detached from human thinking
feeling and will, are those very beings, Phantoms Ghost and Demons which whirr about
the world causing havoc. Paradoxically in the day, the human being walks about the earth
and his centre of gravity in the metabolic system is connected directly with the forces
of destruction which belong to the centre of the Earth and which connects with the 8th
sphere and the elemental beings of destruction – what he does in the day has a
relevance for what happens at night, what is detached and what is united:

When man takes into himself the substances of the outer world, it is his will that actually digests and works
upon these substances. And if nothing else were in operation, then what is taken into the organism from
outside would simply be destroyed. The human will has the power to dissolve and destroy all extraneous
substances and forces; and the relation between man and the mineral, plant and animal kingdoms of nature to-
day is such that his will is connected with the forces of dissolution and destruction inherent in our planet.

Were it not for the human intelligence having a connection to the spiritual worlds at
night, the moral upbuilding forces that the Earth needs would not enter it by way of
human souls, to revivify the elemental beings of nature and we can see that this is
happening today when we look around us.

‘The upbuilding forces lie in mankind as a whole, actually in the pole of intelligence in man's being but not in his
waking intelligence. Waking intelligence is really like a lifeless entity thrusting itself into earth-evolution. The
intelligence that works, unconsciously to man, during his sleep — that is what builds up the earth-planet. By
this I am only trying to explain that it is a fallacy to look outside the human being for the destructive and the
constructive forces of our earth; you must look for them within the human being. Once you grasp this, what I
am now going to say will not be unintelligible.’

The nature elemental beings are falling. The Vulcan beings, the elemental spirits have
come to the rescue do not belong to the Earth are worried, they need to evolve through
us, but only if we develop a new kind of thinking. But if we digest them unconsciously it
will create more dense centres of gravity in our souls through which the adversarial
beings can bring about the Destruction of the Earth.

‘This is the secret of that march into materialism which began about the year 1840, or rather was then in
active preparation. Those who do not receive the spiritual through their souls, receive it to-day none the less:
in eating and drinking they eat and drink the spirit. They are “eaters” of the soul-and-spirit.’33

We must understand that all the destruction we see in the world, all madness,
nervousness, shedding of blood, all the horror of war all, all terrorism, all the
degradation of love between human beings, all the immoral devastation of nature, all
murder, paedophilia, all lies and social unrest, all disease and all the destructive forces
of nature against human beings, comes from this one singular explanation: Human beings
are unconscious of what weaves between them and what weaves between them and
nature.

The Vulcan beings bring to us the spirit that can reconnect us with Christ – the ‘body’
the ‘ground’ of Spiritual Science - which can help us to bring the destructive forces in

human beings under human conscious control so that the effect at night is that a
balance is brought about by the upbuilding moral forces as opposed to the imbalance
that the Asuras/Satan – the backward Dynamis would like to create.

Whether the Earth goes on to its further evolution as Jupiter Venus and Vulcan,
depends or whether we evolve or whether we allow the Earth, through our actions and
thoughts, to become fused with the 8th sphere so that the Earth is derailed from its
intended course or whether enough people take up the work of becoming conscious of
the spirit. It is up to us. The future and the future of all the beings that rely upon the
Earth for their advancement depends on whether human beings are capable of using
their will in such a way that it can connect to the spirit though the faculty of thought so
as to wrest from Lucifer Ahriman Asuras and Sorath what they wish to seize – Earth
Evolution itself. The question is can we put our will to work in order to use the tools
Ahriman brings for the benefit of humanity or will we simply pull the covers over our
heads and fall into a fearful doze?

It would be as impossible to escape technology today, as it would be to return to

Lemurian times. We have evolved, the world has evolved, nature has not stood still, what
is beneath our feet, what is above our heads, what is in our blood, our breath has
changed. We have to live in this world whether we like it or not because we need it to
progress. Lucifer would have us leave the Earth as premature angels. Ahriman would
have us unite with the earth in such a way that we never become spiritual. But we are in
this world only insofar that we progress in order to enter as fully fledged spiritual
beings in higher worlds, so we must not only spiritualise our souls but also our physical
bodies!

The mystery of the human physical body is guarded by the great hidden Vulcan Initiate
Scythianos as we mentioned earlier – in the mysteries of Hibernia Bran the Blessed is
his representative. His Mysteries have to do with the spiritualisation of the physical
body into a Temple for Christ. For just as Christ spiritualised the body of Jesus so must
we spiritualise our physical bodies for Christ. But Christ did not merely return Jesus’
body to its former glory, He spiritualised it into something higher than what was
formerly intended!

Alpha became Omega.

The Transformation of the Astral body = Manas/Spirit Self

The Transformation of the Etheric body = Buddhi/Life Spirit
The Transformation of the Physical body = Atma/Spirit Man

The mystery underlying this ‘transformation’ of the spiritual body into Atma (breath) is
this: we are not what we eat. We are what we think. That is the mystery underlying the
transubstantiation of the Bread to the Body of Christ – the living spirit.

We need only remember that a thought can make us blush or make us pale, it can make
our blood pulse faster or slower, it can quicken our breathing. Our thoughts not only in
one life but in future lives have a physical effect, they enter right down into our bones -
to eventually create a new physical body.

Our thoughts, what we create whether these are buildings, art, laws, social conditions,
or our own bodies, will bring to birth elemental beings which become detached from us
and whirl around the world. If our thoughts are filled with the spirit that lives as a
‘body’ of Spiritual Science, they will be good elemental beings who will become the human
beings of the future, if they are abstract shadowy thoughts, they will be elemental
beings that fall prey to Sorath and his minions and will populate the earth as spidery
beings that have their existence between the realm of plants and minerals. We see this
already on the drawing board: the unification of computers with organic life – minerals
with plants to bring about something in between.

‘The human will is threatened with being deprived of spiritual impulses and with becoming involved in the
spidery web that will creep over the earth. There are men in existence who imagine that they will gain their
ends by promoting their own spiritual development and leaving the rest of their fellow-beings in a state of
ignorance. But the vast majority live in complete unawareness of the terrible destiny that awaits them if they
lend themselves to what an ancient form of spiritual knowledge called the “sixteen paths to corruption.” For
just as there are many ways in which the shadowy intellect may be directed to the impulses and knowledge
coming from the spiritual world, so naturally there are many ways in which varieties of the shadowy intellect
will be able to unite with the spider-beings who will spin their web over the earth in times to come. Intellect
will then be objectivised in the very limbs and tentacles of these spidery creatures, who in all their wonderful
inter-weavings and caduceus-like convolutions will present an amazing network of intricate forms.’34

So when Rudolf Steiner tells us that the future depends on whether enough human
beings can develop a strong spirituality, he really is speaking about a Christ love. For only
Christ love is capable of countering the anti spiritual forces, the anti-social forces
working in the world.

It is for this reason that the Vulcan spirits have come to help us to change our thinking,
to bring to us what lives in the higher ethers through a new breathing in, a breathing in
of light and we must take physical perception as a starting point.

We can begin by developing an awareness of what we take into ourselves with every
perception. And the one who helps us here is Lucifer. For everything we see is
permeated with his ‘light’ and this light enters into us, we breathe it in through our eyes
and it creates an impression in the etheric body like a seal on wax.

Let us recapitulate what we stated before about the rose. We see a rose and when we
do we experience two things, which occur almost simultaneously but not quite only we
rarely notice it: We see the red rose, for instance, and at the same time, inside us, the
green rose is lighting up in our etheric bodies. This spiritual is the spiritual elemental
nature of the rose which Michael casts down into our blood – just as he cast down the
spirits of darkness from the spiritual world in 1879 to the Earth, and just as every
Autumn he enacts the same mystery to clear the etheric world.

Why?

He does this for the sake of our free perception and thinking both in the spiritual world
and in our own souls.

Intellectual thinking is only a mirroring – a shadowy reflection which was necessary for
freedom and wisdom. Etheric Perception sees the green rose, which is the genesis of all

thinking and is necessary if we are to make our way from wisdom to love.

By using this moment we become aware of what lights up in our souls (wisdom) this
wisdom is transformed to (love) or consciousness. When we use this consciousness as a
guide, we can gain an understanding for the truth of the etheric body, where it is
located. We also gain an understanding of ourselves, and how we colour what we see
because we have undigested elemental beings living in us! When we meet a person then,
we can look inwardly to observe how inside us their light has been imprinted and this
conscious love is a new social art. For what is this light that weaving between human
beings becomes imprinted in the soul? It is the spirit brought to us by the Elemental
Spirits of Vulcan.

Pneumatosophy means to breathe in the soul and spirit of the ‘other’. This spirit of
Wisdom in the soul is the Holy Spirit light that kindled in us, lights up, in the sphere
where Christ dwells - our etheric bodies. Now we find the Christ Spirit!

This is the New Whitsuntide Festival that occurs every time we come together with
another human being. That is why we are told that Christ is among us when we unite two
or more people. Christ is known inwardly only through the ‘other’ and it is through us
that the Holy Spirit and the Father Spirit are united once again with Him.

In this sense we are our Brother’s Keepers!

When this etheric vision is turned outwardly, it enables us to see Christ in the Etheric.
This Christ we see in the etheric, is really the Christ that lives in us, for our etheric
body is always one with the etheric world.

This is how Wisdom is transformed to Love when Christ Love becomes imbued with
Cosmic Wisdom. This is the Mystery of the Holy Grail.

Parzifal was the first human being to develop the Consciousness Soul ahead of humanity
for a Revelation of Christ through the other – ‘What ails thee brother?’

Anfortas was the human being ailing through demonic elementals, Parzifal brings him the
healing cure, the Grail or the soul consciousness of Christ.

In our time all of us are tasked with preparing the Temple to which the forces of evil no
longer have access, where communion occurs in the cup of the soul through
consciousness or Revelation – Holy Grail.

That is the relationship between the Consciousness Soul and the Physical body – the
Grail sits on the book of Revelations and both are safe inside the Temple or tabernacle.

But our consciousness of Christ can only come by way of our meeting with the Beast as
we stated at the beginning. That is why the Beast had to raise his head before Christ
could be seen in the Etheric. The Second Mystery of Golgotha had to occur, where the
Angel of Christ had to lose his Christ Consciousness through a pollution of the etheric
world, because only through such a sacrifice, which occurred because the beast was
rising into the souls of human beings, could enable Christ’s etheric manifestation.
One remembers that Prometheus was released from his terrible fate on the caucus,
where his liver (his etheric body) was gnawed at by a vulture (Astral body), by Hercules
the initiate, and only then because Chiron, the half man half animal sacrificed himself.
The whole of the Fifth Post Atlantean Epoch is characterised by this saga because we
must sacrifice our animal nature and become initiates if we are to use the ‘Fire’ of the
spirit without destroying the etheric body.

‘…you will discover that the most important ones for our epoch are the relationships with the etheric and
astral principles.’ 35

The beast or the animal infected with demonic elementals must be sacrificed (Chiron) –
the astral element, must be purified – this simply means that through initiation a
catharsis must occur through the auspices of the Holy Spirit in the soul.

Through Michael’s thrusting down of the spirits of darkness, a sphere in the human head
and in the spiritual world were left free for us to find Christ again through our own
striving. And it is Christ Himself who is the only Being who can counter Sorath.

But there is more to this mystery. At that time when the Moon unites with the Earth
many human beings will be caught in the materialised web on earth, they will lose their
‘I’. Only those who have worked to free their souls from their physical body will be able
to retain their ‘I’. Some of those, the Manicheans will descend to earth to sacrifice
their consciousness of Christ, their Christ ‘I’s for those who are perishing to save them.
This is at the heart of the mysterious mention of Christian Rosencreutz suffering the
greatest sacrifice that a human being can suffer, for those who have failed to elaborate
their ‘I’. He and his hosts will descend to earth and sacrifice even their ‘I’, their Christ
consciousness on behalf of others.

Already one can see that destiny works in such a way that those who live in places like
Australia, are not facing the terrible wars and destruction that other places experience.
Then there are those who will enter into these wars to risk their lives to help human
beings…doctors, nurses etc.

Destiny gives us ‘peace’ in lieu of our work on behalf of humanity, so that in the future
we have something to sacrifice. Because in the future it will not be places in the world,
which will be devoid of war and horror…but only places in the spiritual world, where we
will we find the up-building forces that can be brought down to earth to help those who
have fallen behind through materialism and are living in a realm of destruction.

May we remember the promises that we have made.

The elemental spirits hear it… may human beings hear it.

The Internet and the shadow of the Nine Layers of the Earth:

The First layer = hardware - mineral layer

The Second layer = software, fluid ware, imbued with illusion.

The Third layer = is that aspect in which feeling is destroyed - 'objectivity' without
heart, information without conscience.

The Fourth layer = Virtual Reality - where everything is turned into its negative
opposite, where Virtue in the heart which leads to seeing spiritually and hearing
spiritually becomes Virtual 'seeing and hearing' without heart, a form of electro-
magnetic occultism. A misuse of Sun Forces.

The Fifth layer = Unlimited growth - an unlimited labyrinth or galleries or pages in which
exists an 'eternal' infinite, timeless supply of information and misinformation occurring
in the realm of 'space' or the realm of the finite. Information that can't be digested
consciously and must be digested automatically - this is the opposite of the Akasha
chronicles - its etheric counterpart is the Google 'cloud'. This is how a part of the ego
becomes 'trapped' in the pages of matter - the negative Akasha, in the infinite space of
the internet. In the future through things like the 'I' mac and 'I' phone and other more
sophisticated means that will become more and more organic and their interconnections,
every detail related to the human I, its movements, friendships, thoughts, concerns will
eventually be broken away from the soul and stored and trapped in this sphere. This is
the layer in which FB lives, youtube, web pages, My 'space', Twitter, Instagram.

The Sixth Layer = the layer of Sensation - here we find what stirs up the animal
passions which live subconsciously in the will - the realm of everything that is 'sensual'.
Sensational stories, videos, news etc, bigotted, racist, stirring up of hatred, fear, doubt,
anger. The cause of riots and war etc will all be electronic.

The Seventh Layer = Complements. Here is where everything is dual – everything turns
to its opposite. The realm of the binary on and off - life and death.

The Eighth Layer = Here everything is multiplied – endless copies of everything that
enters here is re-produced – one might say like bacilli and viruses re-produce in a parody
of cellular division – though here something is reproduced which lives between minerals
and plants. A fragmentation of good and a multiplication of evil, which leads to
destruction of life – Nuclear Fission.
The Ninth layer = Here lives the negative 'I' the False ego - the secret of Black Magic.
The lowest forces of immorality. Where the forces of sacrifice are turned to their
opposite - forces of sacrificial 'magic'. This is related to 666 - Sorath – which connects
the automatic intelligence in human beings with rampant sexual forces living in the will,
leading to a prostitution of the will through pornography, sexual violence, rape, hatred,
and a negative relationship to the spirit 'child' born in the soul - the higher ego - whose
negative manifestation is seen in paedophilia and sacrificial rituals involving children.
