In Romanian, we can address people formally or informally. The pronoun “you” has different forms
and when we use the formal “you” we have to use the verbs in their plural form.

Dumneavoastră and the verbs in their plural form is what Romanians use in formal
conversation. There are also other forms of addressing someone formally in addition to
dumneavoastră.
The degree of formality can be difficult to appreciate. Generally, if the person you are
addressing is somewhat older, it is safer to be formal until the person will tell you to switch to
