Ce sunt O.M.G?

Organismele modificate genetic (OMG-uri), cunoscute și sub
denumirea de organisme modificate genetic sau organisme transgenice,
sunt organisme ale căror caracteristici genetice au fost schimbate în
mod deliberat prin utilizarea tehnologiilor de inginerie genetică.

Aceste modificări genetice pot implica introducerea de gene noi sau

modificarea genelor existente pentru a conferi organismelor
caracteristici sau proprietăți specifice.

OMG-urile pot fi găsite în
diferite domenii precum:
 Agricultură
01 OMG-urile sunt create pentru a
rezista la dăunători sau la condiții
climatice nefavorabile.
(ex: porumbul modificat genetic)
Industria alimentară
03 Alimente care conțin OMG-uri,
cum ar fi roșiile modificate
genetic pentru a rezista la boli sau
Medicină a înflori mai mult timp.

producerea medicamentelor. (ex:
insulină umană produsă de bacterii
modificate genetic)
Organismele modificate genetic (O.M.G.) actualmente
nasc cele mai mari confuzii în rândul consumatorilor. O
parte dintre aceştia sunt siguri că O.M.G. sunt toxice şi
deosebit de periculoase, în timp ce alţii sunt de părere că
ele rezolvă probleme legate de producția alimentelor.
Tehnologia genei prezintă o tehnologie ce furnizează noi

proprietăţi organismului, transferând gene de la un organism la
altul sau care interferează cu structura sa genetică.

Prin modificarea genetică poate fi obţinută producerea fructelor

sezoniere pe tot parcursul anului, modificarea calităţilor
nutritive, ameliorarea culorii şi aromei fructelor etc.

Există şi o mulţime de cercetări, care au constatat că utilizarea O.M.G. duce la
infertilitate, dezvoltarea şi răspândirea celulelor de cancer, diferite forme de
alergii.

Este deocamdată necunoscut faptul, ce impact vor avea aceste produse asupra
generaţiilor următoare. Afară de aceasta nu se cunoaşte, cum genele, introduse
artificial, se vor dezvolta în continuare.

Folosirea tehnicilor ingineriei genetice în obținerea unor

organisme cu caractere noi, dar mai ales utilizarea culturilor 4

de plante MG și alimentelor ce conțin produși ai acestora, au
stârnit temeri, numeroase discuții și controverse în rândul 2
activiștilor de mediu, al unor organizații religioase, asociații

profesionale și al opiniei publice.

Eventualele riscuri ale OMG asupra mediului
nu sunt neglijabile, potrivit unor autori, fiind
imperativ să ținem cont de aspecte ca:
- experiența încă insuficientă asupra
caracterelor manipulate genetic și combinării
lor la gazdă

- luarea în calcul a faptului că OMG introduse
în mediu pot prolifera și persista fără intervenția omului;

- posibilitatea unor schimburi de material genetic între

organismele transgenice și cele de tip sălbatic;

- într-un anumit mediu, caracterul transferat poate să

confere avantaje OMG față de specia nativă etc.
Sunt scenarii privind riscul transferului pe orizontală (de la OMG la alte organisme;
la bacterii, de exemplu) a unor gene pentru rezistență la erbicide, pesticide,
antibiotice etc, care ar pune în pericol nu doar sănătatea omului, ci ar duce și la
dezechilibre ecologice majore.

Se știe însă că, deși transferul natural de gene pe orizontală la micro-organisme nu

este exclus, este totuși considerat a avea o rată foarte scăzută
În Europa, de altfel, este interzisă în prezent folosirea de gene
marker pentru rezistență la antibiotice la culturile comerciale.
Ar exista însă riscuri și mai mari în privința transferului pe verticală
a unor astfel de gene, care ar putea duce, de exemplu, la apariția de
superburuieni și respectiv la supergândaci (Gertsberg, 2011).
Prin introducerea în cultură a unor plante MG rezistente la
erbicide s-ar putea ca transgenele ce le conferă această
calitate să fie transferate prin hibridare la unele buruieni,
ducând la apariția de superburuieni, care vor tolera și ele
erbicidele și vor deveni mai invazive și mai periculoase
decât buruienile obișnuite.

Deși nu există încă buruieni MG, aceste riscuri nu sunt excluse
pentru plantele care au în natură rude sălbatice (cum ar fi
porumbul, napul, bumbacul, orezul) și capacitatea de a se
poleniza încrucișat cu acestea.
Din acest motiv, trebuie imaginate strategii care să minimalizeze fluxul de gene de la o
cultură la alta și dezvoltarea de plante transgenice care să ofere biosiguranță în perspectivă
proprie, ceea ce s-ar putea realiza prin:
- evitarea sau minimizarea polenizării încrucișate;
- evitarea antibioticelor ca markeri;
- expresia genelor străine numai în țesuturi specifice și în anumite stadii de dezvoltare
