OBIECTIVE SPECIFICE
7
formatori.

GUIDELINES
17
GENERAL OBJECTIVES
Creating a real capacity to integrate graduates into the Romanian and European
cultural market by raising the level of information, professionalism, knowledge, and
practical skills of immediate necessity, to complement theoretical knowledge by
maximizing their efficacity towards the authentic stage activity.
Approaching the international level of performance in the fields of vocal arts and
performing arts: opera, operetta, musical, vocal-symphonic, chamber music, lied.
Creation of the high-performance context required to achieve international level,
enabling participants to become prize-winners at competitions accredited by the
World Federation of International Music Competitions and similar bodies.
18
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Within our last year’s project, we identified and used some new, modern principles
and methods. These will correct the obsolete and non-functional aspects of artistic
education intended for the professional musical performers. We will continue these
two main paths: the additional documentation and studying the applicability of
know-how in the most advanced countries in the field. We will organize mini events
built on the pattern of the 3 systems observed last year: the training system
(learning, rehearsals), performance testing (training camp and competition)
orientation to the multi-disciplinary show (sequences from shows).
We will go even further on the institutional development directions that were
reached in previously funded project. Not only on an artistic level but also on the
scientific one, we will opt for the quality training provided by top international
trainers. We wish to acquire quantifiable results.
Although there is a high demand on the labor market, it cannot be covered by our
students, who are not properly prepared for the specific requirements of big
theaters, challenging directors, demanding conductors, harsh managers. Going to
castings either does not bring them roles or sends them to long training sessions.
These additional courses would be their only chance to learn the necessary skills.
According to the experience from the previous project, the training of the
accompanists is also superficial and outdated and does not allow them to obtain
notable results in their work with the soloists. Last year the first steps have already
been taken to correct this situation and this year we will continue. The results are
already spectacular; 3 of the 6 piano students who were part of the 2019 project
received work offers from abroad, because of the performances they have
achieved.
The psychological and repertory strategies for competitions and auditions set by
employers will also be reconsidered, based on last year's observations and new
exchanges of experience.
The potential development that was highlighted by the 2019 project is remarkably
high. We understood that through the arrangements we made with universities,
competitions, entertainment institutions, museums, cultural memory, embassies,
foreign cultural centers, economic agents.
We will also continue the workshops and masterclasses for vocal-coaches and
accompanists we have started last year. Thus, we will disseminate the methods and
to connect them with the news of the field. Participation in such training programs
for coaches will ensure the rise of the knowledge level. It will also give them the
possibility of continuing these courses by themselves in the future, based on the
19
lessons they learn now while being guided by the best trainers. From last years’
experience it is known that here is a great interest from young musicians.
A comprehensive, high performance training system will be implemented, reserved
for students and graduates with particularly good results. This system is seen as a
professional development platform and is considering specialized training but also
psychological preparation and familiarity with technical-logistical aspects.
We will improve the implementation based on the last year’s analyze. We will focus
on a flexible career guidance mechanism, with real and immediate perspectives.
This will connect students with the youth programs of the world's major opera
institutions. In the meantime, they will be trained in the most professional and
thorough ways to successfully take part in auditions and castings. This training has
already yielded results in 2019. But there is still room for a more effective
knowledge and implementation of the international acquis.
The existence in the last years of some opera productions made by avant-garde,
sophisticated and pretentious directors, revealed the lack of training of some artists
capable of summing up the acting, vocal and dancer qualities. UNMB has not yet
found a way to prepare Opera/ Operetta students for such performances that go
beyond any subject in the music curriculum.
We organize training sessions with top coaches from the most prestigious
international theaters. This aims to correct the structural deficiencies and to give
our participants better chances to access the labor market in the most appreciated
companies. This strategy is even better organized in 2020, after the success and
prospect analysis resulted from the 2019 edition. Also, we will continue to
document and exchange experiences. This way we will create a real connection
with the market requirements and with the cultural evolution. The musicians will
be up to date with their public’s preferences. This will lead them a few more steps
closer to a synchronicity with Europe, may it be England, Germany, Spain, Italy,
Russia etc. Basically, the musicians will be ready to compete everywhere in the EU
but also outside it, and especially in the USA.
This also comes as a necessity to correlate the situation of graduates with the
decreasing availability of employment in the public system. The chances to obtain
long-term or indefinite contracts decreases every year. The large number of
graduates who do not find such commitments makes contractual employment, the
main solution of the future. The organizing of this training days, with top coaches
from international centers of the highest prestige, will correct the structural
weaknesses of the national education system and will provide the young artists the
opportunity to access the labor market in the most honorable collectives, following
this multi-disciplinary practical preparation, inside a highly competitive
20
environment, where everyone's chance is to show that it is better prepared than
other candidates.
We will not skip the adjacent line in training sessions related to the performances
on stage, with reference and to sound, lights, costumes, and makeup. We will
continue our research from last year and we will complete them. We will also
encourage the training for music critics and editors who are specialized in
performances. These will also be part of the project through educational and
functional sessions, developing the beginnings of the first year of the project.
Another neglected aspect is that of a whole-body and vocal warm-up for rehearsal,
as well as specific ways of working in the rehearsal vs. the show. Also, the after-
show recovery or rest between 2 consecutive performances has its rules, which
currently no teacher explains. The multi-disciplinary perspective, with connections
on the medical, sportive, and psychological area, observed in the exchanges of
experience, must be broadened, and applied.
The activities we plan are aimed to also teach the specific elements of a musical
performance regarding deontology and academic ethics and the professional
relationship between the participants during the contract. More than that, we will
study the delicate situations that regard harassment or psychological pressures and
repression – of a sexual nature or emanating from inappropriate jokes.
The exchanges of experience will be organized to have working sessions with
specialists in copyrights and associated rights legislation. They will explain and
exemplify the situations and ways of working with scores that are protected by law
and with protected performances.
In the same time, it is important to keep fighting any active or passive behavior that
generates unjustifiable favors or generates the mistreatment of a person, a group
of persons or a community towards other people, groups of individuals or
communities.
Knowing our individual rights and how the law protects them will be a new and
especially useful factor. The scholars will learn the advantages of legislation and
good practices in the field of elaboration, negotiation and signing of employment
contracts.
A competition will be held, with an international jury but also with a support team
for competitors, to demonstrate the results of the training system, the best to be
invited to sing in a public concert.
Also, an important role in disseminating the results will have social media, video &
audio recordings. The experience from the year will be of a great importance. We
have archived all our activities in several formats, for them to be analyzed and
evaluated and to be put to good use in the new exchanges of experience.
21
The expected results are similar to those of the previous project, the target being a
qualitative improvement.
Result 1: participation of teachers, students, and graduates, not only from the
music profile but also from interdisciplinary areas. Quality indicator: the presence
of specialized teachers, accompanist assistants, undergraduate, master's and
doctoral students, young music critics.
Result 2: obtaining Diplomas of graduation by students. As a quality indicator we
propose an ambitious success rate: 80%.
Result 3: Avoiding accidents and occupational diseases throughout the project. As
a quality indicator we aim for a 90% success rate.
Deontological aspects can be considered in several directions: equal opportunities
and non-discrimination (depending on nationality, sexual orientation, body weight,
etc.), fairness in assessment, scoring and awards, direct implementation – through
simulations and exercises – of copyright and related rights legislation.
Participants will be trained in the most professional and thorough way to
successfully join competitions, auditions, and castings.
The organization of this training, with top trainers from international centers of the
highest prestige, will correct the structural shortcomings of the national education
system and give young people the chance to access the labor market in the most
honorable collectives, following this practical multidisciplinary training, under
conditions of maximum competition, where everyone's chance is to show that they
are better prepared than other candidates.
Accompanying maestros, singers, musicologists, students from the bachelor,
master, and doctoral cycles, including teachers, students, and graduates from other
faculties, are welcome.
Following participation in the program graduate diplomas can be obtained, by
students who have constantly taken an active part.
