Câteva dintre cele mai importante verbe neregulate din engleză, grupate după
sonoritate:

În ultima categorie am pus de-a valma verbe de învăţat pur şi simplu, care nu seamănă cu
alte verbe, poate cel mai greu de memorat, dar extrem de importante, unele chiar vitale
pentru a vorbi engleza (to be, to do, to go etc.). La treaba!

to be [bi] - was [wəz] / were [wər] - been [bi:n] = a fi

I am = eu sunt I was = eu am fost
you are = tu eşti you were = tu ai fost
he is = el este he was = el a fost
she is = ea este she was = ea a fost
it is = (el, ea) este it was = (el, ea) a fost
we are = noi suntem we were = noi am fost
you are = voi sunteţi you were = voi aţi fost
they are = ei, ele sunt they were = ei, ele au fost
I have been very busy this month. = Am fost foarte ocupat(ă) luna asta.
to do [du] - did [did] - done [dan] = a face (abstract)
I do this. = Eu fac asta.
I do everything. = Eu fac totul.
I do what I want. = Fac ce vreau.
I do what you tell me. = Fac ce îmi spui.
I did this. = (Eu) am făcut asta.
I did what you told me. = Am făcut ce mi-ai spus.
It’s done! = Gata! E făcută treaba!
to go [gəu] - went [went] - gone [g‫פ‬n] = a merge, a se duce
to go to at = a merge la
to come to at = a veni la
I go to the office every day. = Mă duc la birou / serviciu în fiecare zi.
I went to the airport to pick him up. = M-am dus la aeroport ca să-l iau (cu maşina).
Where is John? He’s gone! = Unde e John? E plecat / e dus / nu e aici.
to see [si:] - saw [s‫פ‬:] - seen [si:n] = a vedea
See you tomorrow! = Ne vedem mâine! Pe mâine! Pa!
I see…= aha, înţeleg…
yes… all right… ahm… ok… yeah = da… în regulă… ăăă… ok…aha…
I saw this movie last week. = Am văzut filmul ăsta luna trecută.
I saw it. = L-am văzut.
I saw John two hours ago. = L-am văzut pe John acum două ore.
John was seen at the mall. = John a fost văzut la mall.
CAN [kæn] - could [kud] / was/were able to - been able to [bi:n ‘eibəl tu]= a putea, a fi în stare
Can you help me? = Poţi să mă ajuţi?
I can’t speak German. = Nu pot vorbi germană.
How could you do this? = Cum ai putut face asta? Cum ai putut să faci aşa ceva?!
I couldn’t tell him this. = Nu am putut / nu am avut puterea să îi spun asta.
MAY [mei] - was/were allowed to [wəz/wər ə’laud tu] - been allowed to [bi:n ə’laud tu] = a (se)
putea, a fi lăsat să, a avea voie să
May I help you? = Îmi permiteţi să vă ajut?
May I open the window? = Am voie / pot să deschid fereastra?

am terminat treaba.
MUST [mast] - had to [hæd tu] - had to [hæd tu] = a trebui
You must do this. = Trebuie să faci asta.
You must understand. = Trebuie să înţelegi.
I had to go there. = A trebuit să mă duc acolo.
to hear [‘hiər] - heard [hərd] - heard [hərd] = a auzi
I can’t hear you. Can you speak lounder, please? = Nu te aud. Poţi să vorbeşti mai tare, te rog?
I heard some bad news… = Am aflat / am auzit nişte veşti proaste…
The noise was heard by all the people. = Zgomotul a fost auzit de toţi oamenii.
to hold [həuld] - held [held] - held [held] = a ţine, a îmbrăţişa
Hold me (in your arms)! = Ia-mă în braţe!
Hold on… = Ia stai… Stai puţin… Stai aşa…
We will hold the meeting in the conference room. = Vom ţine şedinţa în sala de conferinţe.
She held my hand tight during the flight. = Ea m-a ţinut strâns de mână în timpul zborului.
The meeting was held in the conference room. = Şedinţa a fost ţinută
The baby was held in her mother’s arms during the whole trip. = Bebeluşul a fost ţinut în braţe de mama sa
de-a lungul întregii călătorii.
to lie [lai] - lay [lei] - lain [lein] = a sta întins, a zăcea
He is very lazy, he lies in bed all day. = El e foarte leneş, stă (întins) în pat toată ziua.
If you feel dizzy, lie down on the sofa! = Dacă te simţi ameţit(ă), întinde-te pe canapea.
The river lies 30 km to the south. = Râul se întinde 30 de km spre sud.
to run [ran] - ran [ræn] - run [ran] = a alerga, a fugi, a
conduce
How fast can you run? = Cât de repede poţi să alergi?
She runs the PR department. = Ea conduce departamentul de Relaţii Publice.
He ran the marathon two years ago. = El a alergat la maraton acum doi ani.
This division is run by Mr. Jones. = Divizia asta este condusă de dl Jones.
to say [sei] - said [sed] - said [sed] = a spune, a zice
Excuse me? What did you say? = Poftim? Ce ai spus?
What did you just say to me?! (replica preferată a lui Harvey Spector, personajul principal din serialul “Suits”)
= Ce-ai spus? Ce (tocmai) ai avut îndrăzneala să îmi spui? Ce (mi-)ai zis adineauri?
He said “hello”, but she didn’t say anything. = El a salutat, dar ea nu a zis nimic.
after all is said and done / when all is said and done = după ce s-a spus totul / când nu mai e nimic de zis
to shine [∫ain] - shone [∫əun] - shone [∫əun] = a străluci
The sun is shining in the sky. = Soarele străluceşte pe cer.
The sun shone all day yesterday and we all got tanned. = Soarele a strălucit ieri toată ziua şi ne-am bronzat
toţi.
to slide [slaid] - slid [slid] - slid [slid] = a aluneca
Be careful not to slide on the slippery floor! = Ai grijă să nu aluneci pe podeaua alunecoasă!
wet floor = podea udă
slippery floor = podea alunecoasă
He slid on the ice and fell. = El a alunecat pe gheaţă şi a căzut.
