Fondatori
Titu Maiorescu
Titu Maiorescu a fost un academician, avocat, critic literar, eseist, estet,
filosof, pedagog, politician și scriitor român acesta a mai deținut si alte pozitii
politice importante. A redactat faimoasa teorie a formelor fără fond , baza
junimismului politic și „piatra de fundament” pe care s-au construit operele lui
Mihai Eminescu, Ion Creangă, Ion Luca Caragiale și Ioan Slavici.
Maiorescu s-a format în mediul spiritual germanic, făcând studii strălucite
la Viena, Berlin şi Paris. În 1859, la Giessen, în Germania, şi-a susţinut
doctoratul în filozofie, cu o temă referitoare la noţiunea de “Relaţie”, lucrare pe
care a şi publicat-o în limba germană. În 1860 îşi publică o altă lucrare de
tinereţe, intitulată “Consideraţii filozofice”. În aceste lucrări, Maiorescu se arată
preocupat de logică, de antropologie şi teoria cunoaşterii
Împreuna cu alți cărturari ( Petre P Carp, Theodore Rosetti, Vasile Pogor,
Iacob Negruzzi) Maiorescu inițiază în 1860 un ciclu de „prelecțiuni populare”, a
căror tradiție va dăinui timp de 17 ani. Cei cinci infiltează societatea Junimea
(1863), al cărei mentor va fi Titu Maiorescu 15 februarie 1840 – 18 iunie 1917

Petre P. Carp
Petre Carp s-a născut la 28 iunie 1837 la Iaşi.Este trimis înca de
copil la Berlin (1850) unde învață la "Franzosische Gymnasium". În anul
1858 își ia bacalaureatul și se înscrie la Facultatea de Drept și Științe
Politice din cadrul Universității din Bonn. În anul 1962 revine la Iași și
contribuie la punerea bazei societății "Junimea”. Adept al ideilor
"junimiste" s-a remarcat ca unul dintre fruntașii Partidului Conservator din
acea perioadă. A fost ales în numeroase rânduri deputat și senator in
Parlamentul României. În anul 1891 gruparea "junimistă" se desprinde
din cadrul Partidului Conservator și formează Partidul Constituțional, iar
Petre Carp este ales președinte. Acesta se stinge din viaţă la data de 19
iunie 1919 fiind înmormântat în comuna Tibăneşti din judeţul Iaşi. 29 iunie 1837 – 19 iunie 1919

Theodor Rosetti
Theodor Rosetti era descendentul unei vechi familii boiereşti. Părinţii săi
erau postelnicul Gheorghe Rosetti şi Caterina Sturdza. Sora sa mai mare, Elena
Rosetti, va fi viitoarea soţie a domnitorului Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Tânărul
Rosetti începe liceul la Lemberg, dar îl termină la Viena în anul 1855. Studiile
universitare le urmează la Facultatea de Drept din Viena (1855 - 1859), iar
licenţa în ştiinţe juridice o obţine la Paris. Deşi era cumnatul domnitorului,
Theodor Rosetti nu se implică în viaţa politică, preferând să ocupe diferite funcţii
în magistratură, administraţie şi practicând avocatura. Totodată, Theodor Rosetti
se numără printre fondatorii Societăţii literare Junimea în 1863, participând şi la
întocmirea principalelor linii de direcţie pentru „Convorbiri literare” şi „Timpul”.
Ajuns la bătrâneţe, Rosetti se retrage din viaţa politică, dar se va număra printre
puţinii români care au trăit cele două Uniri, pe cea din 1859, respectiv pe cea din
1918. Theodor Rosetti se stinge din viaţă pe 17 iulie 1923, la vârsta de 85 de ani. 4 mai 1837 – 17 iulie 1923

Vasile Pogor
Scriitor și om politic. După absolvirea cursurilor pensionului Malgouverne
din Iași, pleacă la Paris (1849) unde studiază dreptul. La întorcerea în țară se
angajeaza în cadrul Tribunalului din Iași, unde lucrează până în anul 1859, când
se transferă la Curtea de Apel. A fost unul dintre fondatorii societății "Junimea".
A scris versuri, proză și a realizat importante traduceri ("Faust", de Goethe –
traducere realizată împreună cu Nicolae Skeletti) pentru revista "Convorbiri
literare". În februarie 1866 este numit prefect al județului Iași. S-a lansat în
politică alături de "junimiști". În perioada 20 aprilie - 23 mai 1870 ocupă funcția
de ministru al Cultelor și Instrucțiunii. A fost unul dintre membri marcanți al
Partidului Constituțional ("junimist") – formațiune politică înființată în anul
1891. Alte funcții politice deținute: deputat și primar al orașului Iași (februarie -
aprilie 1881; iulie 1888 - aprilie 1891; mai 1892 - noiembrie 1894). Deși a fost
moștenitorul unei imense averi a murit urmărit de creditori. 4 mai 1837 – 17 iulie 1923

Iacob Negruzzi
Iacob Negruzzi, fiul lui Costache Negruzzi și-a făcut studiile în Germania. A fost
profesor la Facultatea de drept din Iaşi şi preşedinte al Academiei Române.
Membru fondator al societăţii Junimea a condus timp de peste 28 de ani revista
Convorbiri literare. El a atras pentru revistă spiritele cele mai alese, al căror
talent era descoperit cu o intuiție sigură. La 28 octombrie 1866, Iacob Negruzzi a
intrat în masonerie, în 1867 a ajuns al doilea secretar şi mare expert iar în 1868
ajunsese venerabil. În 1888, Iacob Negruzzi a depus pe biroul Camerei
Deputaţilor o petiţie din partea unui număr de cetăţeni din toate părţile ţării,
pentru un proiect de lege prin care să se i se acorde poetului Mihai Eminescu, de
către stat, o pensie viageră.
Iacob Negruzzi a rămas în posteritate nu numai cu cele șapte volume de
Operecomplete, ci și cu colecţia celor 28 de volume ale revistei "Convorbiri
literare" pe care a condus-o cu exemplară energie. S-a stins din viaţă la 6 ianuarie
4 mai 1837 – 17 iulie 1923
1932, la Iaşi.
