INTRODUCERE
Ne bucurm c ai ales Cursul EUROCOR de Englez nivel intermediar! Acest curs se adreseaz persoanelor care au terminat modulul de englez pentru nceptori EUROCOR, precum i tuturor celor care au studiat anterior aceast limb (de la un an la doi ani) i doresc s continue studiul la un nivel mai avansat. Obiectivul principal al cursului nostru este s dobndii fluen n comunicare i s deprindei totodat n mod corect regulile gramaticale, ajutndu-v s v dezvoltai abilitile lingvistice (citire, nelegerea unui text ascultat, vorbire i scriere), indispensabile pentru o bun comunicare n limba englez. Graie folosirii diverselor tehnici de nvare i modalitii de prezentare a informaiilor, dar i datorit indicaiilor referitoare la studiu, vei face rapid progrese la nvtur.

C IE TR AT IV

Leciile acestui curs reflect limba englez contemporan, limba vorbit. Vei lectura astfel articole din presa englez, teme interesante din viaa de zi cu zi, dar vei audia i cntece englezeti, pe baza crora vom discuta despre anumite chestiuni gramaticale i lexicale. Rezultatele eforturilor dvs. le vei putea verifica prin intermediul temei pentru acas, care va fi corectat i evaluat de profesorul dvs. personal. Structura leciilor Studiul eficient al cursului nostru este garantat de structura didactic unitar a caietelor. Fiecare caiet este constituit din dou lecii, care se axeaz pe principalele elemente n studiul limbii: citire (Reading), gramatic (Grammar Lab), comunicare (Communication), ascultare (Listening), vorbire (Speaking). De mare ajutor v va fi n studiul individual filtrul rou, pe care l putei folosi acolo unde vei ntlni text scris cu rou, de exemplu n unele exerciii sau atunci cnd nvai i repetai cuvintele noi. Vei acoperi cu filtrul fragmentele selectate, iar dup ce vei rspunde singur la ntrebri, l vei da la o parte pentru a verifica apoi corectitudinea rspunsurilor pe care le-ai dat. Studiind limba englez la Eurocor, hotri singur unde i ct de des vei nva. Materialul , inserat pe unui caiet este planificat pentru o perioad de studiu de o lun. Simbolul margine, indic momentul cnd v putei opri din studiu pentru a relua mai trziu, fr ca pauza s fie un impediment n procesul de nvare. Modul de organizare a cursului Englez nivel intermediar


Obiectivele didactice naintea fiecrei lecii putei afla ce abiliti vei dobndi dup ce vei termina de parcurs materialul leciilor. Mai trziu, putei reveni asupra lor, bifnd noiunile pe care le-ai nvat. Fiecare lecie ncepe cu o mic nclzire, care are scopul de a v introduce n subiectul leciei. Prezint elementele de gramatic, precum i exerciii care au menirea de a consolida noile cunotine acumulate. O subseciune cuprinznd informaii i exerciii menite s asigure deprinderea unei bune pronunii n limba englez. Seciune consacrat comunicrii lingvistice. Introduce un nou vocabular i ncurajeaz exersarea acestuia ntr-un context corespunztor. Sunt exerciii care urmresc dezvoltarea abilitilor de ascultare, citire, vorbire i scriere. Adeseori, aceste abiliti sunt dezvoltate mpreun, de exemplu: ascultarea i vorbirea (listening and speaking), citirea i scrierea (reading and writing). Este prezent n fiecare a doua lecie a caietului. Seciunea prezint rile unde engleza este limb oficial, precum i diversele aspecte culturale, indispensabile pentru folosirea abil a limbii engleze. Sunt seciuni care sintetizeaz la un loc toate informaiile gramaticale introduse pe parcursul unei anumite lecii. Tema pentru acas este o modalitate de verificare i consolidare a cunotinelor dobndite pe parcursul celor dou lecii ale caietului. Se recomand efectuarea temei dup parcurgerea integral a leciilor. Tema poate fi rezolvat direct n formularul special sau online i trimis spre corectare profesorului personal. Ofer rspunsurile corecte la exerciiile din lecii. Transcrierea nregistrrilor audio permite reproducerea dialogurilor care nu figureaz scriptic n lecie, dar care se gsesc pe CD-ul ce nsoete fiecare caiet. Dicionarul cuprinde toate cuvintele noi prezente n leciile caietului, traducerea acestora i transcrierea fonetic, redat cu ajutorul Alfabetului Fonetic Internaional (IPA).

nvarea oricrei limbi strine ncepe cu alfabetul i pronunia sunetelor ei distinctive. Pentru transcrierea fonetic, cursul folosete Alfabetul Fonetic Internaional (International Phonetic Alphabet IPA). Pentru a v fi mai uor, am redat n tabel similitudinile sunetelor englezeti cu cele romneti.

Lecia 1

Pronunia
Spre deosebire de limba romn, unde cuvintele se scriu i se citesc asemenea, n limba englez modul n care se pronun un cuvnt difer considerabil de forma lui grafic. Cel mai indicat este s deprindei pronunia corect ascultnd i repetnd de cteva ori cuvintele i propoziiile nregistrate pe CD-ul pe care vi-l punem la dispoziie. Dac uneori vei dori s nvai doar din caiet, putei deprinde uor pronunia corect a cuvintelor cu ajutorul transcrierii fonetice care nsoete vocabularul leciilor. Tocmai de aceea este att de important s v familiarizai cu alfabetul fonetic internaional IPA. Datorit acestuia vei putea citi fr vreun ajutor cuvintele englezeti nu numai din leciile noastre, ci i din dicionarele de limb englez. Aceast abilitate v va fi de un real folos i n timpul nvrii altor limbi strine. Pentru a nva s citii simbolurile IPA, va trebui s ascultai cu atenie nregistrrile, urmrind simultan n caiet transcrierea fonetic a cuvintelor pronunate de profesor. n tabelele de mai jos sunt redate sunetele cu ajutorul alfabetului IPA. n primul tabel sunt redate vocalele, n cel de-al doilea consoanele. Alturi de fiecare sunet este indicat un exemplu de cuvnt n care apare sunetul respectiv, transcrierea fonetic a acelui cuvnt i modul n care este produs sunetul n cauz, adeseori prin compararea lui cu fonemele limbii romne. Fiecare sunet va fi discutat i exersat n seciunea Pronunciation (pronunia) a fiecrui caiet. Ori de cte ori vei avea ndoieli cu privire la modul n care se pronun un cuvnt, putei apela cu ncredere la tabelele prezentate aici. Iat alfabetul fonetic IPA cu mprirea pe vocale i consoane:

Ai nvat deja din Cursul de Englez nceptori care este diferena ntre timpurile Present Simple i Present Continuous. n exemplele de mai sus, Present Simple se folosete cu referire la meseria exercitat, n timp ce Present Continuous exprim o activitate concret, care este svrit exact n momentul cnd se vorbete despre ea (sau ntr-un moment foarte apropiat de momentul vorbirii). 18

Gramatica este o cale sigur de a nva corect o limb strin. n cursul nostru nu vei gsi niruiri de informaii teoretice, ce ar putea fi plictisitoare, ci prezentri succinte, menite s v ajute n asimilarea rapid a regulilor gramaticale. Iat un fragment din seciunea Grammar Lab.

Despre gramatica limbii engleze se spune c este destul de uoar. Totui, una dintre dificultile fundamentale pe care le ridic const n diferenierea timpurilor gramaticale. n lecia aceasta vom reflecta asupra diferenelor dintre timpul trecut simplu, numit, aa cum bine tii, Past Simple, i timpul trecut continuu Past Continuous. nainte de a trece la o analiz amnunit a ambelor timpuri, citii cu atenie i comparai propoziiile de mai jos: When he met her, he travelled to America. W When he met her, he was travelling to America.

Care dintre propoziii indic faptul c eroul i-a cunoscut iubita n timpul unei cltorii n America i care ne spune c, imediat dup ce i-a cunoscut iubita, a plecat n America? Prima propoziie nseamn c eroul i-a cunoscut iubita i a plecat n America. n schimb, a doua nseamn c i-a cunoscut iubita n timpul cltoriei. Aadar, putem trage urmtoarele concluzii: Folosim timpul PAST SIMPLE Pentru a exprima o activitate care s-a petrecut la un moment definit n trecut, dar i pentru exprimarea unor activiti care s-au succedat una dup cealalt n trecut, de ex.: I saw Jack yesterday. We went on holiday and we took some nice photos. n schimb, timpul PAST CONTINUOUS se folosete pentru exprimarea unei activiti care a durat pentru o anumit perioad n trecut i pe care o plasm cel mai adesea n timp cu ajutorul unui complement circumstanial de timp de tipul yesterday, at 3 oclock etc., de ex.: We were playing tennis all afternoon. Am jucat tenis toat dup-amiaza. L-am vzut pe Jack ieri. Am plecat n vacan i am fcut cteva fotografii frumoase.

Timpul Past Continuous se folosete de asemenea pentru exprimarea unei activiti care era n desfurare n momentul apariiei unui alt eveniment, de ex.: While I was washing my hair, the phone rang. Pe cnd mi splam prul, a sunat telefonul.

Propoziiile la Past Simple i Past Continuous pot fi unite frecvent cu ajutorul unor cuvinte de legtur precum while /wal/ n timp ce, pe cnd sau as /z/ pe cnd, cnd. Trebuie s mai adugm c ele sunt urmate de un verb la timpul Past Continuous, de ex.: As I was walking down the street, I saw a beautiful girl. Cnd mergeam pe strad, am vzut o fat frumoas.

Atunci cnd nvm o limb strin, ne dorim n primul rnd s vorbim ct mai fluent. Cursul nostru i propune s v ajute s pronunai ct mai corect sunetele limbii engleze, prin seciunea Pronunciation i, desigur, prin suportul audio nregistrat cu vorbitori nativi.

Lecia 3

Pronunciation
Consoanele , sunt pentru vorbitori non-nativi cele mai dificile. Sunetele acestea nu apar n limba romn, tocmai de aceea ar trebui s le acordai mai mult atenie. Nu uitai ca atunci cnd le pronunai s forai contactul cu dinii (incisivii). Cnd vrful limbii se gsete ntre dini, ncercai s pronunai z i vei auzi consoana sonor . n schimb, dac ncercai s pronunai s, ia natere consoana surd . Pentru nceput, pronunai ambele consoane cu deosebit grij i cu timpul pronunarea lor va deveni un lucru ct se poate de natural. 9

Ascultndu-i pe vorbitorii nativi (native speakers), observai c uneori ei l pronun pe ca t, f sau s. poate fi pronunat ca d, v sau z, de ex. unii irlandezi pronun cuvntul thick ca tick. La Londra, n schimb, auzi three ca i cum ar fi free, iar then pronunat ca den.

HENRY VIII AND HIS SIX WIVES


Henry VIII one of the most famous English kings was born on 28th June 1491, as the second son of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. He became king in 1509 after his brother Prince Arthurs death. In his youth Henry was athletic: extremely fond of hunting and tennis. He was very intelligent, spoke good French, Latin and Spanish. Henry liked writing both books and music. He was a good player of many instruments and a composer. He was also very religious. Nowadays, Henry VIII is mainly known for his six marriages. He married his first wife Catherine of Aragon for political reasons, just after he became king. They had a daughter Mary I. By the end of the 1520s Henrys wife was in her forties and they still didnt have a son. The king was really desperate to have a male heir. He fell in love with Anne Boleyn, the sister of one of his many mistresses, so he decided to divorce Catherine and tried to persuade the Pope to allow him to do that. However, the Pope said no. So Henry VIII took England out of the Roman Catholic Church and made himself head of the Church of England. This was the start of Protestantism in England. In 1533, he married Anne Boleyn. Henry hoped finally to have a male heir. His wife, gave birth to another daughter, Princess Elizabeth. Henry decided to get rid of Anne. She was executed for adultery in 1536. In 1537, the king married his third wife the kind-hearted Jane Seymour. She finally gave birth to a son who later became Edward VI. Jane, however, died 12 days after the childs birth in 1537. He married his fourth wife, a German princess, Anne of Cleves for political reasons and soon divorced her. This marriage ended because Anne deliberately made herself unattractive so that she could be free to remarry her sweetheart. In 1540, Henry VIII married the beautiful and ambitious Lady Catherine Howard, but she also was executed for adultery. His last wife Catherine Parr outlived him and died in 1548. None of the last two wives gave birth to any children. King Henry VIII died on 28th January 1547. To some, Henry VIII was a strong and ruthless ruler. But he left the country in a weak and uncertain state. 30
