Four organisations win Europe’s most prestigious Award for Business Excellence
Brussels, 8 November 2006 – The winners of the EFQM Excellence Award were announced last night during the EFQM Forum
Gala Dinner celebration in Budapest, Hungary. Over 700 senior executives and business leaders from 45 countries witnessed
the presentation of the Award by Ferenc Gyurcsány, Prime Minister of Hungary, to four organisations: BMW Group Chassis
and Driveline Systems Production, TNT Express GmbH, Grundfos A/S and in the public sector, St. Mary’s College
Londonderry. The EFQM Excellence Award recognises industry leaders with an undisputable track record of progress and
results for both financial and non financial performance. The Award, which is given to Europe’s best performing companies
and not-for-profit organisations, is Europe’s most prestigious award for organisational Excellence.
This year’s EFQM Forum focused on global challenges for European competitiveness. Prominent issues such as innovation,
knowledge, creativity and agility were key themes presented by top leaders and experts during the two-day event.
Mr. José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, recently addressed the need to unlock
Europe’s growth potential in stating that “Globalisation is accelerating. Competition is intensifying.
Technological change is affecting the way business works.” At another event, he went on to emphasised
that “We need innovation to make Europe competitive on the global scene. And we need a European
space for innovation in which excellence can thrive.”.
Upon hearing the breaking news of the EFQM Excellence Award, Mr. Barroso congratulates these
organisations. “The winners of the EFQM Excellence Award stand out as leaders of Excellence. They
have demonstrated world-class performance that is necessary to stimulate European competitiveness. If
we are to face up to the challenges of growing global competition, we need to recognise our industry
leaders and use them as role models to help inspire others.”
EFQM Excellence Award applicants undergo a full assessment based on an internationally recognised management
framework. This assessment confirms the outstanding performance of these leaders and their ability to demonstrate the
underlying value systems and key drivers enabling their achievements. Award winners have all fully embedded the principles
of business excellence across their entire organisation and they have succeeded in transforming these principles into tangible
results.
In addition to the EFQM Excellence Award, EFQM awards specific prizes to organisations that demonstrate superior
performance and which excel within a specific area of business excellence.
