Templul Coral din București, este un monument istoric naţional, construit între
anii 1864 - 1866, la iniţiativa lui Isaac Leib Weinberg, după planurile
arhitectului vienez Ludwig von Forster. Este o replică a Sinagogii
Tempelgasse din Viena (care a dispărut în timpul celui de al Doilea Război
Mondial).
The Choral Temple in Bucharest is a national historical monument, built between 1864
and 1866, at the initiative of Isaac Leib Weinberg, according to the plans of the
Viennese architect Ludwig von Forster. It is a replica of the Tempelgasse Synagogue in
Vienna (which disappeared during World War II).
Templul Coral este sinagoga Comunităţii Evreilor din Bucureşti şi cel mai
important centru spiritual al evreilor din România. În faţa intrării în templu,
a fost inaugurat, în anul 1991, Monumentul în memoria victimelor
Holocaustului din România (opera arhitectului Mihail Caffe).
The Choral Temple is the main synagogue of the Jewish Community in
Bucharest and the most important spiritual center of the Jews in Romania. In
front of the entrance to the temple there is the Monument in memory of the
victims of the Holocaust in Romania which was inaugurated in 1991 (the work
of the Jewish Sephardic architect Mihail Caffe).
1857 -“Ideea construirii unui Templu Coral, după modelul celor din
Occidentul Europei, s-a cristalizat în anii 1856-1857. Nu întâmplător,
atunci era în preajma Unirii Principatelor. Evreii sperau că România va
deveni un stat modern, după model occidental, şi că prevederile
programatice formulate în timpul Revoluţiei din 1848, privind rezolvarea
problemei evreieşti, se vor transforma în realitate”.(Dr.Lya Beniamin)
- “The idea of building a Coral Temple, following the model of those in Western
Europe, crystallized in 1856-1857. Not coincidentally, it was close to the event of
the Union of Romanian Principalities. The Jews hoped that Romania would
become a modern state, following the Western model, and that the programmatic
provisions formulated during the Revolution of 1848, regarding the solution of the
Jewish problem, would become a reality.”(Dr/ Lya Beniamin)
1941- În timpul pogromului din 23-21 ianuarie 1941, sfântul lăcaş a fost
atacat…”de o bandă de cca 30 de rebeli. Credincioşii veniţi la rugăciunea de
seară au fost reţinuţi şi apoi conduşi, câte doi, la sediul C.M.L. „Ing Gh.
Clime” din Calea Călăraşilor nr. 37, unde au suferit îngrozitoare maltratări. O
parte dintre ei au fost duși în pădurea Jilava şi împuşcați. Au fost astfel ucişi:
cantorul Ozias Kopstuk, care la ora 5, sub paza rebelilor, a mai oficiat ultimul
serviciu divin; coristul Klerman Andrei; Jean Jacques Adlersberg care venise
să rostească rugăciunea pentru odihna sufletului mamei sale; Pincas Elias,
Maier Marcus, intendentul templului, François Heller, Nathan Herşcovici.”

-During the pogrom of January 23-21, 1941, the sanctuary was attacked by a gang of
about 30 rebels. The congregation who came to the evening prayer was detained and
then taken, two by two, to the headquarters of the C.M.L. „Ing Gh. Clime” from
Calea Călăraşilor no. 37, where they suffered terrible ill-treatment. Some of them
were taken to the Jilava forest and shot. The following were killed: the singer Ozias
Kopstuk, who at 5 o'clock, under the guard of the rebels, officiated the last divine
service; chorister Klerman Andrei; Jean Jacques Adlersberg who had come to say the
prayer for the rest of his mother's soul; Pincas Elias, Maier Marcus, the steward of
the temple, François Heller, Nathan Herscovici." (Dr Lya Beniamin)
1941- Printre rabinii care au slujit în acest sfânt lăcaş au fost: Antoine Levy
(1867-1869); dr. M. Beck (1873-1921); dr. I.I. Niemirower (1922-1939); dr
M.A. Halevy (1940-1944); dr. Alexandru Şafran (1940-1947); dr. Moses
Rosen (1948-1994).
- Among the rabbis who served in this sanctuary were: Antoine Levy (1867-1869);
Dr. M. Beck (1873-1921); Dr. I.I. Niemirower (1922-1939); Dr. M.A. Halevy
(1940-1944); Dr. Alexandru Şafran (1940-1947); Dr. Moses Rosen (1948-1994).
1945- templul a fost complet renovat în 1945, sub coordonarea arhitectului
Iuliu Leoneanu. A suferit la cutremurul din 1940 dar și în timpul devastării
legionare dîn ianuarie 1941.
-Damaged by the earthquake of November 10, 1940, devastated by the legionaries
in January 1941, the temple was completely renovated in 1945, under the
coordination of the architect Iuliu Leoneanu.
1990- La 12 ianuarie 1990 s-a oficiat primul serviciu divin în memoria eroilor
căzuţi în timpul Revoluţiei. Începe o nouă eră în viaţa Templului Coral. La
comemorarea din 1991 a victimelor pogromului din ianuarie 1941 au
participat, pentru prima oară, reprezentanţi ai guvernului, ai bisericilor
creştine, membri ai Corpului Diplomatic. (dr. Lya Beniamin)
-On January 12, 1990, the first divine service was held in memory of the heroes
who fell during the 1989 Revolution. A new era begins in the life of the Coral
Temple. The commemoration of the victims of the January 1941 pogrom in 1991
was attended, for the first time, by representatives of the government, of the
Christian churches, members of the Diplomatic Corps. (Dr. Lya Beniamin)
2007-2015 - Federaţia Comunităţilor Evreieşti din România - Cultul Mozaic
a efectuat între anii 2007-2015 lucrările complexe de consolidare,
restaurare şi conservare a clădirii, cu finanţare proprie şi sprijin financiar
de la Guvernul României, Primăria Capitalei şi Fundaţia Caritatea.
-- The Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania - The Mosaic Cult carried
out with its own financing between 2007-2015 the complex works of consolidation,
restoration and conservation of the building, also with the financial support from
the Romanian Government, the City Hall and the Caritatea Foundation. In 2015
was inaugurated in the presence of the President of Romania Klaus Johannis, the
Patriarch of the Orhtodox Church, Daniel and many other state personalities.
