s-a văzut...
Le fierbi încet doar la lumina lunii,
Cu inima la iubit...
Cicoarea-ţi va spune cât.
Să bei sfios puţin câte puţin,
Cu buze ţuguiate
Şi cu inima la iubit...
Şi-acum, rupte-s făcăturile duşmancei
Şi pustiită ţi-e neliniştea iubirii!...

Carrefully take five flowers of blue chicory,

Four chamomile flowers,
Three leaves of white birch,
Two twigs of southernwood,
And a bloody flower of field poppy.
Lovingly put them in water in which the full moon
was seen…
Gently boil them at moonlight only,
Your heart thinking at your loved one…
The chicory will tell you how long.
With coyness drink little by little,
With bee-stung lips
Your heart thinking at your loved one…
And now, broken are enemy’s spells
And empty is therestlessness of love!...

Tu, în văzut, vezi nevăzutul

Şi inima Ta tremură de dragul altei inimi...
Surâzi când eşti în suferinţă
Şi niciodată râsul tău batjocură nu este.
Toată ştiinţa lumii cu-ale ei legi fixe,
Un zâmbet îţi aduce ţie,
Căci inima ta tot adevărul este...
Dar tu eşti om...
Şi suferi şi vie e inima ta...
De-aceea strigă:
Înapoia mea făţarnico-ngâmfată,

Cu căpăţână râioasă de broască bulbucată,

Căci eu sunt viaţă

Şi calea Mea mereu o ţin deschisă lumii

Odată şi pe sfânt l-am întrebat
Despre-ajungerea la taină...
Sfântul mie mi-a zâmbit
Şi s-a-ntors către-ajutor:
- Tu fecior frumos şi-nalt eşti,
Să te faci popă!...
Odat-am vrut şi talisman,
Tot spre-ajungerea la taină...
Dar călugăru-a strigat:
- Nu pune mîna, doar te uită,
Tu nu cumperi!...
Mai s-ajungă
Şi să mă plesnească peste mână;
M-aşteaptă Muntele...

Towards its mystery I climbed

Many times
Once I even entered its hole,
Towards the mystery…
And it always told me:
- Go back
And return when I’ll call you!...
Once I had helpers
Once I asked the saint
About reaching the mystery…
The saint smiled to me
And turned to my helper:
- You tall handsome lad,
Become a priest!...
Once I wanted a lucky charm
To also reach the mystery…
But the monk shouted:
- Don’t touch, just look,
You don’t buy!...
Nearly slapped my hand;
The Mountain awaits me…

The French always sing Marseillaise,
The Germans sit on Thor’s hammer.
The Arabs are medicine students
And they have their own thing…
Africa is black,
Italy is sunny and it has Rome.
The Iberians went over the ocean.
The Americans are free to count their money.
The Hungarians are our friends in Transylvania,
Whilst the rest from Puszta, which would be Hun
lineage, we have no idea…
The Vietnamese fought the Americans.
The Bulgarians are beyond Danube.

Grecii au făcut filosofie, au fost cu Macedon,
Au insule, au fost şi bizantini şi ni-s aproape
vecini.
Norvegia e-o ţară ciudată de varegi.
Cu sârbii am fost cândva prieteni buni
Şi-odată cehoaicele veneau la Marea Neagră.
Noaptea în Vilnius balticii cântă pe stradă.
Albanezii pare că ni-s neamuri,
Polonezii parcă ne privesc de sus.
Turcii ni-s prieteni, deşi cândva ne-am urât.
Austriecii-s de fel nemţi şi-odată ziceau
Că împăratul lor ne apără de turci.
Englezii sunt lorzi,
Japonezii îşi caută samuraii,
Iar noi ce ne zicem români avem două ţări:
România şi-o parte-a Moldovei ce-odată am dat-o

During the night, the Baltics sing on the street.
The Albanians seems like our relatives,
The Polish looks like they patronize us.
The Turks are our friends, even though we once hated
each other.
The Austrians are German kind and they used to say
That their emperor protects us from Turks.
The English are lords,
The Japanese are looking for their samurai,
Whilst us calling ourselves Romanians have two
countries:
Romania and part of Moldavia that we once gave to the
Russians.

Fântâna vieţii

Orientat şi dezorientat,
Pe drumul prăfos de pământ arămiu,
Mergeam nemulţumit;
Cu mulţi orbi şi muţi surzi ce se înghesuie
Toţi în aceiaşi direcţie...
Deodată, pe drumul acesta larg de pământ,
Din colbul arămiu, mi s-a arătat
Fântâna vieţii...
Fix în acest drum prăfos,
Fix în calea mea
Este fântâna vieţii!...
Şi nu mai vreau să merg
Laolaltă cu orbi muţi ce se duc
Făr-a şti unde se duc,
Şi pe care nu-i cunosc...
Stau jos sprijinit de fântână,
Şi-ntors spre începutul drumului prăfos,
Privesc în zarea arămie
Să văd venind prin colbul arămiu
Pe cineva drag ...

The Fountain of Life

Oriented and disoriented,

On the dusty road of copper-colored clay,
I was walking unsatisfied;
Along with many blind and deaf and mute men
cluttering
All in the same direction…
All of a sudden, on this wide clay road,
Out of the copper-colored dust, it appeared to me
The fountain of life…
Right on this dusty road,
Right in front of me
There’s the fountain of life!..
And I don’t want to walk anymore
Along with blind mute men going
Without knowing where,
And which I do not know…
I sit down leaning against the fountain,
With my face turned at the beginning of the dusty road,
I look at the copper-colored horizon
To see through the copper-colored dust the arrival
Of a dear one…

Poate pe-aici nu mai sunt oameni
Sau poate că-s răi
Şi-aici nu se mai poate trăi;
Sau poate doar ai dorit
De neatins să-ţi fie
Minunatul tău chip...
