INTRODUCERE

Bihorul, aflat ntr-un areal geografic echilibrat n ceea ce privete diversitatea formelor de
relief i generos n planul resurselor naturale, s-a remarcat de-a lungul mileniului al doilea i prin
activitatea, n cadrul comunitilor rurale, unor meteugari care au pus n circulaie obiecte cerute
de oamenii locului i nu numai. Treptat, aceste ndeletniciri tradiionale s-au dezvoltat spectacu-
los, n epoca modern ajungndu-se chiar la apariia unor sate specializate pe meteuguri care
s-au detaat, fiecare, prin produsele realizate, remarcabile prin valoare utilitar i calitate estetic
deopotriv.
Secolul al XVIII-lea a fost unul decisiv n dezvoltarea meteugurilor rneti din Bihor, mai
cu seam n lumea satelor romneti din depresiunea Beiuului, dar i n acelea maghiare sau slova-
ce. Este de remarcat evoluia spectaculoas, n acest domeniu, ntre 1700-1900, cnd documentele
de arhiv pomenesc despre existena a numeroi olari, lemnari, fierari, cojocari, sumnari etc., ce i
desfceau obiectele n trgurile Bihorului de atunci, respectiv la Beiu, Vacu, Beliu, Aled, Tinca,
Salonta, Oradea etc., precum i la altele mai ndeprtate, de pe teritoriul Europei Centrale, cum au
fost Giula, Debrecen etc.
Timp de peste de dou sute de ani, dinamica afirmrii meteugarilor rani n Bihor- dup
ce n evul mediu breslele din Oradea au dominat pieele regiunii - este remarcabil, aspect care
s-a materializat i n faptul c n multe aezri specializate n prelucrarea materiilor prime avute la
ndemn (Critiorul de Jos, Crpinet, Leheceni, Leleti, Slite de Vacu, Vadu Criului, Marghita,
Salonta, Tileagd - olrit; Vrzarii de Sus i de Jos, Briheni, Vacu, Chicu fierrit; Srbeti
sumnrit; Budureasa ldrit; Cresuia scrrit; Bor, Otomani, Slacea mpletituri din papur
i nuiele), la nceput de secol al XX-lea, aproape toi membrii unei aezri erau implicai n procesul
de finalizare a produselor specifice. Astzi, au supravieuit doar cteva dintre centrele vremurilor
trecute (Leheceni, Vadu Criului ceramic roie i alb; Budureasa lzi de zestre i hambare;
Cresuia scri; Bor mpletituri de nuiele; Drgoteni ou ncondeiate) care, n continuare, nu
fac dect s promoveze nc creaii de art popular autentic, la nivelul formelor i decorurilor.
Trebuie, ns, menionat aici i efortul unor sate romneti, maghiare, slovace din zonele etnogra-
fice Criul Alb, Criul Negru, Criul Repede, Barcu Crasna unde femeile se nvrednicesc, i n
contemporaneitate, s realizeze piese textile tradiionale (tergare, fee de mas etc.), de o elegan
cromatic inegalabil, destinate mai cu seam ambientrii interioarelor caselor, att din mediul rural,
ct i urban.
Dincolo de realitatea de acum cu privire la soarta meteugurilor de veche existen n re-
giune, creaiile prezentului trebuie s le percepem ca i expresie a unei arte populare care nu face
dect s confirme valoarea civilizaiei autohtone tradiionale, locul deinut de aceasta, secole de-a
rndul, n peisajul civilizaiei central i sud-est europene.

kzmves foglalkozsok ltvnyosan fejldtek, a modern korban pedig mr egsz falukzssgek
szakosodtak bizonyos tevkenysgekre s tntek ki az ltaluk ksztett termkek hasznossga s

A XVIII. szzad dnt jelentsg volt a bihari kzmvessg fejldse szempontjbl, kl-
nsen a belnyesi medencben elterl romn falvak szmra, de a magyar s szlovk falvakban is.
Megjegyzsre mlt az a ltvnyos fejlds, amely ezen a terleten az 1700-1900-as kztti idben
ment vgbe. A korabeli forrsok szmos fazekasrl, fafaragrl, kovcsrl, szcsrl stb. tesznek
emltst, akik az akkori bihari vsrokon rtkestettk portkjukat, a Belnyesben, Vaskoh, Bl,
lesd, Tenke, Nagyszalonta, Vrad vsrain, valamint tvolabb is, klnbz kzp-eurpai hely-

INTRODUCTION

Bihor County, located in an area geographically balanced in terms of diversity of landforms

and generous in terms of natural resources, was noted during the second millennium in rural com-
munities about the work of some craftsmen who have put objects required by local people and
beyond. Gradually, these traditional occupations have grown, in modern times even leading to the
emergence of specialized craft villages that were posted, each with the products, remarkable utility
value and aesthetic quality as well.
Eighteenth century was a decisive factor in the development of peasant handicrafts from
Bihor, especially in the Romanian villages in the Beiu depression, but also in Hungarian and Slovak
ones. It is noteworthy the developments in this area, between 1700-1900, when the archive docu-
ments mention the existence of many potters, carpenters, blacksmiths, furriers, etc. that stocked
their items in Bihor fairs then, respectively Beiu, Beliu, Aled, Tinca Salonta, Oradea and a little
more distant from the territory of Central Europe, as was Gyula, Debrecen, etc..
For over two hundred years, craftsmen dynamic assertion in Bihar after the medieval guilds of
Oradea markets dominated the region - is remarkable, something that has emerged and in many
settlements that specialized in processing raw materials at their reach (Critiorul de Jos Crpinet,
Leheceni, Leleti, Slite Vacu, Vadu Criului, Marghita, Salonta, Tileagd - pottery; Vrzarii de Sus
and Vrzarii de Jos, Briheni, Vacu, Chicu - blacksmithing, Budureasa wood boxes; Cresuia -
Ladder, Bors, Ottomani, Slacea - straw, rush and straw) at the beginning of the twentieth century,
almost all members of the settlement were involved in completing a specific product.
Today, only a few centers have survived a bygone era (Leheceni, Vadu Cris - red and white
pottery; Budureasa - chests and barns; Cresuia - scale; Bors -wattle; Dragoteni - painted eggs) that
are still unable merely to promote more authentic folk art creations in the shapes and decoration.
However, we noted here and the effort of Romanian villages, Hungarian, Slovak - ethnographic
areas Criul Alb, Criul Negru, Criul Repede, Barcu Crasna - where women are worthy, and
in modern times, to make traditional textile items (towels, tablecloths table, etc..), an elegance un-
matched color, especially for home interiors, both rural and urban.
Beyond the reality of nowdays with the fate of existence in the region of ancient crafts,
creations must perceive this as an expression of folk art not only confirms the value of traditional
indigenous civilization, the place it held for centuries, in the civilization of central and southeast
Europe.

Der Kreis Bihor, gelegen in einem ausgeglichenen geographischen Areal, was die Vielfaltigkeit
der Reliefformen angeht, und grozgigem in Bezug auf die natrlichen Ressourcen, hat sich whrend
des zweiten Millenniums auch durch die Ttigkeit einiger Handwerker innerhalb der Landgemeinden
bemerkt, die Gegenstnde, verlangt von den Einheimischen und nicht nur, vermarktet haben. Nach und
nach haben sich diese traditionellen Beschftigungen dramatisch entwickelt, in der modernen Epoche
kam es sogar zu der Entstehung einiger auf das Handwerk spezialisierten Drfer, die sich durch die her-
gestellten Produkte abgesondert haben, Produkte die bemerkenswert zugleich durch die Ntzlichkeit
und sthetische Qualitt sind.
Das XVIII-te Jahrhundert war ein entscheidendes fr die Entwicklung der buerlichen Hand-
werke in Bihor, insbesondere in der Welt der rumnischen Drfer im Tiefland von Beiu, aber auch
der ungarischen oder slowakischen. Die dramatische Entwicklung in diesem Bereich ist bemerkenswert,
zwischen 1700-1900, erwhnen die Archivdokumente zahlreiche Tpfer, Tischler, Schmiede, Pelzhn-
dler, Mantelhndler etc., die ihre Ware in den damaligen Messen aus Bihor verkauften, beziehungsweise
in Beiu, Vacu, Beliu, Aled, Tinca, Salonta, Oradea etc., sowie in anderen ferner gelegenen aus dem
Gebiet Zentraleuropas, wie Giula, Debrecen etc.
Fr ber zwei Jahrhunderte, ist die Dynamik der Besttigung der buerlichen Handwerker in
Bihor - nachdem im Mittelalter die Znfte aus Oradea die regionalen Mrkte beherrscht haben be-
merkenswert, Aspek der sich auch in der Tatsache verwirklicht hat, da in vielen Ansiedlungen spezi-
alisiert in der Verarbeitung der verfgbarean Rohstoffe (Critiorul de Jos, Crpinet, Leheceni, Leleti,
Slite de Vacu, Vadu Criului, Marghita, Salonta, Tileagd - Tpferei; Vrzarii de Sus und Vrzarii de
Jos, Briheni, Vacu, Chicu Schmiederei; Srbeti Mantelhndlerei; Budureasa Herstellung von
Aussteuertruhen; Cresuia Herstellung von Treppen; Bor, Otomani, Slacea Geflechte aus Schilfrohr
und Gerte), zu Beginn des XX-ten Jahrhunderts, fast alle Mitglieder einer Gemeinde im Fertigstellungs-
verfahren der typischen Produkte verwickelt waren. Heutzutage haben nur ein paar der Zentren der
vergangenen Zeiten berlebt (Leheceni, Vadu Criului rote und weie Keramik; Budureasa Auss-
teuertruhen und Kornspeicher; Cresuia Treppen; Bor Gertegeflechte; Drgoteni bemalene Eier);
diese frdern andauernd die Schpfungen der authentischen Volkskunst, was die Formen und das Dekor
angeht. Hier mu man aber auch noch die Bemhung einiger rumnischen, ungarischen, slowakisch-
en Drfer erwhnen aus den ethnographischen Gegenden Criul Alb, Criul Negru, Criul Repede,
Barcu Crasna wo sich die Frauen auch heutzutage wrdigen, traditionelle textile Teile anzufertigen
(Handtcher, Tischtcher etc.); diese sind von einer chromatischen unvergleichlichen Eleganz, bestimmt
vorzugsweise der inneren Ausstattung der Huser, sowohl im lndlichen Gebiet, als auch im stdtischen.
Jenseits der heutigen Realitt bezglich des Schicksals der alten Handwerke in der Gegend, ms-
sen wir die gegenwrtigen Schpfungen als Ausdruck einer Volkskunst vernehmen, die nur den Wert
der traditionellen einheimischen Zivilisation besttigt, den Platz den diese Jahrhunderte lang be-
sessen hat, in der Landschaft der zentral- und sdeuropischen Zivilisation.

Founded at the 15th of May 1956
by means of Csk Colomans do-
nation, the Natural Sciences Museum
from Tinca holds materials revealed by
its founders researches on the Black
Cris area. The collection is structured
on two domains: Geology and Zoology.
The Geology exhibition chronologically
presents the changes suffered by the
Tinca / Tenke, str. Avram Iancu nr. 57 crust of Earth in the Black Cris area.

Muzeul este organizat ntr-o gospodrie
rneasc, compus din cas de lo- keretei kztt mkdik, mely lakhz-
cuit, oproane i alte anexe. n vechea
gospodrie, modernizat n 1969, a fost
transferat o cas de lemn din Munii
Apuseni, n anul 1981, care adpostete
azi expoziia permanent de istorie i et-
nografie. Casa este extins, adugndu-i-
se un opron de cca. 200 mp iar curile
sunt i ele organizate ca spaii de de-
pozitare i expunere. Colecia a fost
constituit ncepnd cu anul 1968.

Gegrndet am 15. Mai 1956 durch
die Spende von Koloman Csaki,
enthlt das Naturgeschichte Musem aus
Tinca Materialien aus der von ihrem
Grnder durchgefhrte Forschung in
der Umgebung des Schwarzen Kreisch
Flusses. Die Sammlung ist in zwei Kate-
gorien Unterteilt: Geologie und Zoolo-
gie. Die Geologie Ausstellung prsenti-
ert die chronologischen Vernderungen
der Erdkruste im Bereich des Schwarzen
Kreisches.

Das Museum ist in einem buerlichen
Haushalt organisiert, bestehend aus einem
Haus, dem Schuppen und anderen Nebenge-
bude. In dem alten Haushalt, das im Jahr 1969
modernisiert wurde, wurde ein Holzhaus aus
dem Apuseni Gebirge im Jahre 1981 gebracht, in
dem heute die Dauerausstellung der Geschichte
und Ethnographie beherbergt wird. Das Haus
wurde durch einen Schuppen von etwa 200 qm
verlngert und die Hfer sind auch als Speicher-
platz und Ausstellung organisiert. Die Sammlung
ist seit 1968 etabliert.

Colecia personal a d-lui Burta
Marian, directorul colii din Izbuc,
cuprinde mai multe mii de piese, a
crui numr nici dnsul nu o cunoate.
Colecia de etnografie este rodul a pes-
te 30 de ani de cutri. Cuprinde sute
de farfurii pictate, candelabre, obiecte
de uz gospodresc, obiecte de mobilier,
tacmuri din lemn, ceasuri vechi, icoane
pe sticl, etc.
Mr. Burta Martians personal
collection, headmaster of the
school from Izbuc, includes thousands
of pieces, number that he himself does
not know for sure. The Ethnographic
collection is the result of more than 30
years of researches. It contains hun-
dreds of painted plates, chandeliers,
household objects, pieces of furniture,
wooden tableware, old watches, glass
icons, etc.

fost construit nainte de anul 1870. Este

The collector Keri Istvan organized
the museum in a rustic household,
composed by a residential house and
annexes. The house was built up before
1870. It is made of trodden soil and co-
vered with reed. It burned down at the
beginning of the 20th century, then it
was restored. Before the fire, it had an
open chimney, lower height and smaller
windows.

Persnliche Sammlung des Hrn.
Burta Martian, Direktor der Schule
aus Izbuc, umfasst mehrere tausend
Stcke, die genaue Anzahl wei nicht
mal der Besitzer. Die Ethnographie-
sammlung ist das Ergebnis von ber 30
Jahren Suche und beinhaltet Hunderte
von bemalte Teller, Leuchter, Hausrat,
Mbel, Holz Besteck, alte Uhren, Glas
Ikonen, usw.

Sammler in einem buerlichen
Haushalt bestehend aus einem Wohnhaus
und einem Nebengebude organisiert.
Das Wohnhaus wurde vor 1870 erbaut.
Es ist mit Schlamm und Schilf bedeckt.
Das Haus wurde Anfang des 20. Jhd. nie-
dergebrannt, und danach wieder in sei-
nem heutigen Form wiederaufgebaut. Bis
dahin hatte einen niedrigeren Schornstein
und kleinere Fenster.

A fost creat n ideea de a conserva o
parte din patrimoniul cultural al zonei.
Punctul muzeistic Remetea este gzduit
ntr-o casa rneasc ce dateaz de la n-
ceputul secolului XX. n cele dou came-
re sunt prezentate obiecte tradiionale,
cu specific romnesc i maghiar, iar
n curte se afl expuse o parte din
obiectele gospodreti tipice pentru
casele rneti din zon, ce se utilizau
odinioar att n gospodrie ct i
la munca cmpului.

Persnlichkeit, Dr. Ern Andrssy
(1894-1968), Arzt, Ornithologe und
Archologe benannt. Das Museum hat
eine Sammlung zum Gedenken von Dr.
Ern Andrssy, bestehend aus persnli-
chen Gegenstnden, Dokumenten und

It was created with the idea of pre-
serving part of the cultural patrimony
in the area. The Museological Station from
Remetea is located in a rustic household,
dating from the beginning of the 20th cen-
tury. In its two rooms, there are presented
traditional objects, specific to the Romanian
and Hungarian culture, and the yard is the
place where it were exposed representative
household objects for the peasant houses
in the area, objects used once both in the
household and at field works.
Es wurde fr die Erhaltung der
kulturellen Erbe der Region ge-
schaffen. Das Museumszentrum Remetea
ist in einem Bauernhaus aus dem frhen
zwanzigsten Jahrhundert beherbergt. In
den beiden Zimmer sind traditionelle
rumnische und ungarische Gegenstnde
und einige Haushaltsgegenstnde typisch
fr die Bauernhuser aus dieser Gegend,

obiecte arheologice aparinnd muzeu-
lui locului i Muzeului rii Criurilor

etc), ale dr. Wilhelm Sndor i medicu-
lui stomatolog Kri Istvn.
This is a museum under recon-
struction, consisting of archaeo-
logical objects from the local Museum
and Cris County Museum, but also of
private Ethnographic collections (fish-
ing, hunting, furniture, tools, etc) be-
longing to Dr. Wilhelm Sandor and to
Scueni / Szkelyhd, stomatologist Keri Istvan.

ectele personale ale poetului Arany J-
nos, cel mai mare poet epic al literaturii
maghiare, originar din Salonta. n perioa-
da 1885-1889 colecia a fost amenajat
ntr-o sal de clas a colii Generale
din Salonta. Dup restaurarea Turnului
Ciunt n 1898, colecia a fost adus n
incinta acestuia, unde funcioneaz i
astzi Muzeul Memorial Arany J-
nos.
The basic elements of the collec-
tion are Arany Janos personal
objects. He was the greatest epic poet
of the Hungarian literature, born in
Salonta. During 1885-1889, the collec-
tion was arranged in a classroom of the
Salonta Middle School. After the 1898
restoration of the Crippled Tower, the
Salonta / Nagyszalonta, Piaa Libertii 4 collection was brought here, where the

Die Sammlung besteht aus persn-
lichen Gegenstnde des Dichters
Jnos Arany, des grten ungarischen
epischen Dichter, der aus Salonta stam-
mte. Whrend 1885-1889 wurde die
Sammlung in einem Klassenzimmer in
Salonta Gymnasium ausgestellt. Nach
der Wiederherstellung des Stummen
Turmes im Jahr 1898 wurde die Sam-
mlung hierher gebracht, wo sie heute
noch zu besichtigen ist.

XVIII. Muzeul este dedicat memoriei a

The building itself was erected at
the end of the 18th century. The
Museum is dedicated to the memory
of three main personalities of the Hun-
garian culture: Kazinczy Ferenc (1759-
1831), poet and linguist, who contribu-
ted by his work at the modernization of
the Hungarian language, Frater Lorand
(Simian - 1930) composer and cultured
folk singer, and Csiha Kalman (1929 -

house was bought by the mu-
nicipal authority of Salonta, in 1908. In
1909, a memorial plaque was installed
on the house facade. In 2010 it was
completely restored, being included in
the round trip.

Muzeul este reprezentativ pentru is-
toria i etnografia depresiunii Beiu-
Vacu, respectiv bazinul superior al
Criului Negru. n prezent are o secie
de etnografie cu tematic de baz:
meteugurile populare, o secie de
istorie i dou sli de expoziii tempo-
rare. Dominanta coleciei este etnogra-
fia i arta popular (aproximativ 3.000
de piese).

for the history and ethnography
of the Beius-Vascau area, respectively
of Black Cris superior basin. Presently,
it has an ethnographic section with its
main theme: popular skills, a history
section and two halls for temporary ex-
hibitions. The main characteristic of the
collection is ethnography and popular
art (about 3.000 pieces).

eastern part, one can find Gheo-
rghe Pituts birth house, the regretted
poet and prose writer. The house still
holds its traditional character, specific to
Beius Country.

Das Museum ist stellvertretend
fr die Geschichte und Ethnog-
raphie der Depression Beiu- Vacu,
bzw. des oberen Beckens des Schwarzen
Kreisches. Heute enthlt es eine Ethnog-
raphieabteilung: Volkshandwerke, eine
Abteilung fr Geschichte und zwei tem-
porre Ausstellungshallen. Hauptthemen
der Ausstellung sind aber die Ethnogra-
phie und die Volkskunst-Sammlung (ca.
3.000 Stck).

Slite de Beiu, befindet sich das
Geburtshaus des verstorbenen Dich-
ter und Schriftsteller George Pitu. Das
Haus behlt eine traditionelle Atmos-

The inhabitants of these places

the ground level, with only one room.
Inside, right in the middle, they had
one or two fireplaces and a pit dug for
depositing the food. Only few houses
remained, of which worth to mention
are those from Cherechiu, Salacea and
Galospetru.

lars dug in the Gardon hills sides, cellars
which shelter the best wines in the area.
The biggest cellar belongs to Ur fam-
ily, who cultivates Muscat and Feteasca
vines on a surface of 13 hectares.

nige Huser sind davon verblieben, unter

tourists. The main characteristic of these
vineyards are, from ancient times, the
cellars on the hillsides, resembling with a
kind of lane. Nowadays, in Salacea, there
are almost 970 cellars dug in the hills

dezvoltarea acestei ramuri a fost susinut de
entuziasmul de experiena lui Zichy Ferenc, care
a transformat localitatea ntr-o veritabil zon

The vineyard of Diosig has a tradition
that goes back to the years 1569-1578.
After 1806, when Zichy family took in hand
the Diosig field, the development of this
branch was enthusiastically sustained by Zichy
Frencs experience, who transformed the re-
gion in a genuine wine region, famous through
entire Europe. We say this, because after
1860 the wines from Diosig participated at
Diosig numerous contests and won lots of rewards.
Diszeg Zichy Ferenc laid the foundation of the pro-
fessional viticulture in Bihor.

Die Weinkeller der Dorfbewoh-
ner ziehen viele Touristen an. Fr
diese Anbaugebiete sind charakteristisch
schon seit jeher die in den Hgeln ge-
bauten Keller, die eine Art Strae bilden.
Heute, sind in Slacea rund 970 Keller
bekannt und bilden die so genannte
Keller Strae. Die meisten wurden im
letzten Jahrhundert gebaut. Das lteste
stammt aus dem Jahr 1803.

bortermels alapjait megteremtette.
Der Weinbau aus Diosig hat eine Tra-
dition, die bis in den Jahren 1569-1578
zurckgeht. Nach 1806, als die Zichy Familie
Diosig bernahm, wurde die Entwicklung
des Weinbaus durch die Begeisterung Fe-
renc Zichy untersttzt, der das Gebiet in ein
berhmtes Weinbauort in Europa verwandel-
te. Nach 1860 nahmen Weine aus Diosig an
mehreren internationalen Wettbewerben teil,
wo sie zahlreiche Auszeichnungen erhielten.
Ferenc Zichy war der Grnder des profes-
sionellen Weinbaus in Bihor.

A Szkelyhd-i borpinck
Prima meniune despre practicarea viti-
culturii n Scueni este de la sfritul se-
colului XVI. Cel mai renumit viticultor a
fost contele Stubenberg, acesta mbutelia
vinul n imensa pivni de sub castelul su,
actualmente monument de arhitectur,
dar nevizitabil. n anul 2008 primria a
amenajat aa-zisul Drum al vinului, de o
parte i cealalt a strzii avnd numero-
ase pivnie ale localnicilor, unele datnd
din anul 1790. Scueniul are peste
200 de pivnie spate n pmnt.
The practice of viticulture in Sacueni
was first mentioned by the end of the
16th century. The most famous winegrower
was Stubenberg Count. He bottled the wine
in the huge cellar under his castle, nowa-
days architectural monument, unfortunately
closed for visitors. In 2008, the City Hall ar-
ranged the so-called Wine Lane, on both
sides of the street, with numerous cellars,
some of them dating from 1790, and belong-
ing to the inhabitants. Sacueni has over 200
wine cellars in the ground.
Plinca de Bihor
A Bihar-i plinka Palinca, the Brandy of Bihor
Este o marc de butur spirtoas tradiional Hagyomnyos romn szeszes ital. A termk
romneasc din judeul Bihor. Este un produs
cu denumire geografic protejat i recunoscut
n Romnia. Plinca de Bihor se obine prin
dubl distilare din fructe fermentate. Se folosesc
mai ales prune, dar i mere, pere, gutui, piersici
i alte fructe. Distilarea se realizeaz n cazane
speciale de cupru, cu spiral dubl de rcire.
Produsul finit are un coninut ridicat de alcool,
cu o trie de 50 de grade. Printre satele unde
se produce plinc enumerm Ceica, Pomezeu,
Topa de Sus, Biharia, Tulca etc.
This is the traditional Romanian liquor
in Bihor. It is a product with a geo-
graphical protected trade name. Palinca
in Bihor is obtained of fermented fruits by
double distillation. It is usually produced of
plums, but apples, pears, peaches, quince and
other fruits are also used. The distillation is
realized in special caldrons made of copper,
with double cooling coil. The finite product is
a strong drink, containing 50% pure alcohol.
The brandy is produced in Ceica, Pomezeu,
Topa de Sus, Biharia, Tulca, etc .

Gemeinde die sogenannte Weinstrae
eingerichtet, auf beiden Seiten der Scueni / Szkelyhd,
Strae mit zahlreichen Keller, einige sog- Piaa Libertii nr. 4

len rumnischen Schnapses des Kreises
Bihor. Der Palinka enthlt eine geografische Be-
zeichnung und wird in Rumnien anerkannt. Der
Palinka von Bihor wird durch doppelte Destillation
von vergorenen Frchten gewonnen. Es warden
vor allem Pflaumen und pfel, Birnen, Quitten,
Pfirsiche oder auch andere Frchte bentzt. Die
Destillation wird in speziellen Kupferkesseln mit
doppelter Khlungsspirale. Das fertige Produkt www.bihar-bihor
hat einen hohen Alkoholgehalt, mit einer Strke

Bihorul dispune, comparativ cu alte
zone din ar, de o baz biologic
mai bun (familiile de albine), o baz
material i de producie mai bun, ct termelsi alapokkal, illetve j szakem-

metalic. Cel mai cunoscut meter al acestor
viori este Dorel Codoban din satul La-
zuri de Roia.
The violin with horn is a musical
instrument that hallmarked the folk-
lore in Bihor county, rendering folk music
an effect of authenticity. This instrument
is attested since the beginning of the 20th
century. It is constructed of a violin having
attached a trumpet and a special compo-
nent of the former phonographs, element
which amplifies the sound, giving the in-
strument a metallic tint. The most famous
craftsman of these violins is Dorel Codo-
ban, from Lazuri de Rosia village.

Die Geige mit Horn ist ein Volksin-
strument, das das Folklore aus Bi-
hor geprgt hat. Dieses Instrument wird
in diesen Orten seit Anfang des zwanzig-
sten Jahrhunderts zertifiziert. Das Instru-
ment besteht aus einer Violine, die einen
Horn und einem Bestandteil der alten
Phonographen, ein Element, das den Ton
verstrkt, und ihm einen metallischen
Unterton hinzufgt. Der bekannteste
Geigenbauer aus dieser Gegend ist Dorel
Codoban Lazuri de Rosia.

Realizat din lemn, la Roia, este singura
moar tradiional funcional din judeul
Bihor. A fost ridicat la sfrit de secol
XIX. Moara poate fi vizitat pe tot par-
cursul zilei, proprietarul, dl. Burtic Gheo-
rghe, locuind chiar acolo, dnsul prac-
ticnd morritul de o via.

traditional and still functional mill
from Bihor county, made by wood. It
was built by the end of the 19th century.
The mill can be visited all day long. Its
owner, Mr. Burtic Gheorghe, lives right
there and practices milling for a lifetime.
Die Holzmhle in Rosia ist die
einzige traditionelle Mhle im Kreis
Bihor, die noch funtionsfhig ist. Die
Mhle wurde Ende des 19. Jhd. erbaut.
Die Mhle kann den ganzen Tag besich-

Vrritul (sau arderea pietrei de var) este o
ndeletnicire tradiional a oamenilor din zona
Roia (Roia i Meziad) i din jurul oraului
Vacu (Izbuc, Briheni), datorit faptului c
aceti muni sunt formai cu preponderen
din calcar. Acest meteug se practic i n
prezent, ns cu o intensitate mai mic dect
n trecut, totui mai putei gsi cuptoare de
var n satele mai sus menionate.
A mszgets (vagy a mszk kigetse) A
Biharrsa-i krnyk (Biharrsa s Mzged),
valamint a Vaskoh krnyki teleplsek
(Vaskohaszd, Berhny) lakosai krben
elterjedt hagyomnyos mestersg, mi-
vel a krnykbeli hegyek fleg mszkbl
kpzdtek. Ezt a mestersget napjainban is
zik, igaz, hogy kevesebben, mint a mltban,
de a fentebb emltett falvakban a mai napig
megtallhatk a mszget kemenck.

Lime burning (or burning the lime-
stone) is peoples traditional craft in
Rosia region (Rosia and Meziad) and the
areas near Vascau (Izbuc, Briheni), due to
the fact that these mountains are formed
predominantly of limestone. This craft is
still practiced, but with a lower intensity
than in the past, yet one can find lime kilns
in the villages above mentioned.

tigung de Leute aus dem Rosia Gebiet
(Rosia und Meziad) und aus der Stadt

Familia Halsz i Szolga Iuliana sunt ultimii
care mai practic acest meteug. Faima
acestui centru rnesc de ceramic alb
a ajuns chiar i la curtea fostului dicta-
tor, acesta comandnd vase din lut ct
mrimea unui om, pentru Palatul Cotro-
ceni.
In ancient times, half of the popu-
lation in Vadu Crisului was con-
cerned in pottery, the craft inherited
from former generations. The Halasz
and Szolga Iuliana families are the last
ones who still practice pottery. The
fame of this peasant center spread rap-
idly, even to the former dictators court.
He ordered big clay vessels for Cotro-
ceni Palace.

Satul Leheceni este cunoscut ca i un
centru de ceramic roie, unde i n
zilele noastre se produc un numr mare
de piese tradiionale, cele mai cunos-
cute fiind blidele de Leheceni, ornate
cu spiral, roat i creast. Singurul olar
care practic acest meteug in mod
tradiional, Raul Boce, la doar 8 ani a
avut primul contact cu roata olarului,
datorit bunicului su.

the center of red ceramics, where
nowadays many traditional pieces are
still produced, the most famous being
the porringers from Leheceni, decora-
ted with snails, wheels and combs. The
only potter who practices presently this
craft is Raul Bocse, who thanks to his
grandfather, had the first contact with
the potters wheel at the age of 8.

crarea lemnului i creterea animalelor.
Este singura localitate din ar unde se
mai fac scri de lemn. Denumirea satu-
lui provine de la cuvntul crepsuli, o
component a scrii. Cresuia e centru
unic specializat n scrrit pentru tot
vestul rii.
The concerns of the inhabitants of
Cresuia village were, from imme-
morial times, the processing of wood and
animal breeding. This is the single locality
in the country, where wood ladders are
still manufactured. The name of the village
comes from crepsuli, a component of
the ladder. Cresuia is the last center, in the
western part of the country, specialized in
the wood ladder manufacturing.

Cresuia Dorfbewohner waren seit
jeher die Holzbearbeitung und die Vieh-
zucht. Es ist die einzige Ortschaft des
Landes, wo noch traditionelle Holzleiter
gebaut werden. Der Name des Dorfes
kommt von dem Wort crepsuli, ein
Teil der Leiter.

mesei, sub geamuri. Ea era dobndit
cu ocazia cstoriilor i exprima starea
social a unei familii. Cererea mare, pre-
cum i specificul formei i decoraiunii, a
fcut posibil specializarea unor meteri,
cu deosebire la Budureasa, dar i Burda,
Cresuia, sau Pietroasa. Cel mai cunoscut
meter din zon este Ioan Oancea
din Budureasa.

Tradiia pictrii de icoane se pierde n ne-
gura timpurilor, fiind strns legat de biseric,
mai ales de cea ortodox. Icoanele pe lemn
sunt asociate mai ales numeroaselor biserici
de lemn din judeul Bihor, aici avnd muli
meteri locali care au pictat icoanele din bi-
serici, dar i meteri renumii din ar (David
Zugravu de la Curtea de Arge, Nechita Zu-
gravul, Ioan Lopoan etc). Dintre artitii care
picteaz icoane i amintim pe Claudia Boce
(Beiu), Alina Miron (Snmartin) sau
Lajos Pongrcz (Oradea).

the church, especially with the Orthodox cult.

county, rich in skilled craftsmen who painted the
icons. There are also famous craftsmen across

isierung der Handwerker ermglicht, be-
sonders in Budureasa, aber auch in Burda,

meseriile artizanale vechi motenite de la o generaie la alta au o tradiie bogat. Meteugari populari
recunoscui pstreaz i transmit manevrele de specialitate, metodele de procedare. Ceramica neagr din
Ndudvar care se fabric cu o strveche tehnic special de ardere, este foarte popular. La Hajdnns,
mpletirea pii are un trecut nsemnat. La Debrecen i Hajdbszrmny se pstreaz procedeul preparrii
turtei dulci. n localitatea cea din urm, meseria fabricrii curelei are un trecut considerabil. Arta popular a
regiunii este inspirat n mod special de lumea pstorilor din Hortobgy. Motenitorii acestei lumi sunt biciu-
rile cu inel, plosca mpodobit, tocul de briceag din piele. Este caracteristic broderia al dulami din regiunea
Hajdsg i plriile pstoreti fabricate cu un procedeu tradiional din material psl.

tobgy prezint viaa, uneltele de munc, obiectele de uz decorate ale pstorilor care lucrau munc grea,
nfruntndu-se cu natura.
Gustul mncrurilor cu caracter rnesc din judeul Hajd-Bihar este foarte popular. Specialitile
gastronomice caracteristice locului sunt mncrurile gtite n ceau la foc liber, conform tradiiilor din pust.
Mncarea caracteristic a pstorilor din Hortobgy este slambuc-ul, ingredientele de baz fiindu-i zdrenele
frmntate, cartofii i slnina. Mncruri caracteristice ungureti gtite la ceaun sunt tocnia de oaie i gulaul
din regiunea Hajdsg. Gustul inimibatil al mncrurilor se datoreaz ingredientelor locale (oi urcane, bovine

Debrecen este perechea din Debrecen. Pe baza reetei originale, crnaul pregtit cu mna, afumat un pic,

Perechea din Debrecen este o component indispensabil a sarmalelor din Debrecen, gtite din mai multe
feluri de carne mcinat. Aperetivul popular al buctriei maghiare sunt plcintele cu carne din Hortobgy,

INTRODUCTION

The multi-coloured folk culture of Hajd-Bihar County is also well-known across the borders also.
Hajdsg (the Heyducks region) has a long tradition of old handicraft trades. Renowned folk artists-crafts-
men preserve and pass on the tricks and technologies of the trade. The black ceramics from Ndudvar,
made with a special burning technology, is world-famous. Straw braiding has a long tradition in Hajdnns.
Debrecen and Hajdbszrmny have preserved the old tradition of making honey-cakes with a beating
rod. In Hajdbszrmny, harness-making has a long tradition. A special inspiration for the folk art in the
countryside is given by shepherds life in Hortobgy. All this heritage is echoed in the carved-handled ringed
whips, the ornamented water-tanks, leather pocket-knife cases, special white embroidery patterns charac-
teristic to the area and the specially-made felt-based shepherds hats.
Visitors can try and learn the traditions, the tricks of the trade in the workshops and creative cen-
tres. The most varied programs are provided by the Craftsman Court in Hortobgy Visitors Centre and the
Tanner House in Debrecen.
Folk architecture has been preserved in house museums preserve in several villages. Old belongings,
furniture and objects are displayed in the faithfully represented peasant houses and sheds.
Cattle used to be reared in the open-air all-year-round in the puszta (steppe) of Hortobgy; they
were driven to simple structures in winter to protect them from the bad weather. The life of hard-working

stew Hajdsg style and goulash. The unique flavour of dishes comes from the special local ingredients (the
meat of Racka sheep, the Hungarian Grey cattle and the Mangalica pig), the spices and the cooking procedure
over the open fire. The world-famous sausages of Debrecen are called debreceni pros (spicy frankfurters
from Debrecen). According to the original recipe, the hand-made, slightly smoked sausages should be boiled
in hot water, then eaten alone, with mustard or vinegary horse-radishes. Debreceni pros is an indispen-
sable ingredient of stuffed cabbage Debrecen style, made from different kinds of minced meat. A popular
starter of the Hungarian dishes is pancakes with meat filling Hortobgy style, where the pancakes are filled
with chicken breast stewed with paprika.
Hortobgy Inn is still working and awaits the guests with unadulterated Hungarian dishes. The unique flavour
of the wide variety of dishes is guaranteed by the traditional ingredients, which come from the organic hus-
bandry of Hortobgy National Park.

gion. Interesting programs of craftsmanship and local traditions as well as sports facilities await the

Heiduckenland verfgen alte Handwerkergewerbe, die von einer Generation zur nchsten weitergeben worden sind,
ber eine reiche Tradition. Griffe einzelner Berufe und Verfahrensweisen werden von anerkannten Kunstgewerblern
bewahrt und weitergegeben. Die Schwarzkeramik aus Ndudvar, die durch eine alte, spezielle Brenntechnik hergestellt
wird, ist weit und breit bekannt. In Hajdnns verfgt Strohflechten ber eine bedeutende Tradition.
Das alte Verfahren der Zubereitung von Lebkuchen mit einem Schlagholz wird in Debrecen und Hajdbszr-
mny noch heute weitergefhrt. In der letztgenannten Siedlung blickt Sattlerei auf eine lange Tradition zurck. Die Welt
der Hirten in Hortobgy dient als eine eigenartige Inspiration fr die Volkskunst der Region. Aus diesem Erbe stammen
Hetzpeitschen mit geschnitztem Stiel, verzierte Feldflaschen und Lederfutterale fr Klappmesser. Weistickerei und auf
Fellen angebrachte Stickerei, sowie aus Filz mit einem traditionellen Verfahren gefertigte Hirtenhte sind fr Heiduck-
enland charakteristisch.
Besucher haben die Mglichkeit, Traditionen und Griffe einzelner Berufe in mehreren Werksttten und Volks-
kunsthusern zu probieren. Die abwechslungsreichsten Mglichkeiten werden im Handwerkerhof des Hortobgyer
Besucherzentrums, sowie im Debrecener Tmrhz (Gerberei) geboten.
Die damaligen Baumethoden sind in zahlreichen Siedlungen, in den Heimatsmuseen aufbewahrt. In den Bau-
ernhusern und Wirtschaftsgebuden mit zeitgetreuer Einrichtung knnen damals verwendeten, heute bereits vergos-
senen Gerte, Mbelstcke und Einrichtungsgegenstnde kennen gelernt werden.
Auf der Hortobgyer Puszta wurde Vieh extensiv, im ganzen Jahr im Freien auf der Weide gehalten, im Winter
wurden sie nur mit den einfachsten Bauen vor der Unbill des Wetters geschtzt. Leben, Arbeitsinstrumente und verzi-
erte Gebrauchsgegenstnde der Hirten, die den Krften der Natur trotzen und hart arbeiten mussten, sind im Meggyes
Tschardamuseum und im Hortobgyer Hirtenmuseum ausgestellt.
Die Geschmackswelt der landschaftsartigen Gerichte des Komitats Hajd-Bihar ist weit und breit bekannt.
Typische Spezialitten der lokalen Gastronomie sind die nach Traditionen der Puszta auf offenem Feuer, im Kessel
zubereiteten Gerichte. Ein typischer Eintopf der Hortobgyer Hirten ist Slambuc (Schlambutz), dessen Zutaten gekne-
teter Feckerlteig, Kartoffeln und Speck sind. Typische, im Kessel zubereitete Hungarika sind auch Hammelprklt
vom Heiduckenland und Gulasch. Der unnachahmliche Geschmack der Essen ist den verwendeten lokalen Grundstof-
fen (Zackelschaf, Graurind und Mangaliza), sowie Gewrzen und der Zubereitung auf offenen Feuer zu danken. Deb-
reziner ist eine nach der Stadt Debrecen genannte, weltbekannte Wurst. Die nach der originalen Rezeptur, mit den
Hnden gefertigte, leicht gerucherte Wurst wird in heiem Wasser gekocht, und ohne etwas oder mit Senf, bzw. mit
Meerrettich und Essig serviert. Debreziner ist eine unentbehrliche Zutat des Debrecener gefllten Krauts, das mit ver-
schiedenen Arten von Hackfleisch zubereitet wird. Eine beliebte Vorspeise der ungarischen Kche sind Palatschinken
Hortobgyer Art, wobei in Palatschinkenteig mit Paprikapulver zubereitete Hhnerbrust gefllt wird.
Die noch heute funktionerende Hotrobgyer Tscharda empfngt ihre Gste mit ungarischen Spezialitten.
Der Geschmack ihrer breiten Speisenauswahl wird durch die traditionellen ungarischen Grundstoffen garantiert, die
aus der Bio-Wirtschaft des Hortobgyer Nationalparks stammen.

style, porched, gable-roofed houses and
sheds, all built at the turn of the 18th and
the 19th centuries. The museal houses
accommodate ovens, open stoves and
other equipment featuring the lifestyle
and folk architecture of the time.

Gulasch ist die berhmteste ungarische

und war allgemein beliebt unter der brgerlichen

giunii. Pot fi vizitate atelierele estorului,
productorului de ub, cizmarului,
curelarului, olarului i fierarului, ateliere
amenajate conform epocii. Alturi de
acestea, hangarul n cerc gzduiete
i expoziii periodice.

geffnet, dass Hotrobgy Teil des
Weltkulturerbes worden ist, und stellt
typische Handwerke der Region eigenar-
tig, in Form von lebenden Bildern dar.
Die Besucher knnen unter anderem die
zeitgetreu eingerichteten Werksttten
eines Webers, Hirten und Schuba- und
Szrschneiders (mit Stickerei verzierter
Bauernmantel), Stiefelmachers, Sattlers,
Tpfers und Schmieds besichtigen. Im
Rundschuppen werden auerdem tem-
porre Ausstellungen organisiert.

This is the first resting park that exhibits
archaeological relics and the history of
the region in Hungary. The five-hectare area
is situated in authentic historical surroundings,
which make visitors feel as if they were tra-
velling in time. In the park a Neolithic house
is exhibited exclusively here in the Carpathian
Basin. Additionally, several yurts and ethno-
graphic houses showing the everyday life of
the peoples that formerly lived in the region
may be seen in the park. Also, copies of the
archaeological findings are exhibited for the
public.
