ALEXANDRU CRISTIAN MADGEARU este cercetător ştiinţific gradul I în sectorul de istorie

militară, biroul de istorie modernă.

Este absolvent al Facultăţii de istorie-filosofie a Universităţii Bucureşti (1988). Doctor în istorie al
Universităţii Bucureşti (1997).
Profesor de istorie în învăţământul preuniversitar (1988-1991). La 1 decembrie 1991 a fost angajat
asistent de cercetare în Institutul de Istorie şi Teorie Militară.
Bursă post-doctorală Fulbright (Ohio State University 2002-2003). Premiul „Dimitre Onciul” al
Academiei Române (2016).
Membru în Comisia de Heraldică şi Denumiri a Ministerului Apărării Naţionale. Membru al
comitetului executiv al Societăţii Române de Studii Bizantine.
Principalele direcții de cercetare: istoria şi arheologia antichităţii târzii şi a evului mediu în spaţiul
sud-est european; istoria politică şi militară a Imperiului Bizantin; istoria militară modernă a
României.
A publicat 16 cărţi, dintre care 2 la Editura Brill (Leiden) şi 1 la Editura ScarecrowPress (Lanham),
precum şi circa 140 de studii în reviste ştiinţifice şi volume colective de studii din ţară şi străinătate,
începând din 1986. A prezentat comunicări la congresele internaţionale de studii sud-est europene şi
de studii bizantine, precum şi la diverse conferinţe interne şi internaţionale. A contribuit la editarea
seriei de volume de documente despre participarea României la Primul Război Mondial.

ALEXANDRU CRISTIAN MADGEARU is scientific researcher of rank I in the sector of

military history, bureau of modern history. He graduated at the Faculty of History-Philosophy of the
Bucharest University (1988). Doctor in history, University of Bucharest (1997).
History school teacher (1988-1991). Employed on 1st December 1991 as research assistent in the
Institue for History and Military History.
Fulbright post-doctoral fellowship (Ohio State University 2002-2003). The „Dimitre Onciul” Prize
of the Romanian Academy (2016).
Member in the Commission for Heraldry and Names of the Minstry of National Defence. Member
of the executive committee of the Romanian Society for Byzantine Studies.
His main research fields are: the history and archaeology of the Late Antiquity and of the Middle
Ages in the South-East European region; the political and military history of the Byzantine Empire;
the Romanian modern military history.
He published 16 books, among whom 2 at Brill (Leiden) and 1 at ScarecrowPress (Lanham), as well
as circa 140 studies in scientific journals and collective volumes in Romania and abroad, since
1986. He presented papers at the international congresses for South-East European and Byzantine
studies, and at various internal and external conferences. He contributed to the edition of the series
of volumes of documents dedicated to the participation of Romania at World War I.
