 May -când nu ești sigur de ceva anume in prezent sau viitor:

 Jack  may be  coming to see us tomorrow.(= Perhaps Jack will come to see us tomorrow.)
 Oh dear! It's half past ten. We  may be  late for the meeting    (= Perhaps we will be late for the meeting.)
 She's had no sleep. She  may be  tired    (= Perhaps she is tired.)

 May -petru a cere voie în mod politicos:

 May I borrow  the car tomorrow?-Pot să împrumut mașina mâine?
 May we come  a bit later?

 May -pentru a da permisiunea în mod politicos:

 You  may go  now.-Puteți să plecați acum
 You  may come  at eleven if you wish.-Puteți să veniți la 11 dacă doriți

 May – pentru a spune că cineva deține deja permisiunea ,într-un mod politicos
 Students  may travel  for free.-Studenții pot călători gratuit.

 May not -pentru a refuza permisiunea sau ca nu are deja permisiune in mod politicos: :
 You  may not  borrow the car until you can be more careful with it!-(Dumneavoastră)Nu puteți împrumuta mașina până
când veți fi mai prudent.
 Students  may not  wear jeans.Studenții nu pot purta jeans

 Might – folosit când nu suntem siguri de ceva în prezent sau viitor:

 I  might  see  you tomorrow.S-ar putea să te văd mâine.
 It looks nice, but it  might  be  very expensive.Arată bine îdar s-ar putea să fie scump.
 It's quite bright. It  might  not  rain today.Este foarte senin.S-ar putea să nu plouă azi.

 May have and might have – pentru a ghici/ presupune lucruri din trecut:

 I haven't received your letter. It  may have got  lost in the post.Nu am primit scrisoarea ta. S-ar putea să se fi
pierdut în poștă
 It's ten o'clock. They  might have arrived  by now.Este ora 10.Ei s-ar putea să fi ajuns până acum.

 Might-se foloseste ca și trecut simplu al unor cereri:

 They wanted to know if they  might come  later.Ei au vrut să știe dacă pot veni mai târziu.

 Might -mod foarte politicos pentru a cere permisiunea:

 Might we ask  you a question?-Se poate să vă întrebăm ceva?
 Might I just interrupt  for a moment?-Se poate să întrerup pentru un moment?
