EPOCAST 36

1.0.

Due to long year experience in use and


application of our chocking system EPOCAST
36, epoxy resin chocks are preferred for Stern
Tube installations since this system saves
time and costs. Insitu machining of Stern
Frame Boss is not required at all.

Datorita experientei de-a lungul anilor in folosirea
si aplicarea sistemului nostrum chocking
EPOCAST 36 , epoxy resin chocks sunt preferate
pentru instalatiile Tubului Etambou din moment
ce acest system salveaza timp si costuri.
Prelucrarea Bucsei Pupa nu este ceruta deloc.

1.1. STERN FRAME BOSS

1.1.

The Stern Frame Boss is purchased according to


design. If necessary, the Stern Frame Boss is to
be machined and welded so that there is an
average gap of 20 - 25 mm after installation. Due to
the welding process and alignment error it may
happen that the gap is reduced on one side, and
increased on the opposite side. This will not effect
the EPOCAST 36 installation as long as the
minimum gap is at least 8 mm (Below 8 mm please
refer to manufacturer for further advise). (See
drawing No.1)

Ingrosarea Coastei Etmbou este aprovizionata


conform proiectarii. Daca e necesar Ingrosarea
Coastei Etambou va fi prelucrata si sudata astfel
incat sa fie un spatiu de aprox. 20-25 mm dupa
instalare. Datorita procesului de sudura si erorii
de aliniere se poate intampla ca spatiul sa fie
redus pe o parte, si crescut pe partea opusa.
Acest lucru nu va afecta instalarea EPOCAST
36 atat timp cat spatiul minim este cel putin 8
mm,( Sub 8 mm contactati producatorul pentru
sfaturi ulterioare) (Vezi desen Nr. 1)

The Jacking Screw holes are drilled from outside
through the Stern Frame Boss and threaded. The
number and arrangement (position) of the holes
respectively the jacking screws are determined by
the shipyard (technical Department). All these
Jacking Screws holes have to be pluged finally.

Gaurile Suruburilor de Reglare sunt facute din


afara prin Bucsa Pupa si filetate. Numarul si
aranjarea (pozitionarea) gaurilor respectiv
suruburile de reglare sunt determinate de catre
santier (Dept Tehnic). Toate aceste gauri ale
Suruburilor de Reglare trebuie sa fie astupate
la final.

In case it is not possible to drill the holes through


the stern frame boss due to material thickness, the
holes for the jacking screws can be positioned
directly in the stern tube bearing. (See drawing no.
2.2)

For positioning of the fill holes from above and

stern tube bearing consider the following:

the back area. Position the vent hole as
far as possible in the front area.

Position the fill hole as far as possible in
the front area. Position the vent hole as far
as possible in the back area.

pumping of horizontal part
For positioning of the fill holes from the bottom side
and positioning of the vent holes on the aft and
forward stern tube bearing consider the following:
a) Stern frame boss on the aft side Position the fill
hole as far as possible in the bottom back area.
Position the vent hole as far as possible in the
upper front and aft area. Two vent holes are
advantageously for refilling.
b) Stern frame boss on the forward side Position
the fill hole as far as possible in the bottom back
area. Position the vent hole as far as possible in
the upper front area. If the vent hole respectively
fill hole is in the aft pik it is necessary to lengthen
the lines. Hole Diameters:
a) Fill hole : approx. 35 mm
b) Air hole : approx. 20 mm

1.2.3.

Installation and alignment of the stern


tube bearings

Before installing the stern tube bearings into the


stern frame boss it is necessary to carry out the
following work:

a) Remove grease, oil, mill scale, rust and paint


etc. from the chocking area of the stern
frame boss and the stern tube bearing.
b) If required spray Release Agent FT 36 into the
gap and make sure that the complete steel
surface of the sternframe boss and bush is
wetted.
c) Insert stern tube bearing into the stern frame
boss (See drawing no. 6)

1.2.2.3 Partea inferioara a gaurilor de umplere si

Pentru pozitionarea gaurilor de umplere din
partea inferioara si pozitionarea gaurilor de
aerisire in pupa si prova lagar tub etambou luati in
considerare urmatoarele:
a) Bucsa Pupa: in pupa Pozitionati gaura de
umplere cat de departe posibil in zona
inferioara din spate. Pozitionati gaura de
aerisire cat de departe posibil in zona
superioara prova si pupa. Doua gauri de
aerisire sunt in mod avantajos pentru
reumplere.
b)Bucsa Pupa: in prova Pozitionati gaura de
umplere cat de departe posibil in partea
inferioara din spate. Pozitionati gaura de
aerisire cat de departe posibil in zona
superioara din fata. Daca gaura de aerisire
respectiv gaura de umplere este in pik-ul
pupa este necesar sa lungiti liniile. Diametru
gauri:
a) Gaura de umplere : aprox.35mm
b) Gaura de aerisire: aprox. 20 mm

1.2.3. Instalarea si alinierea lagarelor tub
etambou
Inainte de instalarea lagarelor tub etambou in
bucsa pupa este necesar sa realizati urmatoarele
lucrari:
a) Indepartati lubrifiantul, uleiul, tunderul de la
laminare, rugina si vopseaua etc. din zona
chocking a bucsei pupa si lagarul tub etambou.
b) Daca se cere pulverizati Release Agent FT 36
in locas si asigurati-va ca intreaga suprafata de
metal/otel a bucsei pupa si bucsa sa fie udate.
c) Inserati lagarul tub etambou in bucsa pupa
(Vezi desen nr.6)

d) Insert active sealing (sea water and oil


resistant) in the corner between sterntube
frame boss and sterntube flange

e) Afterwards align the stern tube bearings.
Please make sure that the active sealing is
fixed and cannot move during pouring or
pumping.

1.3.2.

Pre-heating and mixing of EPOCAST 36

In order to obtain the correct pre-heating


temperature of EPOCAST 36 at the
corresponding steel plate temperature and gap
size follow strictly our Mixing and Pouring Guide
1.3.2 (see attached) and the below-mentioned
instructions:
a) Mark the correct gap size on the left side of the
chart and draw a horizontal line
b) Mark the correct steel plate temperature on the
top of the chart and draw a vertical line
c) Both lines cross each other
d) Continue drawing your vertical line up to the
bottom column "A"
e) You now obtain an imaginary point of
intersection. This point of intersection indicates
the perfect pre-heating temperature for
EPOCAST 36.
f) Now pre-heat the epoxy resin EPOCAST 36 up
to the determined temperature
g) Before starting the mixing process please use
protective clothing (eye shield and gloves).
h) Add all hardener to the pre-heated chocking
compound and power mix at approx. 300 -500
rpm for 2 - 3 min.
Attention: Do not immerse or pull out mixing
blade from resin can when in operation (this
can cause air entrapment)

1.3.3. Pouring of EPOCAST 36 through

1.2.2.1 and 1.2.2.2 until the epoxy resin appears
on the vent holes and the level of the epoxy
resin remains constant.

1.3.2. Pre-incalzirea si amestecarea EPOCAST 36
Pentru a obtine temperature de preincalzire
corecta a EPOCAST 36 la temperatura
corespunzatoare tablei de metal/otel si marimea
locasului respectati cu strictete Ghidul nostru
pentru Amestec si Turnare 1.3.2 (vezi atasat) si
instructiunile mai jos mentionate.
a) Marcati marimea corecta a locasului in partea
stanga a graficului si desenati o linie orizontala
b) Marcati temperatura corecta a tablei de otel
in partea superioara a graficului si desenati o
linie verticala
c) Ambele linii se intersecteaza
d) Continuati sa desenati linia dvs verticala pana
la coloana de jos A
e) Obtineti acum un punct imaginar de
intersectare. Acest punct de intersectare indica
temperatura perfecta de pre-incalzire pentru
EPOCAST 36.
f) Acum preincalziti rasina epoxy EPOCAST 36
pana la temperatura determinata.
g) Inainte de a incepe procesul de amestecfolositi imbracaminte de protectie (Viziera de
Protectie si manusi).
h) Adaugati tot intaritorul la continutul chocking
preincalzit si amestecati la aprox. 300 - 500
rpm timp de 2-3 min.
Atentie: Nu cufundati sau scoateti pala de
amestec din cutia de rasina pe timpul exploatarii!
(acest lucru poate cauza bule de aer).
1.3.3. Turnarea EPOCAST 36 prin
gauri de deasupra
Rasina epoxy EPOCAST 36 va fi turnata prin
gaurile de umplere mentionate la punctele 1.2.2.1
si 1.2.2.2 pana cand rasina epoxy apare pe
gaurile de aerisire iar nivelul rasinii epoxy ramane
constant.
