For you are above all rule and authority and power and dominion
and every name being named, not only in this age but also in the coming
one. Beside you stand a thousand thousands and a myriad myriads of
angels, archangels, thrones, dominions, principalities and powers. Beside
you stand the two most-honored six-winged seraphim. With two wings
they cover the face, and with two the feet, and with two they fly;
sanctifying. With them receive also our sanctification as we say: Holy,
holy, holy Lord of Sabaoth; heaven and earth are full of your glory. Full
is heaven and full also is the earth of your majestic glory, Lord of powers.
Fill also this sacrifice with your power and with your participation. For to
you we offered this living sacrifice, the unbloody offering.
To you we offered this bread, the likeness of the body of the only-
begotten. This bread is the likeness of the holy body. For the Lord Jesus
Christ, in the night when was handed over, took bread, broke it, and gave
to his disciples, saying: Take and eat, this is my body which is broken for
you for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, we also offered the bread
making the likeness of the death. And we implore you through this
sacrifice, God of truth: be reconciled to us all and be merciful. And as this
bread was scattered over the mountains and, when it was gathered
together, became one, so also gather your holy church out of every nation
and every region and every city and village and house, and make one
living catholic church. And we also offered the cup, the likeness of the
blood. For the Lord Jesus Christ, taking a cup after supper, said to the
disciples: Take, drink, this is the new covenant, which is my blood poured
out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, we also offered the cup
presenting the likeness of blood. God of truth, let your holy Word come
upon this bread in order that the bread may become body of the Word,
and upon this cup in order that the cup may become blood of truth.
And make all those who partake to receive a medicine of life for the
healing of every illness, and for the strengthening of every advancement
and virtue, not for condemnation, God of truth, nor for testing and
reproach. For we called upon you, the uncreated, through the only-
begotten in holy Spirit. Let this people receive mercy. Let them be made

paharul , aducând o asemănare a Sângelui.
Epicleza 2:

The Sacramentary of Serapion of Thmuis – its place and importance in the history
and evolution of the Holy Liturgy and the Book of Liturgy
Abstract
The Sacramentary of Serapion, bishop of Thmuis, is the oldest liturgical corpus
and the most important one of the 1st Christian millennium that has been preserved. The
study entitled The Sacramentary of Serapion of Thmuis: Its Place and Importance in the
History and Evolution of Liturgy and Liturgy Book is structured in six parts: a) the first
80 Prof.dr.pr. Viorel Sava
part contains information regarding the life and activity of Bishop Serapion; b) the
second part presents a general bibliography regarding this document, starting with the
first edition published by A Dmitrijewskij in 1894 to the last edition published at Rome
by Maxwell E. Johnson in 1995, as part of the Orientalia Christiana Analecta collection.
This second part ends with a Romanian bibliography; c) The Liturgical Anaphora from
The Sacramentary of Serapion contains three specific elements: 1 – the presence of
Sanctus Hymn; 2 – the presence of two Epicleses , the second being addressed to the
Logos; 3 – the diptychs in the final part of the Anaphora. In this part are also presented
the opinions of the researchers regarding the structure of this Anaphora and its specific
elements and also our personal opinions; d) the fourth part analyses other prayers from
The Sacramentary, prayers that were an integrant part of the Divine Liturgy; e) in the
fifth part, the study presents The Sacramentary as a predecessor of the two most
important cult books for the Orthodox Spirituality: The Liturgy Book and The
Euchologion; f) the last section of our study points out the importance of The
Sacramentary to the study of Divine Liturgy’s History, being a scientific contribution to
this theme. For the Romanian Liturgical Theology this study brings new information and
was appreciated by Romanian theologians gathered at the Third National Congress of the
Orthodox Theological Faculties from Romania, November 10-13, 2008.
