Citete textul i realizeaz urmtoarele sarcini:


Locuiam n Oradea ntr-o cas cu parter nalt, n care din cele nou-zece camere, nirate de-a
lungul unei curi cu tei btrni, noi ocupam trei la un capt al cldirii. Celelalte erau nchise i
prsite ntr-un fel misterios, care nu putea s nu m atrag. Cred c aveam vreo 13-14 ani cnd am
aflat c ncperile ferecate conineau cri interzise din biblioteca fostei episcopii.
Am reuit s clintesc o balama nfipt n lemnul vechi al uii i am intrat cu sentimentul,
mprit ntre mndrie i spaim, al aventurii. Ceea ce am descoperit atunci ca i urmrile
descoperirii avea s-mi marcheze devenirea. N-o s uit niciodat uluirea primului moment, cnd,
reuind s ntredeschid ua, m-am trezit nu ntr-o ncpere, ci n faa unui munte. Un munte de cri
care se nla pn aproape de tavan, vrsate unele peste altele, neaezate mcar n stive. Am devenit
intelectual ncercnd s epuizez acel munte. mi amintesc c prima carte pe care am ridicat-o de jos a
fost volumul despre domniile fanariote, cred c al aptelea, din Istoria romnilor de A. D. Xenopol.
Am nceput s-o citesc chiar acolo, stnd n picioare, ca pe un roman captivant, i mi-am petrecut anii
urmtori cutnd n fascinantul haos al ncperilor secrete celelalte unsprezece volume pe care le-am
citit n ordinea ntmpltoare a gsirii. Aa am descoperit i am nvat istoria romnilor, ntr-un
ncnttor suspans, ca pe o mare aventur.
