Cinci ani. Ediia a cincea.

Cu cinci ani n urm ncepeam pregtirile pentru prima
ediie. Plini de grijile unei astfel de complexe ntreprinderi,
nu aveam atunci timp pentru a ne imagina aceast ediie,
aceast zi. i oricum prea foarte ndeprtat.
Acum, privind n urm, descoperim un adevrat drum al
vieii. Un drum al cunoaterii i autocunoaterii, un itinerariu
cultural i existenial. Un drum pe care l-am parcurs cu
pasiune, cu druire, dar i cu greeli, cu nereuite.
Un drum de care suntem mndri, cci ntr-o lume n care
unii nvrjbesc, separ, distrug, Festivalul Filmului Evreiesc
Bucureti ncearc s alunge nencrederea, s redea bucuria
cunoaterii, s adune, s mprieteneasc i s ofere un
viitor comun. Un viitor n care fiecare s vin cu motenirea
identitii sale.
Dup cum aflat chiar de la nceput, un astfel de proiect
ncepe s fie recunoscut ca o ntreprindere serioas de-abia
Five years ago, I was preparing, along with my team, the

first edtion of the Bucharest Jewish Film Festival. We were so
caught up in the moment back then, we did not have time to
envision its fifth edition, happening today. It seemed to be so
far ahead in time.
Now, looking back, we discover this life path we took. A
path of knowledge and self knowledge, a cultural and
existential itinerary. A road which weve took on with
passion, commitment, but also a tough road, on which weve
encountered difficulties and failures. A road we are proud
of. In a world where people quarrel, separate and destroy,
the Jewish Film Festival in Bucharest strives to bring people
together, restore their faith in living together even if different,
bring them the joy of knowing each other and a vision of a
better future. A future where each individual can contribute
with his personal heritage.
From the very first moment, people told us that such a project

it is believed to be only an experiment, which could be quickly
forgotten as time goes by. We hope that the cinemattographic
itinerary, which we will bring to you during the actual edition,
will take you on a journey which will prove that the Bucharest
Jewish Film Festival passes the test of time and is here to stay.

After fleeing Europe for Uruguay during WWII, Jacob Kaplan built a quiet life.
Now 76, he begins to question his worth. After learning of a mysterious German
prowling the shores of a nearby beach, he becomes convinced that hes found a Nazi
in hiding and plans to expose him. Expertly distilling a potent mixture of emotional
depth and deadpan comedy, Mr. Kaplan is a meditation on family, aging, and the

productor. Lungmetrajul su de debut din 2009, Zi nepotrivit pentru pescuit, a avut
premiera la cea de-a 48-a ediie a seciunii paralele Semaine de la Critique a Festivalului
de Film de la Cannes. A fost fost propunerea Uruguayului la categoria Cel Mai Bun Film
Strin, n cadrul Premiilor Oscar, acordate de Academia American de Film. Filmul a
ctigat numeroase premii internaionale i a participat la festivaluri de film de prestigiu. A
fost distins cu 10 premii de ctre Federaia Internaional a Criticilor de Film din Uruguay,
printre care: Cel Mai Bun Film, Cel Mai Bun Debut Internaional, Cel Mai Bun Regizor, Cel
Mai Bun Scenariu i Cel Mai Bun Actor.
lvaro Brechner (born April 9, 1976 in Montevideo, Uruguay) is a film director, writer
and film producer. In 2009, his feature film debut Bad day to go fishing premiered at
the 48th Critics Week of the Cannes Film Festival. It was the Uruguayan candidate for
Oscar Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. The film went on to win several
international awards and has participated in many prestigious film festivals. The film won
10 Uruguay FIPRESCI Critics Awards, including Best Film, Best International Film Debut,
Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Actor.

Damin Szifron (n. 9 iulie 1975) este un regizor i scenarist argentinian, cunoscut
pentru serialul TV Los Simuladores (2002). Szifron a scris i regizat continuarea
serialului n 2003, i serialul Hermanos y Detectives. A studiat cinematografia cu
renumitul scenarist Angel Faretta. Szifron colaboreaz frecvent cu actorul Diego
Peretti, care a jucat n toate filmele sale, ncepnd cu Punto Muerto (1998) i a avut
rolul principal n Los Simuladores (Ipocriii). Filmul pe care l-a realizat n anul 2014,
Poveti Trsnite, a fost selectat pentru seciunea competitiv Palme dOr, n cadrul
Festivalului de Film de la Cannes i a fost nominalizat la categoria Cel Mai Bun Film
Strin la cea de-a 87-a ediie a Premiilor Academiei Americane de Film.
Damin Szifron (born 9 July 1975) is an Argentinian director and screenwriter, best
known as the creator of the TV series Los Simuladores (2002). Szifron was also the writer
and director of the follow-up series in 2003, and of Hermanos y Detectives. He studied
cinema with the renowned film writer Angel Faretta. Szifron is a frequent collaborator
with actor Diego Peretti, who has appeared in all of Szifrons films since Punto Muerto
(1998), as well as starred in Los Simuladores (The Pretenders). His 2014 film, Wild Tales
was selected to compete for the Palme dOr in the main competition section at the 2014
Cannes Film Festival and nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th
Academy Awards.

Acest scurtmetraj are la baz povestea incredibil a locotenentului Jack Hedrick

Taylor, rezervist n Marina Statelor Unite. Filmul prezint perioada misiunii sale
n cadrul Biroului Serviciilor Strategice (BSS) n timpul celui de-al Doilea Rzboi
Mondial, cnd a fost luat prizonier de rzboi i ncarcerat n lagrul de concentrare
Mauthausen, precum i mrturia sa n cadrul proceselor de la tribunalele de rzboi
din Nuremberg i Dachau. Ca scafandru n cadrul BSS, locotenentul Taylor a fost
printre promotorii unor tactici i echipamente de comando dezvoltate ulterior de
ctre marina SUA i folosite n numeroase misiuni. Actualele trupe speciale Navy
SEALs (Mare, Aer, Pmnt) s-au dezvoltat pe bazele BSS, n care au lucrat Taylor i
colegii si.
This short narrative film is based on the incredible life of Lieutenant Commander
Jack Hedrick Taylor, United States Navy Reserve. It emphasizes his missions with the
Office of Strategic Services (OSS) in World War II, his capture behind enemy lines,
subsequent incarceration at Mauthausen concentration camp despite his prisoner of
war status, and his testimony at the Nuremburg and Dachau war crimes trials. As
a frogman, Lt. Cmdr. Taylor was instrumental in the development of some of the
first navy commando-style tactics and equipment, and utilized them on over a dozen
missions. Navy SEALs (Sea, Air, Land) evolved from Taylor and his fellow frogmen of
the OSS Maritime Unit.

Luigi Sperduti s-a nscut n Buffalo, New York. Familia sa s-a mutat n Las Vegas
cnd Luigi avea patru ani. Sperduti i-a nceput cariera de scriitor la vrsta de 14
ani.. El lucreaz n cadrul departamentului pentru persoane cu dizabilitI al unei
coli din Las Vegas. Luigi a lucrat la proiectele de scurtmetraj Clown, A voice from
Mauthasen, Meet Me On The Playground, ca scenarist, regizor i actor.
Luigi Sperduti was born in Buffalo, New York. He moved to sunny Las Vegas at the age
of four. Sperduti has been writing since he was 14 years old. He works in a disabilities
department with the school district in Las Vegas. Luigi has worked on the short film
projects Clown, A Voice From Mauthausen, Meet Me On The Playground, and others in
the capacities of writer, director, and actor.

Maxime Giroux (born 1976 in Montreal) is a film director from Quebec, Canada.
He has directed several short films, videoclips and commercial videos. In 2006, his
film Les Jours won the prize for best short film at the Toronto International Film
Festival, and in 2007 his film Les Rouges au sol won the award for Best Live Action
Short Drama at the27th Genie Awards. His videography includes music videos for
Sam Roberts, Sarah Harmer, The Dears, Pilate, Louise Forestier, Corneille, Marc
Dry, Les Cowboys Fringants and Vulgaires Machins. In October 2007, he began
working on his first feature film, Sophie.It was later renamed to Demain and came
out February 6, 2009. In 2014, he directed Flix et Meira, which premiered at the
Toronto Film Festival where it won Best Canadian Feature Film.

Woody Allen is one of the most well known and respected names in the movie industry.
His career of being a writer, director, actor and producer spans over 30 years and still
thrives. His films have linked the boarders of drama and comedy, while continually being
entertaining and honest.
Woody Allen was born on December 1st, 1935 in Brooklyn New York and was given
the name Allen Stewart Konigsberg. Woody is the son of Martin and Nettie Cherrie
Konigsberg, both of whom were Orthodox Jews.

familiei sale i a societii. Filmul lui Pencho urmrete cu strictee aciunea romanului
lui Kafka i ne arat cum o schimbare brusc poate fi perceput ca o metamorfoz
monstruoas - o poveste ce poate fi interpretat att n sens literar, ct i alegoric.
One casual morning, the daily life of Gregor Samsa takes a strange turn when he is
transformed into a gigantic bug and he is forced to endure the disparaging attitude
of his family and society towards him. The Metamorphosis by Pencho is a movie,
which adheres rigidly to the original novella and equally powerfully shows us how a
sudden change is perceived as a monstrous metamorphosis - a story with both literal
and allegorical interpretation.

Regizorul Pencho Dimitrov apreciaz matematica nc de pe vremea liceului,

cnd a ales s urmeze cursuri intensive de matematic. Aceast tiin i-a dezvoltat
gndirea logic i analitic. Dup absolvirea liceului, Pencho a primit burs de
student la Universitatea Osaka, unde a studiat limba i cultura japonez. n aceste
mprejurri, Pencho i-a mbogit cunotinele morale i culturale. Dup revenirea n
ara natal, Pencho a lucrat timp de trei ani la proiectul su de debut, Metamorfoza.

The director of the film, Pencho Dimitrov, cherishes mathematics since attending highschool, when he chose a particularly math-intensive curriculum. Mathematics helped
him develop a critical and analytical mind. After graduation Pencho was accepted as
a scholarship student at Osaka University, where he studies Japanese language and
culture. This new environment enriched Penchos cultural and moral understandings.
After Penchos return to his home country, he has worked on his debut project The
Metamorphosis for three years until its completion.

family. An unmissable and engrossing story that expertly echoes the upheaval and
moral ambiguities of the time.

Christian Petzold, one of todays leading German filmmakers, was born in Hilden in
1960. After studying German and drama at the Freie Universitt, he enrolls in Berlins
German Academy for Film and Television. There he studies movie direction while at
same time working as assistant director to Harun Farocki and Hartmut Bitomsky. After
graduation, Christian Petzold makes a series of interesting TV films. In 2000, his first
theatrical feature, Die innere Sicherheit (2000), about a couple of left-wing terrorists, is
released and makes a strong impression and earning its director both the German Film
Award and the Hessischer Award.

A man, while hunting a wolf in the forest, is startled by the sound of guns firing.
Suddenly, in an explosion of movement there are people running, one of whom, a
small boy, gets lost in the sinister forest. Even the wolves are overwhelmed by a sense
of impending danger.

anul trecut (la aniversarea a 70 de ani de la Ziua Z), ca un simbol al pericolului
intoleranei rasiale, culturale i religioase.
Yellow Stars of Tolerance is about a series of yellow stars painted on an exterior wall
of a synagogue in Normandy, France, during World War II. These stars still remain
today and were preserved last year (at a ceremony held a few weeks after the 70th
anniversary of D-Day in Normandy) as a way to teach the dangers of racial, cultural,
and religious intolerance.

primit numeroase premii, printre care se numr Cine Golden Eagle and Associated
Press Outstanding Documentary Awards sau nominalizri la premiile EMMY. Fissel
este co-fondatorul JEMGLO i al companiei de producie video Voices & Visions
Productions, pe care o conduce.
Curt Fissel has directed and been the director of photography on more than 25
documentaries, almost all of which have been broadcast on PBS, cable TV, and/or global
film festivals. He has received numerous awards, including the Cine Golden Eagle and

Filmed in one sequence-shot of 85 minutes, Ana Arabia is a moment in the life of
a small community of outcasts, Jews and Arabs, who live together in a forgotten
enclave at the border between Jaffa and Bat Yam, in Israel. One day, Yael, a young
journalist, visits them. In these dilapidated shacks, in the orchard filled with lemon
trees and surrounded by mass public houses, she discovers a range of characters far
removed from the usual clichs offered by the region. Yael has the feeling of having
discovered a human goldmine. She no longer thinks of her job. Faces and words of
Youssef and Miriam, Sarah and Walid, of their neighbors, their friends tell her about
life, its dreams and its hopes, its love affairs, desires and disillusions. Their relation to
time is different than that of the city around them. In this tinkered and fragile place,
there is a possibility of coexistence. A universal metaphor.

Amos Gitai (11 October 1950) is an Israeli filmmaker, mainly known for making
documentaries and feature films, surrounding the Middle East and Jewish-Arab conflict.
His work was presented in several major retrospective in Pompidou Center Paris, the
Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) New-York, the Lincoln Center New-York and the British
Film Institute London. To date Amos Gitai has created over 90 works of art throughout
38 years. Between 1999 and 2011, seven of his films were entered in the Cannes Film
Festival for the Palme dOr as well as the Venice Film Festival for the Golden Lion award

The trial story of Viviane Amsalems five year fight to obtain her divorce in front of the only
legal authority competent for divorce cases in Israel, the Rabbinical Court. Viviane and her
lawyer must face the uncompromising attitude of Elisha, the husband, who doesnt even
respond to the rabbis convocations. When he is finally obliged to come to court, he keeps
refusing the divorce even though theyve been separated for years. Witnesses are called,
the procedure drags on, while Viviane is still unable to recover her dignity.

Ronit Elkabetz was born in Beersheba in 1964 to a religious Moroccan Jewish family
originally from Essaouira.She grew up in Kiryat Yam. Her mother was a hairdresser and
her father was a postal employee. Her mother spoke French and Arabic, but her father
insisted on speaking only Hebrew. She never studied acting and started her career as a
model. She divides her time between her homes in Paris and Tel Aviv. In 2015 she was
selected to be the President of the Jury for the International Critics Week section of the
2015 Cannes Film Festival.

pe posturile de televiziune germane sau israeliene -, filme documentare antropologice
despre diferite comuniti etnice i fenomene culturale, i altele. Proiectele pe care le-a

neleptul i Orna Porath, Itzik Manger i Raphael Klachkin, festivaluri pentru copii,

Tommy Lang is a writer, director, cinematographer and producer.

He was born in 1946 in Romania, then moved to Israel, where he got his Bachelor degree
in film and television at Tel Aviv University. At the same university, he pursued his Master
degree in media and film.
Over the past three decades, Tommy Lang has produced a rich body of work that
embraces art films and documentaries on art and culture, filmed theater productions
and musical performances for Israeli and German television stations, anthropological
explorations of ethnic communities and social phenomena, and more. The projects
he produced and directed span subjects and figures as diverse as Nathan the
Wise and Orna Porath, Itzik Manger and Raphael Klachkin, childrens festivals,
entertainment programs,etc. Most of the projects were in some way or other related
to cultural phenomena and youth programs.
In the 70s, he directed and/or produced television shows for Channel 1 Israel
(entertainment programs, sport shows and documentaries).
His filmography as a writer, director, director of photography and producer includes
Pnina Zaltzman (documentary film, 2013), Maj. Ginet (documentary film, 2011), Tayara
(autobiographical feature film 2010), 17 Tickets (documentary, 2009), The Shiva (feature

Joseph Pichhadze s-a nscut n Tbilisi, Georgia, n 1965, iar n 1972 a emigrat cu familia sa n
Israel, unde a absolvit Facultatea de Film i Televiziune din cadrul Universitii din Tel Aviv. Este
considerat drept unul dintre cei mai valoroi cineati din Israel. Pichadze a ieit n eviden n
peisajul cinematografiei israeliene ca un personaj cu o viziune nou i autentic, nc de la primul
su lungmetraj, care a ctigat Premiul Wolgin la Festivalul de Film din Ierusalim. Filmele sale pot
fi prezentate drept experiene ale exilului i nstrinrii, att fizice ct i psihice, precum i drept
o privire intransigent asupra realitii israeliene. Fiecare dintre acestea reflect existena ca pe o

Joseph Pichhadze was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 1965 and immigrated to Israel with his family
in 1972. He graduated from the Department of Film & Television at the Tel-Aviv University. He
is considered one of the preeminent filmmakers in Israel. Even with his first feature film, which
won the Wolgin Award at the Jerusalem Film Festival, Pichhadze stood out as a new and unique
voice in the local cinema landscape. His films can be characterized by experiences of exile and
estrangement, both physical and mental, and a birds eye view over Israeli reality, showcasing, each
in its own right, the local existence as a peculiar, intensified, and compressed reality, where all these
varied ingredients collapse onto one another, thus creating a sort of dream or illusion.

Nour and Iyad, a Palestinian couple living in East Jerusalem, are preparing to move
to Paris.
He is a surgeon at the top of his game; she is a young actress from a Palestinian
bourgeois intellectual background, attractive, independent and whimsical. On the
way to the airport, a news report of a terrible accident means Iyad has to return to
his hospital and delay their departure. Abandoned by her husband once again, Nour
starts to question their future move as well as their marriage, while showing how
attached she is to all that she is about to leave behind.

Tawfik Abu Wael s-a nscut n 1976, n Umm al-Fahm, un ora palestinian din Israel. A absolvit
coala de Regie din cadrul Universitii Tel Aviv, unde a i lucrat n arhiva de cinema. Ulterior, a
predat teatru la coala Hassan Arafe din Jaffa. n 2001, a regizat primul su scurtmetraj, Diary of
a Male Whore, i documentarul Waiting for Sallah Al-Din, iar n 2004, primul su lungmetrajde
ficiune, Atash (Sete), care a ctigat Premiul FIPRESCI n cadrul seciunii paralele Semaine de la
Critique a Festivalul de Film de la Cannes. Tawfik Abu Wael este i regizor de teatru.
Tawfik Abu Wael was born in 1976, in Umm al-Fahm, a Palestinian town in Israel. He graduated
in directing from Tel-Aviv University, where he also worked in the film archives. He then taught
drama at the Hassan Arafe School in Jaffa. In 2001 he made his first short, Diary of a Male Whore,
and the documentary Waiting for Sallah Al-Din, before shooting his first feature film in 2004,
Atash (Thirst), that won the Fipresci Prize at the Semaine de la Critique in Cannes. Tawfik Abu Wael

Talya Lavie este regizoare, scenarist i artist de benzi desenate. A studiat animaia la
Academia de Art Bezalel i a absolvit cum laude coala de Film Sam Spiegel din Ierusalim. A
scris scenarii pentru diverse seriale TV. Scurtmetrajul Sliding Flora a putut fi vizionat la Muzeul
de Art Modern de la New York i la peste 40 de festivaluri internaionale de film. Filmul
su de licen, The Substitute, a primit numeroase premii internaionale, printre care Premiul
Juriului n cadrul Festivalului Internaional de Film de la Berlin, Cel Mai Bun Scurtmetraj n cadrul
Festivalului Internaional de Scurtmetraje de la Munich, i Cel Mai Bun Film n cadrul Festivalului
Internaional de Film de la Melbourne. Cu filmul Lipsite de Motivaie, care a avut premiera
la Festivalul de Film de la Tribeca, Tayla a participat la Laboratoarele de Regizori i Scenariti
organizate de ctre Institutul Sundance.
Talya Lavie is a director, screenwriter, and comics artist. She studied animation at the Bezalel
Art Academy and graduated with merit from the Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem. She
authored screenplays for various television dramas. Her short film SLIDING FLORA screened at New
York Citys Museum of Modern Arts and in over 40 film festivals worldwide. Her thesis film THE
SUBSTITUTE received several international awards, notably the Audience Award in the Berlinale,
the first prize in the Munich International Short Film Festival, and the first prize in the Melbourne
International Film Festival. ZERO MOTIVATION, her first feature film, participated in the Sundance
Directors and Screenwriters Lab and world premiered in Tribeca.

Parcul Naional Apollonia, n nordul coastei Herzliy. Triete de ani de zile n aceast
peter, fr electricitate sau ap curent. n prezent, casa construit din materiale
improvizate - pietre, gunoi, nisip - are numeroase tunele i peteri. Nissim insist s
continue lucrrile, munca sa nu se termin niciodat. Moshe, fiul su, care s-a nscut n
peter, s-a mutat cu el s l ajute. Acum are 18 ani i n curnd se va nrola n armat.
Munca asidu pe care o depun mpreun transform relaia lor ntr-una i mai complex.
Nissim Kahlon (67) made his home in a cave he dug, in a limestone cliff under Apollonia
National Park, on the North of the Herzliya coast. For years he lived in this cave, without
electricity or running water. Today the home that he built out of anything and everything
- rocks, trash, sand - contains countless caves and tunnels, and Nissim insists on continuing
to work on it every day. His work never ends. Nissims son, Moshe (18), who was born in
the cave and will soon join the military, move in with him. Together they work to dig out
the cave in which he will live. Through their hard work, a complex relationship between
father and son is revealed.

n 2009, l-a cunoscut pe regizorul Amos Gitai i s-a alturat, ca fotograf, proiectelor
cinematografice ale acestuia.
Dan Bronfeld is a director and photographer. He completed his studies at the ScreenBased Arts Department at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. In 2008, after
completing his duty has the head of the Stills Photography Department for the IDF
Spokesman Unit, he began collaborating with photography agencies across Europe.
In 2009 he met the director Amos Gitai and accompanied him as a photographer
throughout his latest films.

atunci, Nirit a devenit parte din spiritul oraului, fiind perceput de muli ca o berlinez
din Israel. Lucreaz ca ghid turistic, mai ales pentru grupuri de evrei care viziteaz
Berlinul pentru a explora trecutul ntunecat al istoriei evreieti n Germania.
Nirit nu simte nevoia de apartenen la un grup, ns are o perspectiv complex asupra
religiei, naionalitii i tradiiei. Filmul ncearc s raspund unor ntrebri legate de
multiculturalismul modern.
The film is a portray of Nirit Ben Joseph, an Israeli living in Berlin for 26 year. Moving
to Berlin at the age of 25 for the love of a German partner, Nirit has since become
an in-separate part of the city and is described by many as a Berliner from Israel.
Working as an historical tour guide of the city, Nirits most common audience are
Israelis visiting Berlin to explore the dark past of Jewish German history.
Nirit does not feel a need to belong to a greater collective, but at the same time
has a complicated perspective about her religion, nationality and tradition.The film
delves into these questions of todays multicultural world.

Amos Geva s-a nscut n Israel i a locuit n Anglia de la 5 pn la 9 ani. A nceput s realizeze

Darwish. Poezia sa a fost decisiv n conturarea identitii palestiniene i a ajutat la
formarea multor generaii. Darwish a crescut n timpul regimului militar. Nu a avut
libertate de micare i nu a putut s prseasc Haifa. n 1964, a scris poezia-protest
Noteaz: Sunt Arab, care a atras antipatia autoritilor. Darwish a fost condamnat,
devenind astfel un simbol pentru ntreaga lume arab.
Prin intermediul poeziei sale, al scrisorilor de dragoste recent descoperite i al rarelor
materiale de arhiv, reuim s l cunoatem pe omul, exilatul i iubitul ale crui cuvinte
au inspirat ntregul popor palestinian.
Write Down, I Am an Arab tells the fascinating story of the Palestinian national
poet Mahmoud Darwish. His poetry molded Palestinian identity and helped shape
entire generations. Darwish grew up under a military government, which denied him
freedom of movemen and left him confined to the city of Haifa. In 1964 he wrote
the defiant poem Write down: I am an Arab. The work succeeded in provoking
the ire of the authorities. Darwish was sent to prison and became a national icon for
the entire Arab world. Through his poetry, secret love letters that have only just been
revealed and rare archival materials, we will get to know the man, the exile and the
lover, whose words became the clarion call of the Palestinian people.

Ari Folman este un renumit regizor i scenarist israelian. S-a nscut la Haifa, n anul
1962. A studiat la Universitatea din Tel Aviv, Departamentul de Film i Televiziune.
Prinii lui s-au cunoscut n ghetoul Lodz, n Polonia, unde s-au i cstorit n august
1944. n dimineaa urmtoare, au fost evacuai i dui la Auschwitz. Folman i-a
nceput cariera producnd documentare. Cel de-al doilea film al su, ncremenii /
Comfortably Numb, pe care l-a regizat alturi de Ori Sivan n anul 1991, a ctigat
un Premiu Ophir, Marele Premiu la Festivalul de Film de la Ierusalim i multe alte
premii internaionale. Filmul Sfnta Clara, realizat n 1966, tot alturi de Ori Sivan, a
ctigat un premiu special la Festivalul de Film Karlovy Vary, premiul pentru Cel Mai
Bun FIlm la Festivalul Internaional de Film de la Haifa i ase premii Ophir pentru Cel

care are ca tem ncercarea lui Ari de a-i recupera amintirile reprimate despre aceste
evenimente, a primit peste 18 premii internaionale.
Ari Folman is a renowned Israeli director and screenwriter. He was born in Haifa in
1962 and studied at Tel Aviv Universitys Department of Film and Television. Folmans
parents met in the Lodz ghetto in Poland and were married on August 18, 1944.
They were evacuated to Auschwitz the following morning during the liquidation of
the ghetto. Folmans began his film career with producing documentaries. Shaanan
Si, his second film, was directed with Ori Sivan in 1991 and won an Ophir Award,
a Jerusalem Film Festival Prize, and multiple international film awards. His 1996
film, Saint Clara, also directed with Ori Sivan, won a special award at the Karlovy
Vary International Film Festival, the best film award at the Haifa International
Film Festival, and six Ophir Awards for best director, best film, best actress, best
supporting actor, best editing, and best music. He also wrote and directed the 2001
film Made in Israel, for which he was nominated for another Ophir Award for best
director. Between 2001 and 2004, Folman wrote the screenplays for seven episodes
of the Israel television show Shabatot VeHagim. When Folman was a 19-year-old
infantry soldier in the Israeli Defense Forces during the 1982 Lebanon War, he
witnessed the aftermath of the massacre at the Sabra and Shatila. Waltz with Bashir,
a film that presents his attempt to recover these repressed memories, won over 18
international awards.

Egon Schultz, the last surviving Nazi war criminal, is extradited to Israel from Syria
in the framework of the peace agreements between the two countries. Schultz is
to be tried in Jerusalem for the transport of Jews from all parts of Europe. Danny
Hoffman, a wealthy businessman and son of a Holocaust survivor, places a $2
million bounty on Schultzs head, as indicated in his fathers will. There is a catch to
Hoffmans contract: the bounty hunters must capture the Nazi at the Golan Heights
border crossing and bring him unharmed to the highest mountain in the country
where, at the top of the snow-covered peak, Hoffman himself is to shoot the last
Nazi. The contract will be void if the Nazi is harmed on the way to the mountain.

scenarist de origine israelian. De-a lungul carierei sale de peste dou decenii, Ori
Sivan a realizat numeroase lungmetraje de ficiune, seriale de televiziune, filme de
televiziune i documentare. A fost distins cu 11 premii ale Academiei Israeliene de
Film. De asemenea, filmele sale au fost premiate i la nivel internaional. Sivan este
co-realizatorul serialului de televiziune In Treatment, primul serial israelian ale crui
drepturi de adaptare au fost vndute n Statele Unite (canalului HBO).

Director Ari Folmans animated, quasi-documentary Waltz With Bashir follows the
filmmakers emotional attempt to decipher the horrors that unfolded one night in
September of 1982, when Christian militia members massacred more than 3,000
Palestinian refugees in the heart of Beirut, as Israeli soldiers surrounded the area.
Folman was one of those soldiers, but nearly 20 years after the fact, his memories of
that night remain particularly hazy. After hearing an old friend recall a vivid nightmare
in which he is pursued by 26 ferocious dogs, Folman and his friend conclude that
the dream must somehow relate to that fateful mission during the first Lebanon
War. When Folman realizes that his recollections regarding that period in his life
seem to have somehow been wiped clean, he travels the world to interview old
friends and fellow soldiers from the war.

Ephraim Kishon (n. Ferenc Hofmann, 23 august 1924, Budapesta d. 29 ianuarie

2005) a fost un prozator, umorist, dramaturg, scenarist i regizor nominalizat la
Premiile Oscar. Kishon s-a nscut la Budapesta, ntr-o familie evreiasc din clasa de
mijloc. n tineree, nu cunotea nici limba idi, nici ebraica. Tatl su, Dezs, era
director de banc, iar mama sa, Erzsbet, secretar. A trebuit s-i ntrerup studiile
din cauza legilor rasiale mpotriva evreilor i a nvat meseria de orfevrier. A fost
deportat, ncepnd cu 1944, n mai multe lagre de concentrare din Ungaria, unde a
supravieuit, printre altele, i datorit talentului de ahist - comandantul unuia dintre
lagre nu gsise pe altcineva care s joace la nivelul su. A reuit s fug dintr-un
transport spre lagrul de exterminare Sobibr din Polonia i s ajung la Budapesta,
unde a aflat c prinii i sora sa supravieuiser, dar c muli ali membri ai familiei
fuseser ucii n camerele de gazare de la Auschwitz. S-a ntors n Ungaria n anul
1945, iar n 1948 i-a terminat studiile n istoria artei i a desfurat o activitate

Ephraim Kishon (August 23, 1924 January 29, 2005) was an Israeli author,
dramatist, screenwriter, and Oscar-nominated film director. Ephraim Kishon was
born on August 23, 1924 in a middle-class Jewish family in Budapest, Hungary. In his
youth he did not know Hebrew nor Yiddish. His father worked as a bank manager
and his mother was a former secretary. Due to the racial laws applied in Hungary
during World War II, he was not allowed to continue his studies at the university
and therefore he began to study jewelry making in 1942. During World War II, the
Nazis imprisoned him in several concentration camps. At one camp his chess talent
helped him survive, as the camp commandant was looking for an opponent. He
eventually managed to escape the concentration camps while being transported
to the Sobibor extermination camp and returned to Budapest, where he discovered
that his parents and sister had survived, but many other family members had been
murdered in the gas chambers at Auschwitz. In 1945, Kishon returned to Hungary,
where he continued to study art and writing. In 1948 he completed his studies in
metal sculpturing and art history and began publishing humorous articles under the
name Franz Kishunt. In 1949 he immigrated to the newly founded state of Israel,
to escape the Communist regime. When arriving in Israel, an immigration officer
officially Hebraicized his name to Ephraim Kishon. In 2003, he won the Israel Prize
for lifetime achievement.

David, a recently divorced 54-years-old quadriplegic, is looking for love. He uses

the help of online dating sites where the photos hide how handicapped he really is.
Although his condition means he needs people
around him all the time David still feels lonely. The friends he had before the divorce
have disappeared and his children distance themselves from him. When his daughter
offers to use him as the subject of a documentary project he happily agrees hoping
that it will bring them closer together.

Shortly after WWII, over 1000 paintings were found in a basement in southern
France. The paintings were created by a Young-Jewish artist called Charlotte

chiar i n mediul familiar. Acea persoan este Rona, o tnr inhibat din punct
de vedere sexual, care se afl n perioada crucial a tranziiei de la adolescen la
maturitate. Acest proces este transpus n nsi evoluia filmului. Tonul povestirii se
va altera, i pe msur ce lumina zilei este acaparat de noapte, luminile i atitudinea
lejer iniiale vor lsa locul unei atitudini dramatice i rscolitoare. Percepia Ronei
asupra lumii din jur se transform ntr-una ntunecat i apstoare.
The film deals with a personal experience, in which a person feels helpless and powerless
in his home turf. Specifically in this film that person is Rona, a young woman, sexually
inhibited; In that crucial period that is the transformation from adolescence into a figure
of authority. This process which the protagonist goes through is true also for the film
itself. The film will change its tone, and like the daylight gradually disappears and a black
night envelopes the group, so does the films light and casual tone changes into a more
dramatic and disturbing one. The way in which the protagonist perceives the reality
around her turns dark and nightmarish.

Three girls in an empty house, according to their own rules. They know the

adolescenei n Calanda (Teruel). Se stabilise la Madrid pn acum zece ani, cnd s-a mutat la
Segovia. A nfiinat i a activat n companii care i desfoar activitatea la Segovia, Madrid,
Albacete i Zaragoza.
A lucrat ca regizoare pentru postul spaniol de televiziune TVE i a predat ca profesor invitat
la diverse faculti i coli de televiziune. Scrie povestiri, poezii i piese de teatru - pe care le i
regizeaz -, i a realizat expoziii de art video i fotografie la diverse galerii de art i muzee.
i-a nceput cariera ca artist amator pentru grupuri informale de teatru, apoi a intrat n lumea
filmului ca i costumier, ulterior lucrnd n producie i management.
Mercedes Gaspar was born in Zaragoza and she spent most of her childhood and youth in
Calanda (Teruel). She settled down in Madrid, until she moved to Segovia ten years ago. She
constituted and participated in different companies with activities in Segovia, Madrid, Albacete
and Zaragoza. She has worked as director in Spanish TV (TVE), and invited lecturer at different
universities and Film and TV Institutes. She is producer, writer and director. She writes short
stories, poetry, and theater - which she also directs, and has made video art and photography
exhibitions in museums and art galleries. She was part of amateur theater groups, and her film
career started making movies costumes, and then entering into production and management.

nscut i a crescut n Irak. A petrecut 13 ani scriind cartea, care descrie viaa evreilor
din Irak n pragul ntemeierii Statului Israel. Un aspect unic al acestei producii este
faptul c actorii vorbesc aproape exclusiv n dialectul arab irakian vorbit de ctre
evreii i musulmanii din Bagdad. Adio, Bagdad! prezint atmosfera politic volatil
din Irak care a afectat comunitatea evreiasc din Bagdad dup Farhud-ul din iunie
1941, cnd evreii irakieni au fost atacai i ucii, iar proprietile lor au fost jefuite.
Portretizeaz att felul n care comunitatea evreiasc a fost persecutat de ctre
societatea arab, ct i legturile de prietenie care le unesc.
Farewell Baghdad is a film based largely on the novel by the Israeli writer Eli
Amir, who was born and raised in Iraq. He spent 13 years writing the book, which
describes the life of the Jews of Iraq on the eve of the establishment of the State of
Israel. What is unique about this film is that the actors speak almost entirely in the
Iraqi Arabic dialects spoken by the Jews and Muslims of Baghdad.
Farewell Baghdad depicts the volatile political atmosphere in Iraq which affected
the Jewish community in Baghdad after the Farhud of June 1941, when Iraqi Jews
were attacked and killed and Jewish property was looted. It portrays a Jewish
community that was affected by the Arab society around it, while at the same time
bound by ties of friendship.

After a long night, Bashir returns home from work to find his Jewish girlfriend Karin
with an unexpected baby in her arms. Were a family now, she tells him, and

Bashir is torn between his will to devotionally support his girlfriend and doing the

sets-out on a runaway journey with the baby wrapped in a blanket. As they escape

Rachel, 27, is raising her mentally challenged sister Gabby, all by herself. When the social
worker finds out she leaves her sister alone in the house while at work, she is forced
to place her in a day-care center. For the first time in her life she shares the upbringing
of her dear sister with someone else, her daily routine collapses and the huge void, left
by her sisters absence, makes room for a man in Rachels life. That man, Zohar, tears
another crack in the symbiotic relationship of the two sisters. Rachel hangs on to his
love as if it was a life belt. But her inability to lead a normal, intimate and emotional
relationship with anyone but her sister, forces them into a twisted threesome, where
boundaries between love, sacrifice, nurturing and torturing - are broken.

Asaf Korman s-a nscut n Israel, n anul 1982. A realizat primul su scurtmetraj,
End Credits, la vrsta de 18 ani, ca proiect de absolvire. Filmul a fost difuzat de ctre
televiziunea naional din Israel i a primit cronici pozitive. Mai trziu, a realizat
cteva scurtmetraje independente, urmate de nscrierea la coala de Arte Camera
Obscura din Tel Aviv. Filmul pe care l-a realizat cnd era n anul doi, Birthday, a avut
premiera n cadrul Festivalului de Film de la Ierusalim, fiind ulterior inclus n seleciile
unor festivaluri de film din Bulgaria i Germania. De-a lungul anilor, a colaborat cu
o mulime de artiti israelieni, printre care Joseph Dadoune, Reef Cohen, Moshe
Mizrahi, Ariel Efraim Ashbel, Oded Yedaya, Boom-Pam, Givol Choir i alii.
Asaf Korman was born in Israel in 1982. He made his first short film (End Credits) at the
age of eighteen, as a high school graduation project. The film was screened in national
Israeli television and received respectful reviews. Later on he made several independent
shorts, until enrolling to cinema studies in the Camera Obscura School for Art in TelAviv. His second year film (Birthday) was premiered at the Jerusalem Film Festival and later
screened in Bulgaria and Germany. Through the years he collaborated with many Israeli
artists, amongst them Joseph Dadoune, Reef Cohen, Moshe Mizrahi, Ariel Efraim Ashbel,
Oded Yedaya, Boom-Pam, Givol Choir and others.

(FAR) pentru a ndeplini serviciul militar obligatoriu, un exerciu ciudat, absurd, intens, nebunesc
i derizoriu. La trei ani dup aceea, n 1999, i-a urmat destinul sisific studiind cinematografia
la Universitatea din Tel Aviv. Greieri, controversatul su film de licen, prezint povestea unor
oameni care pariaz pe atacuri teroriste. Acesta a ctigat numeroase premii la festivaluri de film,
printre care Cel Mai Bun Scurtmetraj la Festivalul de Film din Brooklyn i premiul special ONU
pentru Cel Mai Bun Film Politic la Festivalul de Film de la New York, i a fost difuzat n cadrul a
peste 70 de festivaluri de film din toat lumea. Croazier ctre Paradis este primul su lungmetraj.
Matan Guggenheim was born in Jerusalem in 1977. In 1999, after three years of weird,
ludicrous, intense, crazy and pointless obligatory military service as a combat fighter in the Israel
Defense Forces (IDF), he followed his Sisyphean destiny by studying cinema at Tel Aviv University.
His controversial graduating film Crickets dealt with people gambling on terrorist attacks, and
won numerous festival prizes including Best Short at the 2005 Brooklyn Film Festival, as well as a
special prize from the UN for Best Political Movie at the New York Film Festival, and was exhibited
in more than 70 film festivals around the globe. Paradise Cruise is his first feature film.

Nadav Lapid, born in Tel Aviv, studied philosophy at the University of Tel-Aviv and literature in Paris.
In 2006, Nadav graduated the Sam Spiegel Film & Television School, Jerusalem.
His 50-minute graduation film, Emiles Girlfriend, was screened in Cannes 2006 Cinefondation
Competition. The film was commercially distributed in theaters throughout France and was
bought by ARTE. Road, his schools first short, was screened at the Berlin Film Festival, Locarno
and many other international film festivals. His first feature, Policeman, won the jury award at
the Locarno Film Festival 2011. Policeman won fifteen awards in international film festivals, was
bought for theatrical release in more than twenty territories, was screened in numerous festivals,
including the New York Film Festival and the London Film Festival and was selected in the American
critics polls as one of the best films of 2011.

When her 88-year-old father moved home, estranged daughter Hella de Jonge
acquired the legacy of her great aunt who survived the Nazi terror along with Hellas
parents. This inspires her to investigate the history of her family. With the aid of
photos and documents, a videotape of Hellas mothers testimony made as part
of Steven Spielbergs Shoah project, conversations and visits to places with painful
memories, the father and daughter begin to heal their fractured relationship.

aa s-a decretat. Filmul nu prezint povestea cultului lui Goel Ratzon, ci pe cea a
trei femei frumoase i talentate. Aciunea filmului se desfoar la cinci ani dup ce
l-au prsit pe Ratzon i dup ce acesta a fost condamnat la 30 de ani de nchisoare.
Cele trei femei i alte 14 ncearc s i dea seama de ce au acceptat s fie cu Ratzon,

Shuly Barzilays story is incredible. Captivated by the charm of the charismatic Goel
Ratzon, she became his right-hand woman, financially supporting him and fulfilling
his every whim. She even convinced her three daughters to become his wives. The
first to agree was Sheri, who was only 18, while Ratzon was 50. Then came Ilanit,
a 22-year-old divorcee with a child. The last to agree was Galit, aged 14. Although
she was still a minor, she agreed, she said, because it was decreed. This isnt a film
about Goel Ratzons cult. It is the story of three beautiful, talented women. Now,
five years after leaving Ratzon, and after he was sentenced to 30 years in prison,
they still struggle to understand why they stayed with him, together with 14 other
women. But they have no answer.

Nili Tal is an Israeli journalist and documentary film director and producer. Nili Tal began her

Curt Fissel a regizat i a fost productorul a peste 25 de filme documentare, majoritatea

fiind transmise de PBS sau alte reele de televiziune. Multe dintre acestea au fost prezentate
la festivaluri internaionale de film. Curt a primit multe premii, printre care Cine Golden Eagle,
i a fost nominalizat de Academia Naional a Artelor i tiinelor pentru Televiziune (NATAS)

Curt Fissel has directed and been the DP on over 25 documentaries over the years, almost
all of which have been broadcast on PBS and cable channels and many of which have been
screened at global film festivals. Curt has received numerous awards, including the Cine Golden
Eagle, nominations by NATAS in various EMMY categories including Individual Achievement in
Photography and Outstanding Historical Documentary.

d, unul dintre cele mai oropsite i violente locuri din Europa la vremea respectiv.
Pasagerii erau ceteni din d, care vedeau ce se ntmpl vecinilor lor evrei.
Acetia au fost forai s se adune ntr-un sector numit Litzmannstadt. Acest
sector a rmas neschimbat pn n ziua de azi. Acum este populat, plin de via i
drpnat. Natan Grossmann se ntoarce n locul unde s-a nscut, cutnd urmele
pierdute ale fratelui i prinilor lui, care fuseser aruncai n acest ghetou.
During World War II, tram line no. 41 crossed through the Ghetto of d, one
of the most forlorn, organized, violent civic places within Europe at that time.
Tram passengers were d citizens who saw what was happening to their Jewish
neighbors. They had been forced in into a fortified district called Litzmannstadt.
Today a visit to this district reveals a place that rarely changed in time now inhabited,
lively, and run-down. Natan Grossmann returns to his place of birth, searching for
the lost traces of his brother and parents who where locked up in this ghetto.

While preparing for their wedding, Sivan Mor Goldman, a 29-year-old film director,
and her fianc Ronen discover that Sivan has a cancerous mass in her breast. With
the help of a camera, family and good friends, they embark on a difficult and
emotional journey, filled with challenges that they meet with humor and optimism.
Between sessions of chemotherapy and radiation, they look for wedding rings,
the perfect dress, flowers and a catering service, trying to stay focused on the big
day ahead.

acestor obiecte, observm i rutina zilnic a personajelor. Povestea lor evolueaz n
jurul obiectelor pe care le-au reparat n ultimele decenii. Aceste obiecte nu mai sunt
folosite i ca atare sunt date la schimb. Ele sunt folosite n diferite domenii care le
confer din nou valoare, doar pentru a ajunge n punctul n care numai anumite
pri din ele mai sunt folositoare.
A countless number of cameras and televisions in need of repair go through Miguel
and Davids repair shops every day, with increasingly more complicated work
needed. Following the path of these objects, we get to know these characters daily
routine, whose life story evolve in the just of the things theyve been repairing for
decades. Objects that go unused and go from hand to hand every day, conquered by
a diverse number of trades that give them a new value to what is no longer usable
for many people; until finally reaching a place where only fragments of each camera
and television have their last chance.

School of Anthropology and has a Masters Degree in Visual Anthropology and Anthropological
Documentary at FLACSO - Ecuador. He is a member of the Ethnoscope Collective, an organization
dedicated to the promotion of visual anthropology in Mexico.

Nissim Aloni was a king of the Hebrew theater. The magical realm he created on
stage brimmed with imagination and poetry, giving voice and vision to the loftiest
dreams. But in a world dominated by a mundane, populist democracy and controlled
by functionaries, Aloni found he was a king in exile, without a kingdom, without
an audience, without critics, and without theater managers to share his whimsical
dreams.

Doron Djerassi graduated in 2006 from the Edit Schori Screenwriting School and in 2010 he
graduated from the Sam Spiegel Film and Television school, Jerusalem. His documentary Free
improvisation won the first prize at the 2010 Listapad Film Festival, Minsk, and Second Prize at
the 2010 Doc-Aviv Film Festival, Israel.

Marea Moart: un adevrat giuvaer natural situat la grania dintre Israel i Iordania,
la cea mai joas altitudine de pe Terra (422 metri sub nivelul mrii). Este un lac n
deert, bogat n minerale i sruri, care are o culoare diferit n fiecare moment al
zilei. Totui, din cauza interveniei omului, Marea Moart va disprea n urmtorii 20
de ani. Regizorul Stefano Casertano a petrecut un an documentnd viaa oamenilor
care triesc pe lng Marea Moart, pentru a prezenta modul n care acetia percep
pierderea mrii lor dragi.
The Dead Sea: a gem of natural beauty between Israel and Jordan, at the lowest
point on Earth (-422 meters below the sea level). It is a lake in the desert, full
of minerals and salts creating new colors at every hour of the day. Yet, due to
the action of man, the Dead Sea will disappear within 20 years. Director Stefano
Casertano spent one year following the life of people living around the sea, to
capture their feelings towards the loss of their beloved place.

lucrat ca editor multi-media pe teme politice pentru mai multe televiziuni din Europa. n 2011,
a obinut doctoratul Magna cum Laudae la Universitatea Potsdam din Germania. Dup
realizarea mai multor producii video de televiziune i pentru reviste online, n 2013, Stefano a
produs i regizat primul su documentar, The Last Days of Tacheles.
After his master studies in TV journalism at the Italian Journalism school of Rai, Stefano
Casertano served as multi-media editor for various outlets in Europe, focusing on politics. In
2011 he also earned a Ph.D. Magna cum Laude at Potsdam University in Germany. After
various video productions for TV and Web-Magazines, in 2013 Stefano produced and directed
his first feature, The Last Days of Tacheles.
