a d ă u g â n d l a u r m ă o serie d e o b s e r v a ţ i i ce n i se p a r n e c e s a r e p e n t r u c â t m a i d e ­
plina lămurire a adevărului.

D o m n u l R a d u D r a g n e a a f i r m ă , a v â n d şi a s e n t i m e n t u l d - l u i D r a g o ş Piroto-
p o p e s e u , că „ a fi naţionallist e s t e o g r e a c ă d e r e î n p ă c a t , d i n c a r e n ă d ă j d u i m a n e
m â n t u i î n o r t o d o x i e " . D o m n i a - s a r e c u n o a ş t e că „ a a p a r ţ i n e u n e i n a ţ i u n i e u n f a p t
firesc, d e l à c a r e n u t e p o ţ i s u s t r a g e oa n i c i d e l à n a ş t e r e s a u d e a a v e a p ă r i n ţ i " , d a r
n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l „ n u s'a n ă s c u t o d a t ă c u n a ţ i u n e a , ci e s t e u n a d a u s , c a p ă c a t u l la
f ă p t u r ă , c a r e astfel a s f ă r â m a t e c u m e n i c i t a t e a c r e ş t i n ă " .
C u a l t e c u v i n t e e x i s t e n ţ a n a ţ i u n i i , ca u n g r u p o m e n e s c d e o s e b i t d e altele,
este u n f a p t n a t u r a l şi î n a c e a s t a n u e n i m i c p ă c ă t o s , a ş a c u m e x i s t e n ţ a i n d i v i z i l o r ,
oa fiinţe a p a r t e şi c a r a c t e r i s t i c e , n u p o a t e fi s o c o t i t ă c a u n p ă c a t . P ă c a t u l se a d a u g ă
d i n m o m e n t u l î n c a r e u n g r u p zis n a ţ i u n e î n c e p e să c u g e t e l a f a p t u l că e d e o s e b i t
d e celelalte g r u p u r i şi s ă se l a s e d e t e r m i n a t î n a c ţ i u n i l e s a l e d e a c e a s t ă c o n ş t i i n ţ ă a
d i s t i n c ţ i e i s a l e , ţ i n â n d l a e a şi l u p t â n d p e n t r u m e n ţ i n e r e a ei c a a t a r e . A m a v e a a i c i
u n fel d e egoism a l g r u p u l u i . M e m b r i i l u i a u c ă z u t î n p ă c a t f i i n d c ă n u m a i c u p r i n d
î n p r e o c u p ă r i l e lor o m e n i r e a î n t r e a g ă , s a u f i i n d c ă a c e s t e p r e o c u p ă r i n u m a i s u n t
l i b e r e d e o b s e s i a că a p a r ţ i n u n u i g r u p d e o s e b i t î n m i j l o c u l o m e n i r i i . O r t o d o x i a n e
f a c e să g â n d i m şi să l u c r ă m p e n t r u î n t r e a g a o m e n i r e , e c u m e n i c , n e p r e o c u p a ţ i d e
c o n ş t i i n ţ a că f a c e m p a r t e d i n t r ' u n n e a m . O r i c e o p e r ă , î n oare a u t o r u l n u se g â n d e ş t e
să a r a t e p r i n e a s p e c i f i c u l n a ţ i o n a l şi să p r o m o v e z e n a ţ i u n e a sa, e e c u m e n i c ă , c h i a r
d a c ă n u î n sens o r t o d o x şi d e c i m â n t u i t o r , c ă c i e x i s t ă şi a l t e p l a n u r i d e e c u m e n i c i -
t a t e . S u n t e c u m e n i c e p o e z i i l e l u i A r g b e z i şi C e n z u r a t r a n s c e n d e n t ă a l u i L u c i a n
B l a g a , p e n t r u c ă n u se a f l ă î n ele nici o p r e o c u p a r e d e n a ţ i u n e a p r o p r i e d i n p a r t e a
autorilor.
N a ţ i u n e a p u r şi s i m p l u e x i s t e n t ă , f ă r ă a d a u s u l n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l u i , a r fi ca i n d i ­
v i d u l e x i s t e n t c a f a p t n a t u r a l , f ă r ă c a a c e a s t a să f o r m e z e p e n t r u el u n o b i e c t d e r e -

f l e x i u n e c u u r m ă r i s e r i o a s e î n c o m p o r t a r e a sa. C â t ă v r e m e d i v i z i u n e a e x i s t ă n u m a i
c a u n f a p t n a t u r a l , n u e p ă c a t ; d a r d i n m o m e n t ce f a c e m c a z d e e a p ă c ă t u i m , m ă ­
r i n d - o . D e v i n a a c e s t u i p ă c a t c a r e e, m i - s e p a r e d u p ă î n s u ş i d-1 R a d u D r a g n e a , c e v a
i n e v i t a b i l a s t ă z i , n e m â n t u e o r t o d o x i a . M ă c a r p r i n e a să î m b r ă ţ i ş ă m e c u m e n i c , c u
d e p ă ş i r e a h o t a r e l o r c o n f e s i o n a l e şi p o l i t i c e , p e toţi o a m e n i i , i n d i f e r e n t d e n a ţ i o n a l i ­
t a t e şi d e religie, î n a c e i a ş i d r a g o s t e şi i n t e r e s . O r t o d o x i a n ' a r p u t e a fi a ş a d a r î n
niciun caz favorabilă naţionalismului.

D o m n u l N a e Ionescu, r ă s p u n z â n d d-lui D r a g n e a , a susţinut o p ă r e r e m u l t

d e o s e b i t ă . D o m n i a 8 a r e p r o ş e a z ă d-lui R a d u D r a g n e a c o n v i n g e r e a că n e p u t e m
m â n t u i î n c ă „ a i c i , p e p ă m â n t , î n i s t o r i e " . A c e s t l u c r u este i m p o s i b i l , p r e c u m e s t e
i m p o s i b i l să d e p ă ş i m î n c ă a i c i î n v e a c h o t a r e l e c o n f e s i o n a l e şi p o l i t i c e . A c e s t e h o ­
t a r e n u p o t fi d e p ă ş i t e p e n t r u c ă n u se p o a t e „ a n u l a r e a l i t a t e a f o r m e l o r d e v i a ţ ă a ş a
c u m l e - a l ă s a t D u m n e z e u " şi p e n t r u c ă „ i s t o r i a t o t d e D u m n e z e u e f ă c u t ă " . E d r e p t
că n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l n u e t o c m a i u n a d i n a c e s t e f o r m e d e v i a ţ ă l ă s a t e d e D u m n e z e u .
A t r i b u t u l l a c e s t a se p o a t e d a n u m a i n a ţ i u n i i , d a r n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l e s t e c o n s e c i n ţ a fi­
r e a s c ă a n a ţ i u n i i . „ D a c ă , d e c i , a p e r t e n e n ţ a l a o n a ţ i u n e e u n f a p t firesc, n a ţ i o n a l i s ­
m u l t r e b u e să fie şi el o a t i t u d i n e f i r e a s c ă şi n i c i d e c u m o c ă d e r e î n p ă c a t " .

m a i o s e c ţ i u n e a a c t i v i t ă ţ i i n o a s t r e f a ţ ă d e c a r e să fie p o s i b i l ă o p o z i ţ i a v r e u n e i a l t e
s e c ţ i u n i , b u n ă o a r ă a celei o r t o d o x e , c i „ a c o p e r e tot a ş a d e b i n e s e c t o r u l s p i r i t u a l s a u
economic, sau politic, sau cultural-estetic". Ne revendică total î n t r u c â t n a ţ i u n e a ne
d e f i n e ş t e p e f i e c a r e d i n n o i , l o c u l , c a d r u l şi p r i n c i p i u l î n t r e g e i n o a s t r e a c ţ i u n i şi
existenţe în veac".
O r t o d o x i a , î n s p e c i a l , n u p o a t e fi n i c i e a l i b e r ă d e p e c e t i a n a ţ i o n a l ă , c a o sec­
ţ i u n e d e v i a ţ ă n e d e t e r m i n a t ă d e n a ţ i u n e şi d e c i i n d i f e r e n t ă s a u d e f a v o r a b i l ă n a ţ i o ­
nalismului, î n t r u c â t în istorie n u a v e m c u v â n t u l lui D u m n e z e u în forma absolută,
ci t r ă i t d e o a m e n i . N i m e n i n u p o a t e eşi d i n d e t e r m i n a n t e l e i s t o r i c e , p e n t r u a t r ă i c u ­
v â n t u l l u i D u m n e z e u c u m e î n s i n e , ci l a f i e c a r e se i n f l u e n ţ e a z ă a c e a s t ă t r ă i r e şi s e
colorează p r i n însuşirile p r o d u s e de naţiune. „ C u alte cuvinte, n u există în c h i p nor­
m a l î n i s t o r i e f e l u r i i n d i v i d u a l e , ci n u m a i f e l u r i n a ţ i o n a l e d e a t r ă i c u v â n t u l l u i
D u m n e z e u " . U r m a r e a e s t e că B i s e r i c a se a c o p e r e c u n e a m u l , c u p r i n d e pe t o ţ i m e m ­
b r i i u n u i p o p o r şi se î n t i n d e p â n ă a c o ' o p â n ă u n d e se î n t i n d e u n p o p o r . „ D e a c e e a
c o m u n i t a t e a d e i u b i r e a B i s e r i c i i se a c o p e r e s t r u c t u r a l şi s p a ţ i a l c u c o m u n i t a t e a d e
destin a naţiei".

I n d i s c u ţ i e a i n t e r v e n i t şi d-1 D r a g o ş P r o t o p o p e s c u a p ă r â n d î m p o t r i v a d - î u i
N a e I o n e s c u t e z a d - l u i R a d u D r a g n e a , d a r î n t r ' o a s t f e l d e f o r m ă şi c u a s t f e l d e a r ­
g u m e n t e , î n c â t a f ă c u t - o e x t r e m d e v u l n e r a b i l ă şi n e m i r ă m c u m d-1 R a d u D r a g n e a ,
r e v e n i n d î n d i s c u ţ i e c u c â t e v a l ă m u r i r i , se d e c l a r ă î n t r u t o t u l d e a c o r d c u c e e a c e a
s u s ţ i n u t d-1 D r a g o ş P r o t o p o p e s c u . A c e s t a , e x p r i m â n d u n g â n d n e m ă r t u r i s i t a t â t d e
b r u t a l d e d 4 R a d u D r a g n e a , s u s ţ i n e că n a ţ i o n a l u l (deci n u n u m a i n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l ) e
p u r ă b i o l o g i e . S p i r i t u a l u l (şi d e c i şi o r t o d o x u l ) este a t u n c i c u t o t u l a l t c e v a d e c â t n a ­
ţ i o n a l u l . U l t i m u l , c a b i o l o g i e , e s t e î n c h i s î n „ h o t a r e c o n f e s i o n a l e şi p o l i t i c e " , „ d a r
s p i r i t u a l u l e p r i n d e f i n i ţ i e e c u m e n i c , d e p ă ş i t o r d e h o t a r e şi n a ţ i u n i , d i n c o l o d e n a ­
ţ i u n e " . „ N a ţ i o n a l i s m u l e p r o f u n d biologic... N u e n i c i o a c o p e r i r e s t r u c t u r a l ă şi s p a -

ţ i a l ă î n t r e n a ţ i o n a l i s m şi s p i r i t u a l i t a t e . C u a t â t m a i p u ţ i n î n t r e n a ţ i o n a l i s m şi or­
t o d o x i e " . N a ţ i o n a l i s m u l fiind „o a p r i g ă i n i ţ i a t i v ă a o m u l u i î n t r u a p ă r a r e a g r u p u l u i
s ă u e t n i c " , t r e b u e să m e a r g ă „ p â n ă l a u r ă şi v ă r s a r e d e s â n g e " . „ E l e l u p t ă p e v i a ţ ă
şi p e m o a r t e î n t r e s p e ţ e " .
D - l u i N a e I o n e s c u , c a r e s u s ţ i n e c ă n a ţ i a , d e ş i p ă c a t , e d e l à D u m n e z e u , ca şi
c o n s e c i n ţ a ei f i r e a s c ă n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l , şi p r i n u r m a T e n u t r e b u e să t i n d e m a le d e p ă ş i ,
d-1 D r a g o ş P r o t o p o p e s c u îi r ă s p u n d e că a d m i ţ â n d c o n c l u z i a a c e a s t a , „ d e v i n i n d i f e ­
r e n t e d i n p u n c t d e v e d e r e m o r a l şi a u c i d e şi a p r o v o c a a v o r t şi a t r i ş a , f i i n d c ă şi
a c e s t e a s u n t d e l à D u m n e z e u " şi p ă c a t e c a şi a c e l e a . C h i a r d a c ă s u n t d e l à D u m n e z e u ,
r ă s p u n d e d-1 D r a g o ş P r o t o p o p e s c u , t r e b u e să le e v i t ă m , p e n t r u că D u m n e z e u „ p u ­
n â n d u - l e î n c a l e a o m u l u i le p u n e n u m a i p u ţ i n c a p ă c a t e , a d i c ă i n t e r z i c â n d u - n i - l e " ,
ca u n fel d e „ g e s t u r i a s c u n s e a l e l u i , p e n t r u a î n c e r c a s a u i s p i t i p e o m " . E l i m p e d e
p r i n u r m a r e că n a ţ i u n e a şi n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l şi b i o l o g i a s u n t , d u p ă p ă r e r e a d - l u i D r a g o ş
P r o t o p o p e s c u , l u c r u r i tot a ş a d e p ă c ă t o a s e ca şi a u c i d e , a p r o v o c a a v o r t , a t r i ş a şi
a f u r a . C a şi d e p ă c a t e l e e n u m e r a t e l a s f â r ş i t , t o t a ş a şi d e cele d i n t â i n e a b s o l v ă
n u m a i s p i r i t u a l u l ( p e n t r u d-1 D r a g o ş P r o t o p o p e s c u e i n d i f e r e n t că a c e s t s p i r i t u a l e
ortodox sau nietzscheian sau francmason).
D - s a i n s i s t ă a s u p r a ideii că n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l c a biologie t r e b u e socotit p r i n t r e
cele m a i g r e l e p ă c a t e . „ N a ţ i o n a l i s m u l n u e n u m a i t r a g e r e a c o n s e c i n ţ e l o r î n g ă d u i t e ,
d a r şi n e î n g ă d u i t e d i n f a p t u l firesc a l a p a r t e n e n ţ i i l a o n a ţ i u n e . M a i m u l t : p r e t i n d
că n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l î n c e p e c u a c e a s t ă m i c ă n e î n g ă d u i n ţ ă . . . D u p ă c u m m e m b r i i u n e i
c
familii p o t c ă d e a î n p ă c a t (în m o d firesc d a r n u m a i p u ţ i n n e î n g ă d u i t !) d u m ă n i n -
d u - s e şi o m o r î n d u - s e î n t r e ei, a ş a şi n a ţ i u n i l e p o t (ba p r e t i n d că a u c h i a r o b l i g a ţ i a ,
şi d e aici î n c e p e n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l ! ) d e a e x t e r m i n a p e celelalte d i n r a z a d r e p t u l u i lor
la v i a ţ ă , c u t o a t e că l u c r u l e d e n e î n g ă d u i t î n t r e m e m b r i i a c e l e a ş i familii m a r i a l u i
D u m n e z e u " . O b s e r v a ţ i e i d-lui N a e I o n e s c u că n u n e p u t e m s u s t r a g e n a ţ i e i , îi r ă s ­
p u n d e i a r ă ş i d-1 P r o t o p o p e s c u : „ B i n e , d a r tot a ş a n u t e - a i p u t e a s u s t r a g e nici b e ­
ţiei !" Şi î n c h e i e g â n d u l a c e s t a d e c l a r â n d n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l „o b e ţ i e d e l a D u m n e z e u
lăsată".

C e a m a i m a r e greşală în p u n c t u l de vedere al d-lui D r a g o ş Protopopescu re­

z i d ă î n i d e n t i f i c a r e a b i o l o g i c u l u i n a t u r a l şi n e c e s a r c u b i o l o g i c u l — d a c ă - i m a i p u ­
t e m s p u n e şi a c e s t u i a biologic ! — c a a b u z .
Să l ă s ă m d e o c a m d a t ă î n p a r a n t e z ă c h e s t i u n e a d a c ă n a ţ i u n e a şi n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l
s u n t s a u n u u r m ă r i allé p ă c a t u l u i o r i g i n a r , c a o c h e s t i u n e d e m e t a f i z i c ă a c r e d i n ţ i i .
Să s c r u t ă m n u m a i r e a l i t a t e a e m p i r i c ă . A p a r t e n e n ţ a l a n a ţ i u n e p r i n n a ş t e r e n i se
prezintă ca u n p ă c a t asemănător beţiei sau pruncuciderii ? A s p u n e aşa ceva însem­
n e a z ă a p ă r ă s i t e r e n u l e x p e r i e n ţ i i c o n c r e t e şi a t e a v â n t a î n a f i r m a ţ i i c o m p l e t o p u s e
r e a l i t ă ţ i i , şi deci a r b i t r a r e şi g r a t u i t e . î n s e m n e a z ă a n u m a i ţ i n e s e a m a d e nici u n
c r i t e r i u î n c a t e g o r i s i r e a f a p t e l o r d i n p u n c t d e v e d e r e etic, c ă z â n d î n cel m a i c o m ­
p l e t h a o s şi i n d i f e r e n t i s m m o r a l .
P r i n ce f a p t ă d i n d e c u r s u l v i e ţ i i m e l e , o p r i m ă c o n d i ţ i e c a e a să fie e v i t a b i l a ,
m ' a m f ă c u t eu v i n o v a t n ă s c â n d u - m ă oa m e m b r u a l u n e i n a ţ i u n i ? N a ş t e r e a î n s â ­
nul unei naţiuni n u e în niciun caz o continuare personală de-a păcătui, o cădere
actuală în păcat, p r e c u m este p r u n c u c i d e r e a sau avortul, sau eventual naţionalismul.
D a r n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l este el u n p ă c a t a s e m e n e a b e ţ i e i s a u p r u n c u c i d e r i i ? C e e
n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l ? S ă - i d ă m d e o c a m d a t ă o d e f i n i ţ i e f o a r t e g e n e r a l ă , d a r şi d e p l i n c u ­
p r i n z ă t o a r e . E l este c o n ş t i i n ţ a că a p a r ţ i i c u t ă r u i g r u p e t n i c , i u b i r e a a c e l u i g r u p şi
a c t i v a r e a a c e s t e i i u b i r i î n s l u j b a b i n e l u i l u i . R ă d ă c i n a a c e s t e i i u b i r i şi a a c e s t e i s l u -

j i r i e f o a r t e p l a u z i b i l să fie d e o r d i n i n s t i n c t u a l . E v o i n ţ a t a d e - a t r ă i n u n u m a i c a
i n d i v i d incolor, d e s b r ă c a t d e t o a t e a t r i b u t e l e ce le a i p r i n n a ş t e r e şi e d u c a ţ i e , ci a ş a
c u m eşti, şi î n t r u c â t s i m ţ i că a ş a c u m eşti n u p o ţ i t r ă i d e c â t m e n ţ i n â n d u - s e g r u p u l
c ă r u i a îi a p a r ţ i i ; l u p t â n d p e n t r u t i n e , l u p ţ i p e n t r u m e n ţ i n e r e a î n e x i s t e n ţ ă a î n t r e ­
gului grup.
D a r fie că p r i v i m l a a c e a s t ă r ă d ă c i n ă i n s t i n c t u a l ă a n a ţ i o n a l i s m u l u i , fie că
p r i v i m l a f l o a r e a l u i m o r a l ă — s l u j i r e a n e a m u l u i c u i u b i r e — el e f o a r t e d e p a r t e d e
beţie sau de pruncucidere.
Să-1 p r i v i m ca i n s t i n c t şi d e c i să-1 c o n s i d e r ă m biologic. C a a t a r e , v o i n ţ ă d e a
t r ă i şi a c t i v a r e a a c e s t e i v o i n ţ e . V o i n ţ a d e a t r ă i şi l u a r e a m ă s u r i l o r p e n t r u a t r ă i e
n e c e s a r ă , a d i c ă n i m e n i n u se p o a t e s u s t r a g e . H r a n a d e p i l d ă , c a a c t i v a r e a v o i n ţ i i d e
a t r ă i , e c e v a i n e v i t a b i l . C ă s ă t o r i a , c a a c t i v a r e a v o i n ţ e i d e a t r ă i a s p e c i e i , l a fel. A
le e v i t a n u î n s e m n e a z ă n u m a i a m u r i t u p e r s o n a l , ci a t e r i d i c a î m p o t r i v a u n o r r â n -
d u e l i f u n d a m e n t a l e , p u s e d e D u m n e z e u c a legi d u p ă c a r e s e d e s f ă ş o a r ă v i a ţ a ; î n ­
s e m n e a z ă a socoti t u , c u m i n t e a t a , că a c e s t e o r â n d u i r i f u n d a m e n t a l e p r i n c a r e D u m ­
n e z e u c o n d i ţ i o n e a z ă v i a ţ a , n u s u n t l a î n ă l ţ i m e a c e r i n ţ e l o r t a l e , c ă D u m n e z e u c u o-
p e r a l u i , n u s'a p u t u t r i d i c a l a c e e a c e g â n d e ş t i t u . Şi î n s e m n e a z ă a s a b o t a v i a ţ a d e
D u m n e z e u l ă s a t ă . A r e f u z a h r a n a p e n t r u c ă o socoteşti î n m o d p r i n c i p i a l u n p ă c a t ,
p r i n u r m a r e a t e l ă s a să m o r i d e f o a m e , a c e a s t a e u n p ă o a t . P r e c u m a n u t e c ă s ă t o r i
( n u p e n t r u i d e a l u r i d e o s e b i t e ) , ci d i n d i s p r e ţ f a ţ ă d e c ă s ă t o r i e şi a p r o p o v ă d u i a c e s t e
i d e i , e i a r ă ş i u n p ă c a t , c u m a a r ă t a t B i s e r i c a p r i n c o n d a m n a r e a ereticilor, c a r i p r o ­
p a g a u astfel de idei.
E u n p ă c a t să fii p r o t i v n i c vieţii, b a e u n p ă c a t c h i a r i n d i f e r e n ţ a f a ţ ă d e a c e a ­
s t ă d a t o r i e . C r e ş t i n i s m u l s p r e d e o s e b i r e d e religiile h i n d u s e , e s t e r e l i g i a vieţii. T o a t ă
a c ţ i u n e a d u m n e z e i a s c ă d e m â n t u i r e a o m u l u i a r e s c o p u l să-1 s c a p e d e m o a r t e .
„ D u m n e z e u n u v o e ş t e m o a r t e a p ă c ă t o s u l u i , ci să se î n t o a r c ă şi să fie v i u " . M o a r t e a

concepţia Sfintei Scripturi. N u o viaţă înţeleasă platonic ca o n e m u r i r e a spiritului
p u r , î n l u m e a i d e i l o r e t e r n e , p l u t i n d d e t a ş a t şi p e d e a s u p r a l u m i i c o r p o r a l e . C o r p o ­
ralitatea e p e n t r u creştinism manifestarea necesară a puterii de viaţă a eului. Ceea­
ce n u se p o a t e e x t e r i o r i z a , c e e a c e e n e p u t i n c i o s f a ţ ă d e l u m e a e x t e r n ă , e s l a b , e n e ­
d e p l i n o a p u t e r e d e v i a ţ ă . C i n e a b d i c ă f a ţ ă d e m i ş c a r e a şi f r ă m â n t a r e a m a t e r i e i , re~
t r ă g â n d u - s e î n p l a n u l s u p r a s t e l a r a l c i n e ştie c ă r e i s p i r i t u a l i t ă ţ i i l u z o r i i , o f a c e d i n
n e p u t i n ţ ă . D u m n e z e u şi e u r i l e o m e n e ş t i , f ă c u t e d u p ă a s e m ă n a r e a sa, n u p o t r e n u n ţ a
l a s t ă p â n i r e a m a t e r i e i , l a m o d e l a r e a ei î n f o r m e l e v o i t e d e s p i r i t , c ă c i a l t f e l a r t r e b u i

d u p ă f o r m a a c t u a l ă , i s t o r i c ă , d e e x i s t e n ţ ă , d e o v i a ţ ă p e n t r u c a r e t r e b u e să n e p r e ­
g ă t i m n u a f i r m â n d - o p e c e a p ă m â n t e a s c ă , ci, d i m p o t r i v ă , j e r t f i n d - ô .

H r i s t o s . L ă s â n d la o p a r t e f a p t u l că j e r t f i r e a a c e a s t a n u f a c e nici ea, î n d e f i n i t i v ,
e x c e p ţ i e d e l à i n s t i n c t u l a f i r m ă r i i vieţii, î n î m p r e j u r ă r i l e n o r m a l e , c â n d n u se cere
în interesul credinţii, r e n u n ţ a r e a la viaţă, aşa t a m n e s a m , e considerată la D u m n e z e u
p ă c a t iar la oameni n e b u n i e sau laşitate.
C u a t â t m a i p u ţ i n r e p r o ş a b i l este a c e s t i n s t i n c t m a n i f e s t a t î n f a v o r u l u n u i
g r u p de indivizi, î n favorul naţiunii. El c a p ă t ă valoarea u n u i act altruist, a u n u i act
m o r a l . U n e o r i se o b i e c t e a z ă : a f i r m a r e a v i e ţ i i u n u i g r u p n a ţ i o n a l p r o p r i u , e î n orice
c a z u n p ă c a t î n t r u c â t e a î n s e m n e a z ă n e g a r e a v i e ţ i i a l t o r g r u p u r i n a ţ i o n a l e , s a u cel
p u ţ i n n e p ă s a r e a f a ţ ă d e s o a r t a lor. A m p u t e a r ă s p u n d e u ş o r r ă m â n â n d la c a z u l i n ­
d i v i d u l u i : d a c ă a c e a s t ă o b i e c ţ i u n e a r fi j u s t ă , a r î n s e m n a că a f i r m a r e a v i e ţ i i i n d i ­
v i d u a l e este u n p ă c a t , î n t r u c â t e a a r i m p l i c a n e g a r e a a l t o r v i e ţ i i n d i v i d u a l e s a u cel
p u ţ i n n e p ă s a r e a f a ţ ă d e e l e . A c e l a ş l u c r u s'ar p u t e a s p u n e şi d e s p r e g r i j a p ă r i n t e l u i

I n r e a l i t a t e a f i r m a r e a v i e ţ i i p r o p r i u l u i n e a m n u î n s e m n e a z ă eo i p s o n e g a r e a
a l t o r n e a m u r i , b a c h i a r n i c i d e s i n t e r e s a r e a d e s o a r t a lor. V i a ţ a o m e n e a s c ă se m i ş c ă
în c i c l u r i c a r e se c u p r i n d u n u l î n a l t u l , p l e c â n d d e l à cel m a i m i c , cel i n d i v i d u a l , şi
s f â r ş i n d ou cel m a i l a r g , c a r e c u p r i n d e o m e n i r e a î n t r e a g ă . P r e c u m g r i j a d e v i a ţ a
p r o p r i e i n d i v i d u a l ă n u te î m p i e d e c ă şi n u - ţ i r ă p e ş t e ocaziile d e a te î n g r i j i şi d e
v i a ţ a familiei, i a r a c e s t e d o u ă g r i j i îţi l a s ă d e s t u l ă p o s i b i l i t a t e s ă s l u j e ş t i şi n e a m u ­
lui, la fel a c e s t e t r e i c i c l u r i d e v i a ţ ă n u - ţ i v o r a b s o r b i a ş a d e t o t a l p r e o c u p ă r i l e şi
p u t e r i l e î n c â t să n u p o ţ i fi d e folos şi u m a n i t ă ţ i i .Nici u n u l d i n a c e s t e c e r c u r i n u
te p o a t e a n g a j a e x c l u s i v . A c e a s t a a r fi î n t r ' a d e v ă r c e v a şi p ă c ă t o s şi n e n a t u r a l .
A f i r m a r e a vieţii p r o p r i i n u implică necesar u r a faţă de alte persoane. E d r e p t
că d e m u l t e o r i a ş a s e m a n i f e s t ă . D a r a c e s t a e a d a u s u l p ă c a t u l u i l a ceeace-i este
vieţii e s e n ţ i a l î n veci, p r i n u r m a r e şi î n a i n t e d e p ă c a t şi î n v i a ţ a v i i t o a r e . S i l i n ţ a
noastră e vrednică de laudă când î m p u ţ i n ă m b u r u i a n a păcatului din jurul rădă­
cinii vieţii, n u c â n d s m u l g e m d i n t r ' o r â v n ă r ă u î n ţ e l e a s ă î n s ă ş i r ă d ă c i n a .
A t i t u d i n e a p o z i t i v ă f a ţ ă d e f a m i l i a p r o p r i e , i a r ă ş i n u i m p l i c ă î n n o ţ i u n e a ei
a t i t u d i n e a negativă faţă de alte familii.
M u n c a d e v o t a t ă î n s l u j b a n e a m u l u i n u î n s e a m n ă nici e a n u m a i d e c â t u r a î m ­
p o t r i v a a l t o r n e a m u r i şi l u p t a î m p o t r i v a lor.
P o ţ i să v r e i , c u t o a t ă d r a g o s t e a p e n t r u n e a m u l p r o p r i u , f e r i c i r e a şi li­
b e r a d e s v o l t a r e şi a c e l o r l a l t e n e a m u r i , b a c h i a r s ă le d a i d i n p r i s o s u l t ă u , p e n t r u c ă
a f i r m â n d s p i r i t u a l i t ă ţ i l e t u t u r o r , a f i r m i t o a t e f o r m e l e î n c a r e se a r a t ă m ă r i r e a şi
î n ţ e l e p c i u n e a l u i D u m n e z e u cel n e e p u i z a t î n p u t e r e a s a d e c r e a ţ i e şi d e i n v e n ţ i e . A
fi o r b şi n e s i m ţ i t o r p e n t r u f r u m u s e ţ i l e d e o s e b i t e ce le r e p r e z i n t ă n e a m u r i l e c a g r u ­
p u r i d i s t i n c t e şi a l u c r a p e n t r u ş t e r g e r e a a c e s t o r v a r i e t ă ţ i d e f r u m u s e ţ e s a u c h i a r
a asista nepăsător la o astfel de î n t r e p r i n d e r e ,însemnează a n u vedea, a n u l ă u d a
şi a d e p r e c i a o p e r a l u i D u m n e z e u .

 A r m a i r ă m â n e a însă u n rest de obiecţie: Naţionalismul e totuşi u n p ă c a t pen­
t r u c ă el te f a c e să n u i u b e ş t i p e t o a t ă l u m e a l a fel. O r i c â t d e n o b i l a r fi n a ţ i o n a l i s ­
m u l , el î n s e a m n ă t o t u ş i o i u b i r e m a i m a r e a n e a m u l u i p r o p r i u .
N o i î n t r e b ă m : Şi a p o i d a c ă i u b e ş t i p e t o a t ă l u m e a l a fel ? C e u r m ă r i p r a c t i c e
p o a t e să a i b ă această iubire egală a întregii l u m i ? Să slujeşti t u t u r o r egal de m u l t ?
D a r p e n t r u a c e a s t a a r t r e b u i să t e p r e u m b l i c o n t i n u u p e t o t g l o b u l p ă m â n t e s c , să-i
s l u j e ş t i f i e c ă r u i a , c o n t i n u u g r ă b i t că n u v e i a j u n g e l a toţi. A i p u t e a r e a l i z a c e v a se­
rios m ă c a r î n t r ' u n s i n g u r loc , s a u p e n t r u o s i n g u r ă p e r s o a n ă ? V i a ţ a î n t r e a g ă a r fi
o dezordine de neînchipuit. O m u l este o fiinţă cu p u t e r i limitate, oricât d e infinită
i-ar fi d r a g o s t e a d e o a m e n i .
E f e c t e l e p r a c t i c e ale d r a g o s t e i l u i , m a n i f e s t ă r i l e ei î n f a p t ă — c u v â n t , a j u t o r
m a t e r i a l — n u p o t fi d e c â t e x t r e m d e r e d u s e . S ă se d u c ă a t u n c i f i e c a r e i n s la a l t n e a m
c u m i c a l u i p u t e r e d e a j u t o r şi să fie d e folos a c o l o , c a să s c a p e d e p ă c a t u l n a ţ i o ­
n a l i s m u l u i ? H a o s u l n ' a r fi m a i m i c c a î n c a z u l c e l ă l a l t , a b s t r ă g â n d d e s f o r ţ ă r i l e
i n u t i l e p e c a r i a r t r e b u i să le f a c ă f i e c a r e p â n ă să se a c l i m a t i z e z e î n n o u l loc.
E s t e e v i d e n t c ă o r â n d u i a l ă s u p e r i o a r ă a ş e a z ă p e f i e c a r e o m c u m i c i l e l u i ser­
vicii ce le p o a t e a d u c e , î n c a d r u l u n o r c i c l u r i r e s t r â n s e f a ţ ă d e c a r e a r e să-şi a c t u a ­
lizeze t o a t ă d r a g o s t e a d e c a r e e capabili f a ţ ă d e o a m e n i .
I u b i n d î n d u h t o a t ă o m e n i r e a Ia fel, p r a c t i c el e s t e silit d e o r â n d u i r e a s u p e r i ­
o a r ă a l u c r u r i l o r , să-şi a r a t e d r a g o s t e a f a ţ ă d e cei a p r o p i a ţ i . I n p e r s o a n a lor i u b e ş t i
o m e n i r e a şi p e D u m n e z e u . C i n e n u i u b e ş t e p e a p r o p i a ţ i , p e cei ca,re-i v e d e , d i n m o ­
t i v că a c e s t a - i l u c r u egoist şi s p u n e că t â n j e ş t e d u p ă cei d e d e p a r t e c a să-i i u b e a s c ă ,
a c e l a n u a r e n i c i o i u b i r e . C i n e a r e i u b i r e , i u b e ş t e p e cei d i n j u r u l s ă u u i t â n d d e
grija iubirii universale. Ciclurile acestea organice în care-i aşezat omul sunt orân­
d u i r i l e d u m n e z e e ş t i c a r i f a c p o s i b i l ă m e n ţ i n e r e a v i e ţ i i . D a r d e s p r e ele p u ţ i n m a i
încolo.
E d r e p t că u n e o r i se i v e s c î m p r e j u r ă r i c â n d , c u t o a t ă v o i n ţ a d e a n u - ţ i i n t e r ­
p r e t a naţionalismul ca pornire î m p o t r i v a neamurilor străine, ajungi î m p r e u n ă cu
n e a m u l t ă u î n c o n f l i c t e c u a l t e n e a m u r i şi c h i a r l a r ă s b o i u . D a r a t â t t i m p c â t oşti
în funcţia p u r ă de legitimă a p ă r a r e a n e a m u l u i t ă u împotriva unor n e a m u r i acapa­
r a t o a r e , n u p u t e m s p u n e că p ă c ă t u e ş t i . S f â n t a S c r i p t u r ă î ţ i cere, e a d e v ă r a t , ca c e ­
l u i a ce t e l o v e ş t e p e o p a r t e a o b r a z u l u i s ă - i o f e r i şi c e a l a l t ă p a r t e , i a r c e l u i ce-ţi i a
h a i n a să-i d a i şi c ă m a ş a . D a r t o t S f â n t a S r i p t u r ă n e s p u n e că s t a t u l p o a r t ă s a b i e
şi o p o a r t ă î n c a l i t a t e d e „ s l u j i t o r a l l u i D u m n e z e u s p r e m â n i e c e l u i ce f a c e r ă u " ,
p e n t r u m e n ţ i n e r e a r â n d u e l i i p ă m â n t e ş t i p r i n f o r ţ ă a t â t a v r e m e c â t , n e f i i n d toţi
o a m e n i f ă r ă p ă c a t , n u se p o a t e ţ i n e r â n d u i a l ă d e b u n ă v o i e . Gonfllicte şi r ă s b o a i e a u
fost şi c â n d n u e r a a t â t d e c l a r ă c o n ş t i i n ţ a n a ţ i o n a l ă . A s t ă z i s t a t e l e s u n t a p r o a p e
t o a t e şi a p r o a p e d e p l i n n a ţ i o n a l e . O n a ţ i u n e p o a r t ă r ă s b o i u î m p o t r i v a a l t e i a î n t r u ­
c â t e o r g a n i z a t ă oa s t a t . I a r m e m b r u l n a ţ i u n i i e î n d a t o r a t d e v o i a l u i D u m n e z e u c a
a t u n c i c â n d e o s t a ş al s t a t u l u i să l u p t e , o r i c â t a c e i a ş i voie a l u i D u m n e z e u îi c e r e o
atitudine exact contrară când e simplu particular.

g a ş şi să n u faci n i m i c p e n t r u s a l v a r e a v i c t i m e i ? N u - ţ i c e r e i u b i r e a m a i d e g r a b ă
să p u i m â n a p e cell c a r e - i d e a s u p r a să-1 a r u n c i l a o p a r t e şi să r i d i c i p e cel p r ă ­
b u ş i t ? E e g o i s m a c e s t a ? A r fi e g o i s m cel m u l t c â n d a i fi n u m a i t u p e r s o n a l î n

g u r ă î m p r e j u r a r e c â n d î ţ i p o ţ i î n d e m n a î n t r e g u l n e a m să p r i m e a s c ă m o a r t e a :

vieţii. E p ă c a t u l c a r e d e s f i g u r e a z ă a c e s t i n s t i n c t .
I n teologia g e r m a n ă a c t u a l ă s'a c r e a t t e r m e n u l „ G o t t e s E r h a l t u n g s o r d n u n -
gen", orânduirile dumnezeeşti de conservare a lumii. El e x p r i m ă foarte potrivit
fiinţa a c e s t o r legi a l e vieţii, o a r e c o n s e r v ă l u m e a î m p o t r i v a p u t e r i l o r d i s t r u g ă ­
toare ale răului.
N u p u t e m a f i r m a s i g u r d a c ă a c e s t e o r â n d u i r i a u e x i s t a t şi î n a i n t e d e c ă ­
d e r e a î n p ă c a t . C i n e p o a t e r e f a c e , m ă c a r î n î n c h i p u i r e , t a b l o u l vieţii d e p l i n e
d i n a i n t e d e c ă d e r e a î n p ă c a t , s a u c u m a r fi r ă m a s f ă r ă c ă d e r e a î n p ă c a t ? Sigut.
e că a t i t u d i n e a p o z i t i v ă f a ţ ă d e v i a ţ ă , a f i r m a r e a vieţii, a e x i s t a t , î n s ă f ă r ă a d a u ­
s u r i l e d e e g o i s m , d e e x c l u s i v i t a t e , v e n i t e p r i n p ă c a t . Şi a e x i s t a t c ă s ă t o r i a . F o a r t e
p r o b a b i l că s'ar fi n ă s c u t şi n e a m u r i l e , ca v a r i e t ă ţ i ale f r u m u s e ţ i i s p i r i t u a l e i n ­
finite, d a r f ă r ă s t r a t u r i l e d e o p a c i t a t e ale l i m b i l o r d e o s e b i t e , a ş e z a t e î n t r e n e a ­
m u r i î n u r m a p ă c a t u l u i , la t u m u l B a b e l . A e x i s t a t h r a n a c a l e g ă t u r ă v i e a o m u -

triva răului. D a r acestea s u n t probabilităţi.
C e i a ce t r e b u e r e m a r c a t este că î n s t a r e a a c t u a l ă t o a t e a c e s t e o r â n d u i r i s u n t
datorii i m p u s e n o u ă de D u m n e z e u . N u ca p ă c a t e . C ă c i ceeace-i inevitabil n u p o a t e
fi p ă c a t , c h i a r d a c ă n i s ' a r fi i m p u s n u m a i p e n t r u s t a r e a d e c ă d e r e î n p ă c a t . A l t ­
fel a r î n s e m n a că D u m n e z e u n e sileşte să p ă c ă t u i m . F a p t e l e p ă c ă t o a s e n i le i n ­
t e r z i c e D u m n e z e u şi l e p u t e m e v i t a , d a r p e a c e s t e a n u , o r i c â t l e - a r c o n f u n d a d.

e p ă c a t î n s i n e , d a r p o a t e fi î n t r e b u i n ţ a t p ă c ă t o s .
T o a t e o r â n d u i e l i l e şi f a p t e l e n a t u r a l e şi n e c e s a r e p o t fi î m p l i n i t e ou g â n d
b u n , c u i n i m ă c u r a t ă . I n itoate p u t e m s ă n e c o m p o r t ă m c u s u f l e t l e g a t d e D u m ­
n e z e u . D a r t o a t e p o t fi î m p l i n i t e c u i n t e n ţ i e r e a , a b u z i v , p o r n i ţ i î m p o t r i v a l u i
D u m n e z e u . G â n d u l ee-i p u n e m î n f a p t e , a c e s t a e s t e i m p o r t a n t : „ D e c i o r i d e m â n ­
c a ţ i , ori d e b e ţ i , o r i a l t c e v a d e f a c e ţ i , t o a t e s p r e s l a v a l u i . D u m n e z e u s ă le
f a c e ţ i " . (Cor. I. 10 — 31).
N u n e m â n t u i m f u g i n d d e cele n a t u r a l e , p l u t i n d î n v ă z d u h u l i n a c ţ i u n i i , s a u
a l o r e d i n ţ i i şi d r a g o s t e i t e o r e t i c e , e c u m e n i c e . C i f ă p t u i n d c e e a ce n e i m p u n e l o c u l şi
t i m p u l şi a ş e z a r e a n o a s t r ă î n c i c l u r i l e d e v i a ţ ă u n d e n e - a d e s t i n a t cel d e s u s . N u n e

D a r a t u n c i n u se m â n t u i e s c m i l i o a n e l e d e p l u g a r i c a r e - ş i m u n c e s c o g o r u l c u s u ­

D . N a e I o n e s c u î m p ă r t ă ş e ş t e c u d. R a d u D r a g n e a i d e i a că t r ă i r e a î n c i c l u ­

f a t a l i s m şi u n p e s i m i s m a b s o l u t . O r t o d o x i a î n s ă ş i f i i n d şi e a u n c i c l u l i m i t a t , o s p i ­
ritualitate ce n u depăşeşte spiritualitatea n e a m u l u i , n u ne p o a t e nici ea m â n t u i .
D a r a t u n c i d e u n d e ş t i m c ă n e v o m m â n t u i m ă c a r î n v e a c u l ce v a s ă v i e ? D u p ă
care criterii trăind, p u t e m n ă d ă j d u i m â n t u i r e a î n veacul ce va să vie? P e n t r u oare
m o t i v e u n i i s e v o r m â n t u i şi a l ţ i i n u ? L a ce m a i e b u n ă a t u n c i o r t o d o x i a ? P e n t r u
o f u n c ţ i e p u r n a ţ i o n a l p ă m â n t e a s c ă ? G â n d i r e a d - l u i N a e I o n e s c u , o r c â t s'ar p ă r e a
altfel, e t o t a l n e c r e ş t i n ă . E a î n d e a m n ă l a cel m a i d e p l i n i n d i f e r e n t i s m m o r a l . C e l
p u ţ i n d a c ă a r s u s ţ i n e că m â n t u i r e a o v o m o b ţ i n e î n b a z a t r ă i r i i n o a s t r e î n g r a n i ­
ţ e l e o n t o l o g i c e ce n i lena i m p u s d e s t i n u l . A m şti c e v a , a m a v e a u n c r i t e r i u d e ori-

r o m â n e s c o r i c e s c r u p u l , orice p r e o c u p a r e d e d i s c e r n ă m â n t m o r a l .
A d e v ă r u l este că n e m â n t u i m p r i n f a p t e (nu p r i n c u l t u r ă e c u m e n i c ă ! ) I a r
f a p t e l e s u n t cele p e c a r e n i le d e t e r m i n ă l o c u l , t i m p u l î n c a r e t r ă i m şi c o n s t i ­
tuţia noastră naturală.
E n e c e s a r ă î n s ă o d i s t i n c ţ i e . N u f a p t e l e goale n e m â n t u i e s c , ci î n t r u c â t s u n t
f ă c u t e c u c r e d i n ţ ă (care î n s ă f ă r ă f a p t e e m o a r t ă ) . A c e l e a ş i f a p t e , f ă r ă c r e d i n ţ ă ,
sau î m p o t r i v a credinţii, m a u nici o valoare p e n t r u m â n t u i r e , s a u s u n t chiar p ă ­

gubitoare mântuirii. , } ' ' •
N e m â n t u i m m u n c i n d l a p l u g , î n f a b r i c ă , l a m a s a d e scris, î n g r i j i n d d e copii,
s l u j i n d n e a m u l u i şi -statului, s i l i n d u - n e s ă n e c u l t i v ă m m i n t e a şi să n e î n t r e ţ i n e m
viaţa. Insă toate acestea i ă c â n d u - l e cu credinţă. Săvârşindu-le fără de credinţă,
a n i m a l i c ( p u r biologic!) s a u d i a b o l i c , t o a t e a c e s t e a n e p i e r d .
E x i s t ă p r i n u r m a r e n a ţ i o n a l i s m şi n a ţ i o n a l i s m . E x i s t ă u n n a ţ i o n a l i s m c a r e
p o a t e fi o şi m a i g r e a c ă d e r e î n p ă c a t . D a r e x i s t ă şi u n n a ţ i o n a l i s m p e c a r e p r a c -
t i c â n d u - 1 n u n e p i e r d e m m â n t u i r e a , c h i a r d a c ă n u el p r o p r i u zis n e m â n t u e ş t e , ci
c r e d i n ţ a , s p i r i t u l c r e ş t i n c u c a r e îl i n f u z ă m .
N a ţ i o n a l i s m u l , î n s i n e l u a t , n i c i n u m â n t u i e nici n u p i e r d e . D a r î n p r a c t i c ă
orice n a ţ i o n a l i s m s a u m â n t u i e s a u p i e r d e , d u p ă c u m este s a u n u este s t r ă b ă t u t d e
credinţa creştină.
O r t o d o x i a n u este u n sector a l vieţii, d e t a ş a t d e t o a t e f a p t e l e şi c o n d i ţ i i l e n a ­
t u r a l e ale o m u l u i . E a n u este n u m a i m e r s la B i s e r i c ă , s a u m u m a i c ă r t u r ă r i e u n i v e r ­
salistă, s a u s i s t e m d e sfere c r i s t a l i n e p l u t i n d p e d e a s u p r a v a l u r i l o r vieţii, n e a t i n s
d e ele şi n e i n i e r v e n i n d î n ele. E a este f o r ţ ă a m e s t e c a t ă î n t o t a l i t a t e a f a p t e l o r şi si­
t u a ţ i i l o r o m e n e ş t i , m â n t u i n d p e o m n u î n t r u c â t îl s c o a t e d i n ele, ci î n t r u c â t l u ­
c r e a z ă î n ele d u p ă d u h u l ei. N u n e a m u l a c o p e r e s e c t o r u l o r t o d o x i e c a p e c e v a
p a r t i c u l a r , ci o r t o d o x i a cea u n i v e r s a l ă a c o p e r e î n t r e g p e f i e c a r e n e a m c a r e - i a d e r ă .
